OBJECTIVETo compare the efficacy differences on delayed encephalopathy after carbon monoxide poisoning (DEACMP) between acupuncture to restore consciousness combined with hyperbaric oxygen treatment and simple hyperbaric oxygen treatment.
METHODSForty-one patients with DEACMP were randomly divided into an observation group (21 cases) and a control group (20 cases). In the observation group, acupuncture was applied at Neiguan (PC 6), Shuigou (GV 26), Baihui (GV 20), Sishencong (EX-HN 1), Fengchi (GB 20), Hegu (LI 4), Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Taichong (LR 3), and hyperbaric oxygen treatment was given as well. In the control group, simple hyperbaric oxygen treatment was used. The treatment was adopted once every day, and continuous 5 days' treatment made one session in the two groups. There were two days at the interval between two sessions and 6 sessions in the two groups. The changes of scores of mini mental state examination (MMSE) and Barthel index (BI) for activity of daily life and routine electroencephalogram (EEG) before and after treatment were compared.
RESULTSAfter treatment, the scores of MMSE and BI and EEG were all improved compared with those before treatment (all P<0.01). The raise of the scores of MMSE and BI in the observation group was more obvious than that in the control group (both P<0.05) and the improvement of EEG abnormal condition in the observation group was also superior to that in the control group after treatment (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONAcupuncture to restore consciousness combined with hyperbaric oxygen could obviously improve the cognitive function, activity of daily life and changes of EEG, and it is better than simple hyperbaric oxygen treatment.

Objective To observe the effect of application of Lamaze childbirth method in childbirth. Methods The observation group(110 cases)was trained by Lamaze childbirth method in late pregnancy period. The control group (110 cases) was not trained by Lamase childbirth method in antepartum period, and were given regular observation and nursing. Mastering of natural childbirth knowledge, pain intensity, childbirth time, mode of delivery and amount of bleeding post- childbirth 2h were observed in the two groups. Results The observation group mastered more natural birth knowledge than the control group, childbirth pain was obviously reduced, natural birth rate was higher than the control group, the first and second labor time was shorter than the control group, the amount of bleeding was obviously less than the control group 2 hours post childbirth. Conclusions Pregnant women need Lamaze childbirth method training before childbirth and instruction of maternity nurses. These may relieve pain, shorten childbirth time and reduce amount of bleeding post childbirth by application of Lamaze childbirth method.

The efficiency of cold storage red blood cells (CSRBC) or whole blood at -80 degrees C used in 27 Rh (D) negative patients during surgical operation was reported. The Rh (D) negative patients received the transfusion of CSRBC or whole blood stored at -80 degrees C for 180 to 360 days. The changes in the indexes, such as blood TB, DB, K+, Na+, BUN, Cr, urine protein (URPO), UOB, Hb, HCT, serum total protein, relative to hemolytic reaction and blood volume before and after transfusion were observed. The results showed that after transfusion of CSRBC or whole blood 27 cases were negative for urine protein and UOB, and the levels of BUN and Cr were normal (P > 0.05). Blood TB, DB, Hb, and HCT were increased, while pH, blood K+ and blood Na+ was normal with the difference being not significant before and after operation (P > 0.05). Plasma protein was decreased, but there was no significant difference before and after operation (P > 0.05). It was suggested that CSRBC or whole blood at -80 degrees C could be safely infused to the Rh(D) negative patients without side effects during the surgical operation.

Objective To compare the clinical effects of improved posterolateral minimally invasive approach and traditional posterolateral approach combined with modular femoral head prosthesis in the treatment of femoral neck fractures in the elderly. Methods The study involved 70 patients with femoral neck fractures (26 males and 44 females; at age range of 67-95 years, mean 78.3 years) treated from October 2008 to June 2010.There were 62 patients with fresh femoral neck fractures and eight with old femoral neck fractures (2-4 months post-injury),all of whom were type Ⅲ or Ⅳ fractures according to the Garden' s classification. All surgeries were completed by the same operation group. The improved posterolateral minimally invasive approach group involved 32 patients including 12 males and 20 females and the traditional posterolateral approach group involved 38 patients including 14 males and 24 females. The two groups were compared in aspects of incision size, operative time, perioperative complications, prosthesis stability and hip functional recovery. Results All patients were followed up for an average of 16 weeks (range,12-18 weeks). The differences between the two groups were significant regarding the incision length, perioperative blood loss, and blood product transfusio amount (P <0.01 ),but insignificant in operative time ( P > 0.05 ).All patients were able to take weight-bearing walk six weeks postoperatively. The two groups showed significant difference in the hip joint function by Chamley's criteria six weeks postoperatively ( P < 0.05 ),but insignificant difference in the hip joint function by Harris' s criteria at the last follow-up ( P < 0.05). Conclusion The modified posterolateral minimally invasive approach combined with modular femoral head prosthesis is a satisfactory method in treatment of femoral neck fractures in senile patients, for it can result in less intra-operative soft tissue damage and blood loss,as well as shorter rehabilitation time.
