Objective To search for the normal value and developmental regular rule of motor norve conduction in children.Methods One hundred and fourty-nine children aged from 0 to 14 years old were divided into 7 groups in accordance with age. There were 19 pecrsons aged from 20 to 35 years old in adult group. The motor nerve conduction function of median nerve, ulnar perve, tibial nerve and peroneal nerve of every suhject was determined by nerve evoked potential meter.Results The terminal latency of action potential of every nerve is decreased along with growing up of age before 6 years old and increased after 6 years old. The conduction velocity of ulnar nerve is the fastest,then the peroneal nerve and median nerve, that of tibial nerve is the slowest. Median nerve development quicken after 3 months of birth and approch ulnar nerve at the time of 3 years old. Tibial nerye get into fast development period from 3 months to 1 years old and catch up peroneal nerve. The conduction velocity of every nerve extend to adult level in th period of 3~6 years old.Conclusion The every parameler of nervous conduction has a great difference of age in the period of child,particularly in that of infancy. therefore, the normal values should be set up in accordance with proper age groups. This study shows that it's suitable to divide groups in accordance with new-born, 3 and 6 months, 1, 3 and 6 years old. Adult criterion should be used in the children dbove 6 years old.

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound miniature probe(UMP)examination in tumor invasion(T staging) and local lymphatic node metastasis(N staging) for colorectal carcinoma. Methods Preoperative UMP examinations(12 MHz) were performed on 53 patients with colorectal carcinoma undergoing surgeries.The diagnosis accuracy of UMP examination in T and N staging was determined by comparison of the results of operation exploration and histopathologic findings. Results The accuracy in T staging for colorectal carcinoma was 86% with UMP examination,and that for early stage colorectal carcinoma was 100%.The accuracy,sensitivity and specificity in N staging for colorectal carcinoma were 81%,77%,and 84%,respectively with UMP examination. Conclusion UMP examination works well in determining T stage of colorectal carcinoma,especially for early stage colorectal carcinoma and those with tumor stenosis.

AIM:To observe the effect of captopril on the genesis and development of gastric cancer , and to explore its clinical treatment feasibility for gastric cancer .METHODS:The human gastric cancer cell line AGS was used to establish a tumor model in nude mice , and the model mice were randomly divided into 3 groups: positive control ( 5-fluorouracil) group, normal control (saline) group and experimental (captopril) group.After intraperitoneal injection or intragastric administration of the drugs , the tumor growth curve was determined , and the tumor tissues were also sampled to detect the expression of Ki-67, STAT3, Bax and Bcl-2 by real-time quantitative PCR and immunohistochemistry .The apop-tosis was detected by TUNEL +DAPI staining .RESULTS: The tumor growth curve showed that the tumor model in the nude mice was successfully established .The tumor volumes among groups showed significantly different after 14 d growth. The increase in the tumor volume in normal control group was significantly faster than that in the other two groups , and that in positive control group was the slowest .The expression of Bax in captopril group increased , and the expression of STAT3, Ki-67 and Bcl-2 was reduced as compared with normal control group and positive control group .Compared with normal con-trol group, the apoptotic rate increased significantly , and the protein expression of p-STAT3 and STAT3 decreased obviously in positive control group and captopril group .CONCLUSION:With better feasibility , angiotensin-converting enzyme in-hibitor captopril has a significant effect on treating gastric cancer in the AGS nude mouse model by regulating the expression of STAT3, Bax, Bcl-2 and Ki-67 to accelerate the apoptosis of cancer cells , thus inhibiting tumor growth .

Objective To investigate the level of follicular fluid NO, VEGF and ET-1 in assessing IVF-ET outcome. Methods Totally 131 patients undergoing IVF-ET cycles were recruited. The level of follicular fluid NO was measured by chromatometry. The follicular fluid VEGF and ET-1 were measured by ELISA. Transvaginal ultrasound was performed on human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) injection day to determine ovarian volume and antral follicle count. Results The pregnancy rate was 37.40% (49/131). There were significantly increased level of follicular fluid NO, VEGF and decreased level of follicular fluid ET-1 in the pregnant group than those in the non-pregnant group (P<0.05). Total ovarian volume and antral follicle count on HCG injection day were significantly higher in the pregnant group than those in the non-pregnant group (P<0.05). The levels of follicular fluid NO and VEGF had positive correlations with the total ovarian volume and antral follicle count. However, the level of follicular fluid ET-1 had a negative correlation with the total ovarian volume and antral follicle count. Conclusions The high level of NO, VEGF and low level of ET-1 in follicular fluid are good predictors of ovarian blood flow and ovarian response in IVF-ET.

A rapid LAMP detection method with primers designed on genus-specific region identified in the gyrA gene was established in this assay. All four Campylobacter jejuni from different sources were detected positive and fourteen non Campylobacter bacteria were negative, which shows excellent specificity of the primers. Compared with plate count and PCR method, the LAMP method and the PCR method had equal sensitivity, which were three orders of magnitude higher than plate count. In this assay, we also found out that the treatment of DNase could reduce the dead bacteria DNA effectively. The LAMP detection on chicken indicated relatively good result on detection of Campylobacter jejuni combining with treatment of DNase.

The most toxic DNA damage is DNA double strand breaks (DSBs), which are mainly repaired by non-homologous end joining (NHEJ). DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK) belongs to phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase-related protein kinase family (PIKK) and plays a key role in NHEJ. DNA-PK is overexpressed in a variety of cancer cells and is related to the occurrence, development and drug resistance of malignant tumors. In this article, the representative DNA-PK inhibitors with anticancer effects are reviewed, in order to provide a reference to discovery novel DNA-PK inhibitors.

OBJECTIVETo investigate apoptosis-inducing effect and its mechanisms of HY-1, a carbazole alkaloid, on human erythroleukemia K562 cells.

METHODSCell proliferation was detected by sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay after treated with HY-1 at indicated doses. Cell cycle analysis was performed by flow cytometry, mitochondria membrane voltage change was assessed by rhodamine 123 staining, annexin V-PI apoptosis detecting kit and DNA agarose gel electrophoresis were used to identify apoptosis-inducing effect of HY-1. The alterations of apoptosis-relating proteins were detected by Western blot.

RESULTSThe IC(50) of HY-1 in K562 cells was (29.05 +/- 0.90) micromol/L by SRB assay. HY-1 had significant apoptotic inducing effect on K562 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner as verified by appearance of Sub-G(1) peak on histogram of flow cytometry analysis, reduction of mitochondria membrane voltage, appearance of double positive cell group in Annexin V-PI apoptosis detecting test, and remarkable DNA ladder. The expression of cytosolic cytochrome c was apparently increased. Pro-caspase-9, pro-caspase-3 and PARP were all cleaved to active segments. There was no change in the expression of caspase-8.

CONCLUSIONHY-1 exerts its anticancer activity through triggering apoptosis of K562 cells by mitochondria-activating pathways.

OBJECTIVETo explore syndrome and treatment laws for treating diseases of the pulmonary system by establishing database based on clinical works by modern famous veteran doctors of Chinese medicine (CM).

METHODSClinical experience and literature of medical records in clinical works by modern famous veteran doctors of CM were taken as data source. Database was established by fields and program design. On these bases, data mining methods such as frequency analysis, cluster analysis, factor analysis, and correlation laws were performed in syndrome and treatment laws for treating diseases of the pulmonary system.

RESULTSEstablished were database capable of literature searching, information statistics, data mining of modern famous veteran doctors of CM. A total of 34,414 data were input, including medical records and notes 28,045 items (81.49%) and clinical experience 6,369 items (18.51%). In medical records and notes, there were 14,048 items (50.09%) in male and 9,466 items (33.75%) in female, and the ratio of male to female was 1.48:1. There were 4,531 items (16.16%) with no marked gender in medical records or notes. Data mining such as correlation analysis, cluster analysis, factor analysis, correlation laws in more fields could be realized.

CONCLUSIONSMedical records and notes were dominated in data collected in this paper. The prevalence of pulmonary diseases was obviously higher in males than in females. The trend of concentrated manifestations in related fields for pulmonary diseases could be surfed by this database. Diagnosis and treatment laws for treating diseases of the pulmonary system could be found by various adaptive data mining targeting different fields. Multi-variables of symptoms, syndromes, prescriptions, and herbal drugs could be data mined in large samples of clinical literatures.

OBJECTIVETo explore the possibility of peripheral nerve damage induced by antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) in different age rats and its pathogenesis.

METHODSAdult (2-month-old) and infant (7-day-old) rats were divided into 8 groups (n = 16 in each) and treated with the following 7 AEDs respectively: phenytoin [PHT, 62.5 mg/(kgxd)], phenobarbital [PB, 30.0 mg/(kgxd)], sodium valproate [VPA, 312.5 mg/(kgxd)], clonazepam [CZP, 1.25 mg /(kgxd)], carbamazepine [CBZ, 187.5 mg/(kgxd)], topiramate [TPM, 40 mg/(kgxd)], oxcarbazepine [OXC, 312.5 mg/(kgxd)], remaining one group was used as control. Four weeks later, 8 rats were sacrificed randomly from each group and serum, sciatic nerves and spinal cord samples were collected. The rest half rats were sacrificed 4 week after AEDs withdrawal. Histological observations were performed on the sciatic nerves samples, including teased fibers, semi-thin sections and electron microscopy. The activity of total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX) in serum and sciatic nerves were detected respectively. Expression of apoptosis-related proteins Bcl-2 and Bax was detected by immunohistochemistry. Neurons apoptosis in the anterior horns of spinal cord were detected by TUNEL.

RESULTS(1) Except for TPM group, various incidence (7.2% - 20.2%) of teased fibers abnormalities were observed in all the other different age groups. PHT group showed the most serious changes followed by PB (adult) or VPA (infant), CBZ, CZP and OXC groups. The predominant abnormality of teased fibers was demyelination. (2) There was no significant difference in the incidence of pathologic changes in teased fibers between adult and infant groups. Four weeks after AEDs withdrawal, recovery of pathologic changes in teased fibers in infant groups was much better than adult. (3) Significantly increased expression of Bax protein and ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 was only found in infant rats treated with PB, CNP or VPA compared with control (P < 0.05), the results of TUNEL was in accordance with immunohistochemistry. (4) Compared with control, the activity of T-AOC and SOD decreased in both infant and adult rats treated with PHT, CZP, CBZ and OXC, and the reduction of SOD activity in serum and sciatic nerves samples was also found in PB groups. Serum activity of GSH-PX was decreased in both age groups treated with PHT, PB, VPA, CZP, CBZ and OXC. The reduction of GSH-PX activity in sciatic nerves samples was remarkably in both adult and infant rats treated with PHT, PB, CBZ, OXC as well as the infant rats treated with CZP.

CONCLUSIONSSix AEDs (PHT, PB, CBZ, VPA, CZP, OXC) showed the potential to cause peripheral nerves damage. Demyelination was the predominant pathologic change. Both adult and infant rats had the same susceptibility. Recovery of pathologic changes in teased fibers in both age groups was slow, but infant rats were prone to revive more quickly. There was no significant correlation between spinal cord neuron apoptosis and peripheral nerves damages in rats treated with AEDs. Breakdown of oxidation-antioxidation balance was closely related to development of peripheral nerves damages caused by most AEDs.
