This study is to explore the active ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine rhubarb with antiproliferative activity on hypertrophic scar fibroblasts (HSF). Rhubarb was extracted with Soxhlet extraction method by different polar solvents. MTS method was used to screen rhubarb solvent extracts (25 microg x mL(-1)) with anti-proliferative activity on HSF, and flow cytometry was used to detect their influences on cell cycle. Then, the active ingredients were analyzed by HPLC. The components with high activity were identified by UPLC-Q/TOF and verified by HE staining. The results showed that the ethyl acetate extract of rhubarb had higher anti-proliferative activity (P < 0.01), increased significantly the proportion of cells in G0/G1 phase (P < 0.01), and reduced the proliferation index (PI) (P < 0.01). The main active ingredients were anthraquinones. The results of confirming experiment showed that emodin, rhein and gallic acid could inhibit cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner. In conclusion, the ethyl acetate extract of rhubarb showed anti-proliferative activity on HSF, and the anti-proliferative ingredients might be anthraquinones.

This paper gave a brief introduction of the effect of Solanum nigrum on anti-cancer. The experimental results showed that the total alkaloid isolated from S. nigrum interfered structure and function of tumor cell membrane, disturbed the synthesis of DNA and RNA, changed the cell cycle distribution, so that total alkaloids could play in inhibabition to tumor cells, while the glycoprotein (150 x 10(3)) isolated from S. nigrum might have shown anti-cancer abilities by blocking the anti-apoptotic pathway of NF-kappaB, activating caspase cascades reaction and increasing the production of nitric oxide.

OBJECTIVETo study pharmacological effects of PEC (the oral liquid which consists of Panax quinquefolium, Epimedium brevicornum, Schisandra chinensis Bail and Cervus eplaphus) on mice.
METHODExperiments were carried out through swimming test, step-through, spontaneous activity and sleeping time.
RESULTWhen 5-10 mL x kg(-1) of PEC was given orally for 7 days, it could prolong swimming duration of mice in water tank, and increase the tolerant ability against oxygen-deficiency. PEC could also improve cognitive-deficiency induced by taking off sleep with force in mice after given orally for 7 days. The PEC could increase the spontaneous activity in mice, antagonize the inhabitation induced by Valium, and shorten the sleeping time caused by sodium pentobarbital.
CONCLUSIONPEC has strong potential neuro-pharmacological activities such as anti-fatigue, improving cognitive-deficiency in mice.

Objective To determine the impact of uric acid changes on kidney function in middle-aged and elderly women with normal renal function. Methods Serum uric acid and estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR) were studied by prospective cohort analysis in 1152 middle-aged and elderly Dalian women with serum uric acid<7 mg/dl, estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)≥90 ml·min-1·(1.73 m2)-1, and age>45 years old. Results The analysis of variance (ANOVA) of clinical indices between baseline and follow-up data showed that an eGFR was decreased after three years in both middle-aged and elderly women even with normal serum uric acid.Compared with those in the lowest guartile subgroup, a significant drop of eGFR to less than 90 ml·min-1·(1.73 m2)-1 was seen in those with the highest guartile of baseline serum uric acid group (OR=1.707, 95%CI 1.192-2.443, P=0.003).Furthermore, there were positive correlations between changes in the levels of serum uric acid and eGFR, and linear regression analysis showed that, as the change level of serum uric acid increased, the change level of eGFR declined(β=1.562, 95%CI 1.050-2.075, P<0.01], and the changing degree of uric acid increase is independent risk factors refor eGFR reductions. Conclusion Reduction in eGFR level is inversely related to serum uric acid in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. However, our study showed that, women with serum uric acid level ranging from normal, slight increase, and relatively high levels, the increasing degrees of uric acid are independent risk factors responsible for the changing degree of eGFR reduction.

OBJECTIVE:
To identify potential mutations of the CLS gene in a Chinese pedigree affected with Coffin-Lowry syndrome.
METHODS:
Whole exome sequencing was applied to detect potential mutation in the proband, and the result was verified by Sanger sequencing.
RESULTS:
The proband was found to carry a c.966_967delAA (p.Arg323Thr fs*11) deletional mutation in the RPS6KA3 gene. The same mutation was also found in his mother.
CONCLUSION
The c.966_967delAA (p.Arg323Thr fs*11) deletional mutation of the RPS6KA3 gene probably underlies the disorder in this pedigree.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the relationship between the -629C/A polymorphism in the promoter region of the CETP gene, serum Levels, lipid metabolism, and coronary heart disease (CHD) among Tianjin Han Chinese population.
METHODSA hospital-based case-control study was conducted in Tianjin Chest Hospital from 2010 October to 2011 October. The subjects underwent angiography were divided into a case group (n = 429) and a control group (n = 275). The CETP gene promoter polymorphism at position -629 was determined by restricted fragment length polymorphism using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR-RFLP) method. The serum CETP levels was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method.
RESULTS(1)The lower frequency of -629A allele in Tianjin Han Chinese population was 0.408, significantly lower than that in other domestic and foreign populations (0.479-0.701, P < 0.05). (2) Variant AA genotype showed reduced CETP levels(P > 0.05) and higher HDL-C levels (P < 0.05), compared to wild CC genotype. (3) Although there was a negative trend correlation between serum CETP and HDL-C levels, it did not reach statistical significance(P > 0.05). (4)There were significant differences in the frequencies of CETP gene -629 genotype and allele between the two groups (P < 0.001),carries with CA/AA genotype and A allele showed higher risk of CHD, OR (95%CI) values were 4.627 (3.163-6.769), 8.779 (4.799-16.059) and 3.173 (2.453-4.104) respectively. There was no relationship between CETP-629C/A polymorphism and coronary artery stenosis degree(χ(2) = 3.588, P = 0.166).
CONCLUSIONThe frequencies of CETP gene -629 genotype and allele in the Tianjin Han Chinese population was significantly different from that in Other domestic and foreign populations. Variant AA genotype, which showed reduced CETP levels and higher HDL-C levels, is paradoxically associated with increased risk of CHD. Thus, CETP gene variation may affect coronary risk apart from the level of HDL-C.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of the continuous light force to the donor teeth on the periodontal healing after transplantation.
METHODSThirty-two maxillary and mandibular incisors in four 10-month-old male Beagle dogs were autotransplanted. The pulps were removed in all teeth. The teeth were divided into four groups, one control and three experimental groups. In control group (group 1), the teeth were unloaded. In the other three experimental groups, continuous force (0.49 N) was applied in the 1st (group 2), 2nd (group 3) and 4th (group 4) week, respectively. The dogs were sacrificed in the 8th week. The tissue blocks were demineralized and sectioned perpendicular to the long axis of the teeth. The histological analysis was made.
RESULTSHistomophometric analysis revealed a significantly lower occurrence of replacement root resorption in the group 3 (2.1%) than in the control group (12.5%, P < 0.05). The significant lower incidence of replacement root resorption, and a higher surface and inflammatory root resorption were found in group 2 (6.3% and 68.8%) than in the control group (12.5% and 41.7%, P < 0.05). No significant difference was found between group 4 and control group (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSThe orthodontic force promoted the regeneration of the periodontal ligament and prevented dentoalveolar ankylosis, whereas excessive initial force might cause root and bone resorption.
