PURPOSE: This study identified the relationships among subjective health status, wisdom, and self-care agency of Korean older adults. METHODS: The participants were 274 older adults from Daegu, aged over 65 years. Data were collected by visiting two social welfare centers, two senior welfare centers, and nine senior centers in Daegu from January 18 to February 5, 2013. Data were analyzed through one-way ANOVA, independent t-test, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple linear regression using the IBM SPSS/WIN 19.0 statistical program. RESULTS: A significant positive correlation was found among older adults' subjective health status, wisdom, and self-care agency. Self-care agency was affected by wisdom (47%, beta=.55), the physical component summary (18%, beta=.31) and mental component summary (1%, beta=.12) of subjective health status, and the absence of disease (2%, beta=.13). CONCLUSION: This study suggests that nursing interventions to promote self-care agency in older adults should be developed based on the characteristics of their subjective health status and wisdom.

PURPOSE: This study is to grasp factors influencing the quality of life in older adults after total knee replacement. METHODS: This study was conducted with 165 older adults who had TKR at four orthopedic hospitals in D city. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, independent t-test, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple linear regression with SPSS 19.0 software. RESULTS: Pain and depression were negatively correlated with range of motion, social support, while sense of coherence was positively correlated with quality of life. Sense of coherence (43%, β=.40), pain (8%, β=−.30), and depression (3%, β=−.20) on the Physical Component Summary in the quality of life have significant explanatory power of 54%. Sense of coherence (49%, β=.44), social support (6%, β=.25), and depression (3%, β=−.22) on the Mental Component Summary in the quality of life have significant explanatory power of 58%. CONCLUSION: This study suggests developing a program to improve the quality of life in older adults who had TKR, considering factors such as sense of coherence.

The purpose of this study was to examine the association of muscle mass and muscle strength with mobility limitation and history of falls in community-dwelling older adults. This cross-sectional study included 420 older adults (207 men, 213 women, 73.7 ± 5.2 years). The participants were classified to following four groups according to their appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (AMI) which was evaluated by bioelectric impedance analysis for skeletal muscle mass in the arms and legs and appendicular skeletal muscle strength Z-score (ASZ) which was calculated from hand-grip strength for upper extremity and peak reaction force during sit-to-stand movement for lower extremity: 1) Low AMI and Low ASZ, 2) Low AMI alone, 3) Low ASZ alone, and 4) Normal. Mobility limitation and history of falls were assessed as a self-reported questionnaire. We used a poisson regression analysis with an adjustment for age, body mass index, knee pain, and back pain. The prevalence of mobility limitation was significantly higher at Low AMI and Low ASZ (relative risk, RR = 5.09, 95% confidence interval, CI 2.08–12.46) and Low ASZ alone (RR = 4.79, 95% CI 2.01–11.39) in men and Low AMI and Low ASZ (RR = 1.70, 95% CI 1.01–2.88) in women than Normal. History of falls was significantly associated with Low ASZ alone (RR = 2.00, 95% CI 1.02–3.91) just in men. These results suggest that low muscle strength per weight rather than low muscle mass per height is an important risk factor to increase mobility limitation in both genders and falls in men.

Methods: The study subjects were 19,019 elderly living by themselves, who participated in the Korea Community Health Survey 2018 (KCHS, 2018). The data were analyzed using frequency analysis, Rao-Scott chi-square test, t-test, and binary logistic regression analysis, using the SAS 9.4 software. Results: Results from the multiple logistic regression analysis revealed a higher odds ratio (OR) for unmet dental care needs among those with a monthly household income below KRW 1,000,000 (OR=1.64, 95% confidence interval, 95%CI=1.39-1.92), compared to those with an income of above KRW 2,000,000. With regards to stress levels, unmet dental care needs were more prevalent among participants in the “stress moderate” (OR=1.19, 95% CI=1.06-1.33) and “stress” groups (OR=1.68 95% CI=1.48-1.92), compared to the “no stress” group. Furthermore, the OR for unmet dental care needs was significantly higher among participants in the “depression” group (OR=1.84, 95% CI=1.61-2.11) than the “no depression” group. Conclusions Higher unmet dental care needs were found among participants in the low monthly household income, stress, and depression groups. Further study is needed to analyze the association between factors and needs related to unmet dental care.

In this study, we analyzed the healthcare system of North Korea using Kleczkowski's model which categorizes national healthcare infrastructure into five components: health resources, organization, healthcare delivery system, economic support, and management. It was found that the healthcare system in North Korea, which provides clinical medicine, Koryo medicine and preventive medicine, is constituted of a physician system of independent geographic sectors and centralized delivery system while maintaining free universal health coverage. These systems are all managed by the government and the People's Committee Party. However, North Korea has been confronted with severe economic difficulties since the 1990s, such that we question whether the healthcare system has been able to function properly despite of the lack of resources in general throughout the country.

Some species of traditional herbal medicine has a history of use, most traditional natural herbs have been used for various diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. Among them, Passiflora incarnata L. is a traditional natural medicine, flowers as well as berries, roots, and leaves have been used as a medicine. It has been used as a natural medicine for the treatment of insomnia and anxiety for a longtime in Europe, and it has been used primarily for sedation tea in North America. Moreover, Passiflora incarnata L. is widely used anti-asthmatic, analgesic and sedation in Brazil. In other words, Passiflora incarnata L. has been used to treat a sedative, dysmenorrhea, insomnia, cancer, etc. in many countries. Present review of the plants showed a wide range of pharmacological activity in anxiolytic relax the clinical disease, such as anti-inflammatory, anxiety and antioxidant. In addition, Passiflora incarnata L. affects menopause symptoms such as vasomotor symptoms, insomnia, and depression. This review aims to provide the latest information on specific functional components of Passiflora incarnata L. especially the results of clinical trials will provide new insights into opportunities for the future development of natural medicines and doors will be used for purposes of analysis.

PURPOSE: The authors of the present study compared the effects of tenectomy and posterior tenectomy of the superior oblique for treating superior oblique overaction (SOOA). METHODS: The records of 30 eyes of 19 patients who underwent tenectomy or posterior tenectomy of the superior oblique alone or in combination with surgery on other horizontal rectus muscles from April 2005 through November 2010 were reviewed. The review was performed in 3 patients who underwent unilateral superior oblique tenectomy, 5 patients who underwent unilateral superior oblique posterior tenectomy, 3 patients who underwent bilateral superior oblique tenectomy, 6 patients who underwent bilateral superior oblique posterior tenectomy, and 2 patients who underwent superior oblique posterior tenectomy and tenectomy. RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 14.2 years, and the mean follow-up period was 20 months. Through superior oblique tenectomy (11 eyes) and superior oblique posterior tenectomy (19 eyes), the amount of SOOA decreased from +2.27 to +0.09 and from +1.84 to +0.93, respectively. Except for 1 out of 11 eyes with superior oblique tenectomy, SOOA was completely corrected, although SOOA remained in 6 eyes after posterior tenectomy. Therefore, the correctional effects of the 2 methods differed; both procedures showed insignificant correctional effects on vertical strabismus. CONCLUSIONS: Superior oblique tenectomy has a superior long-term weakening effect; however, posterior tenectomy showed a comparable effect in the patient with moderate to severe SOOA. Both of these methods had few complications and are considered to be effective superior oblique weakening procedures.

The Jun activation-domain binding protein 1 (Jab1) recognize a potential coactivator of activator protein 1 (AP-1) such as c-fos, c-jun transcription factor and the fifth subunit of the COP9 signalosome complex. Also, Jab1 activate the c-jun gene resulted cell proliferation. Not only a powerful tumor suppressor but also regulator of apoptosis negative cdk inhibitor p27(kip1) are involved in the cell cycle. This is Jab1 and p27(kip1) interact with each other, Jab1 accelerate p27(kip1) from nuclear to cytoplasm through ubiquitin/proteasome pathway. However, information about the relationship between Jab1 and p27(kip1) is not known much. Taken together, the results of this study identify function and structure of Jab1 and p27(kip1) were described in a recent article on the basis of relevant. Besides Jab1 and p27(kip1) will organize the relationship between the disease and women.

Purpose: Recent obstetric guidelines recommend the administration of antenatal corticosteroids in pregnant women at risk of delivering infants at a gestational age between 34 and 36 weeks. We examined the effect of incompletely administered antenatal corticosteroids on the neonatal pulmonary outcomes in late preterm infants. Methods: Late preterm infants (34+0 to 36+6 weeks gestational age) born at the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital from January 2019 to June 2020 were retrospectively enrolled. We excluded multiple births except twins, those with major congenital anomalies, deaths, or transfers to other hospitals. An incomplete course of antenatal corticosteroids was defined as one in which the first or the second dose of betamethasone was administered within 24 hours before delivery. The rates of neonatal pulmonary morbidities were compared between late preterm infants given incomplete courses antenatal corticosteroids and their peers who not given antenatal corticosteroids; these morbidities included respiratory distress syndrome and transient tachypnea of the newborn, assisted ventilation including invasive mechanical ventilation, nasal continuous positive airway pressure and high-flow nasal cannula, and admission to neonatal intensive care unit. Results: Logistic regression models were constructed while adjusting for factors which were significant in bivariate models. After adjusting for baseline maternal and neonatal characteristics, we found no significant differences in the rates of neonatal pulmonary morbidities, assisted ventilation, or admission to the neonatal intensive care unit between late preterm infants who received incomplete antenatal corticosteroid therapy and their peers who were not given any antenatal corticosteroids. Conclusion Incompletely administered antenatal corticosteroids did not significantly alter the neonatal pulmonary outcomes in late preterm infants.
