Authors report two cases of hypothermic patients with Osborne's J wave on electrocardiogram. A 46-year-old male with liver cirrhosis was brought to the emergency room by ambulance due to comatous mental status. On exammination, the body temperature was below 35 degree C. By rewarming using warm normal saline intravenous infusion and hot pack application on the chest, his body temperature rose up to 36 degree C and regained consciousness. Later, he expired with afterdrop phenomenon. Another 41-year-old stuporous quadriplegic male with post-traumatic cerebral palsy was brought to the emergency room by his family complaining weakness and vomiting. On exammination, the body temperature was below 35degree C. He was rewarmed using warm normal saline intravenous infusion and hot pack application on the chest. However, he could not regain his normal body temperature and expired due to irreversible shock.

2.Measurement of maxillary sinus volume for the placement of graft material: a case control study using CT image.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to determine whether a difference in the amount of bone graft material is needed between edentulous patients and dentulous patients and to calculate the amount of augmentation for a sinus lift procedure. METHODS: 19 patients (20 sinuses) were included to measure maxillary sinus volume. Facial CT scanning was performed using MX 8000 IDT CT devices (Philips, USA). And it was used for IDLvm (The IDL Virtual Machine) 6.0, CT Volume Analyzer Ver 2.3 program to measure maxillary sinus volumes RESULTS: At edentulous patients, volumes (mean+/-SD) of the inferior portion of the sinuses were 0.56+/-0.13 cm3 (5mm height), 2.35+/-0.57 cm3 (10mm height), 4.85+/-1.10 cm3 (15mm height). At dentulous patients, volumes (mean+/-SD) of the inferior portion of the sinuses were 0.41+/-0.18 cm3 (5mm height), 1.76+/-0.42 cm3 (10mm height), 3.80+/-0.84 cm3 (15mm height). A significant correlation was found between augmentation height (5mm, 10mm, 15mm) and the calculated sinus volume. (p=0.027, p=0.018, p=0.044) CONCLUSIONS: A significant correlation was found between augmentation height (5mm, 10mm, 15mm) and the calculated sinus volume. Detailed preoperative knowledge of sinus lift augmentation volume is helpful in determining the appropriate amount of the bone graft material.

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in Korea; it is the second most common cancer in men and the third most common in women. The incidence rate in Korea has continuously increased since 1999 when the National Cancer Registry statistics began. Currently; there are several screening modalities; that have been recommended by expert societies, including fecal occult blood test, colonoscopy, computed tomographic colonography The annual fecal immunochemical test (FIT) has been used in adults aged 50 and older as part of the National Cancer Screening Program in Korea since 2004. Although several study results from regional or national colorectal cancer screening programs in other countries have been reported, the National Cancer Screening Program in Korea has not yet been evaluated with evidence-based methods. Herein report the consensus statements on the National Screening Guideline for colorectal cancer developed by a multi-society expert committee in Korea, as follows: 1) We recommend annual or biennial FIT for screening for colorectal cancer in asymptomatic adults, beginning at 45 years of age and continuing until 80 years (recommendation B). 2) There is no evidence for the risks or benefits of FIT in adults older than 80 years (recommendation I). 3) Selective use of colonoscopy for colorectal cancer screening is recommended, taking into consideration individual preference and the risk of colorectal cancer (recommendation C). 4) There is no evidence for the risks or benefits of double-contrast barium enema for colorectal cancer screening in asymptomatic adults (recommendation I). 5) There is no evidence for the risks or benefits of computed tomographic colonography for colorectal cancer screening in asymptomatic adults (recommendation I).
