To evaluate the expression of ras, neu oncoprotein a.nd epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) on uterine cervieal carcinoma, imimunohistochemieal staining was performed on 9 cases of dysplasia, 39 cases of careinoma in situ(CIS), 32 cases of microinvasive earcinoma(WIC) and 60 cases of frankly invasive carrinoma(FIC). The results obtained were as follows: Ras p21 protein was positive in 29.5% of total cases, and it was very low in dysplasia lesion(12. 5%) and CLS(17.9%) while it was high in MIC(31.3%) and FIC(38.9%). In CIS, parabasal cell type showed positive reaction in only 8.7%, but pleomorpkic type showed 60.0% positivity. Invasive carcinoma showed no significant differences between histolegic types. Expression of neu protein was very high in caneerous group(around 95%) and slight,ly lower in dysp]asia(75.0%). No differences were found depending on histologic types and stages. EGFR was expressed in 51.8% of total cases; 12.5% of dysplasia; 54.2% of all cases of carcinoma. Keratinizing type of CIS showed highest positive reaction(90,0%), of which tendency were also noted in keratinizing type of i.nvasvie cinoma(76.2%). The results suggested that ras and EGFR could be used as a factor of prognostic value.

Livedoid vasculitis is characterized clinically by smooth or depressed ivory-white scars surrounded by hyperpigmentation and telangiectasia with or without preceding purpuric in-filtrated papules and plaques and histologically by intravascular deposition of fibrin. Its pathophysiology is still obscure. Many treatment modalities have been used, but results are not satisfactory. Recently, there have been experiences of successful treatments with danazol, a synthetic androgen. We used danazol in three patients who presented with livedoid vasculitis and were relatively resistant to treatments with aspirin and/or pentoxifylline. After 4 to 8 weeks, there was remarkable clinical improvement in all three patients.

Purpose: Divergence insufficiency is characterized by esotropia at far distance with symptomatic diplopia, minimal or no deviation at near distance, and full ocular duction and version. We analyzed the results of bilateral lateral rectus (BLR) tucking in patients with divergence insufficiency. Methods: Surgery was performed on patients with persistent distance diplopia with esotropia for at least 6 months after diplopia onset. The surgical results were evaluated after BLR tucking based on the maximum angle of deviation at distance among all the angles of deviation measured repeatedly, including the results of the prism adaptation test (PAT). Results: 24 patients were included. The average follow-up period was 14 months (1-48 months). The maximum deviations measured by alternate prism and cover test before surgery were 24.79 ± 8.15 prism diopter (PD) at far distance and 15.45 ± 9.30 PD at near distance. The PAT revealed that, the far distance deviation increased to 28.50 ± 7.77 PD and that at near distance to 25.88 ± 8.07 PD, but the difference between the two values fell to less than 3 PD on average. In 14 patients (58%), followed-up for up to 1 year, we noted no recurrence of diplopia or esotropia, or near distance overcorrection, with the exception of one patient who developed diplopia recurrence at far distance. Conclusions BLR tucking guided by the maximum distance deviation of the 1 hour PAT affords stable results in patients with divergence insufficiency without overcorrection at near distance or undercorrection at far distance.

Objective: This study identified the incidence and risk factors for headache attributed to acute pyelonephritis. Methods: The inclusion criteria were patients who were admitted with acute pyelonephritis at our hospital and ≥ 18 years of age. The following exclusion criteria were used: 1) patients who could not express their headache because of mental deterioration, 2) the presence of meningitis or meningoencephalitis, or 3) structural lesions on brain computed tomography or magnetic resonance images that could cause headache. The primary outcome was headache attributed to acute pyelonephritis as a dependent variable. The differences were analyzed using demographic and laboratory profiles as independent variables. Additionally, correlation analysis was performedbetweenseverity of headache using VAS score and demographic and laboratory profiles including age, WBC, and CRP. Results: A total of 479 patients met the inclusion criteria for this study, and 97 patients developed headache attributed to acute pyelonephritis. Patients with headache were younger and more likely to be female, and had a lower incidence of diabetes than those without headache. However, laboratory profiles that reflected the severity of acute pyelonephritis were not predictive factors for headache. Multiple logistic regression analysis demonstrated that young age and non-diabetes were independently significant variables for the prediction of headache attributed to acute pyelonephritis. In addition, the VAS score was found to be negative correlated with age, whereas it was not correlated with WBC and CRP. Conclusions: We determined that headache attributed to acute pyelonephritis was relatively common, and it was related to demographic characteristics but not acute pyelonephritis severity.

Heterotopic pregnancy is named when an extrauterine (ectopic) pregnancy coexists with an intrauterine pregnancy simultaneously by many causes such as PID (pelvic inflammatory disease), endometriosis, IUD (intrauterine device), previous pelvic surgery and others. This is very rare in general population, with a range of occurrence estimated between 1:7963 and 1:30000. But recently the incidence has increased as the uses of ARTs (assisted reproductive technologies) including ovulation induction, IVF-ET (in-vitro fertilization and embryo transfer) and GIFT (gamete intrafallopian transfer) increase. Because this has high maternal morbidity, mortality and fetal loss, early diagnosis and proper management is very important. We report a case of heterotopic pregnancy following IVF-ET with a brief review.
