AIM:This study was to investigate the expression and significance of Bmi-1 in colorectal carcinoma (CRC),and to explore the effect of Bmi-1 on Ki67 expression in human CRC.METHODS:The samples from sixty CRC,thirty adenomas and twenty normal colorectal mucosal tissues were used in this study. The expression of Bmi-1 protein was detected by immunohistochemistry. The clinicopathological features and survival rate of patients were also analyzed.RESULTS:The overexpression of Bmi-1 was respectively 25.0%,6.7%and 0% in CRC and adenomas as well as normal colorectal mucosal tissues. The results showed that the expression of Bim-1 was significantly higher in CRC,compared with that in adenomas and normal colorectal mucosal tissues (P0.05). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that the overexpression of Bmi-1 reduced significantly survival of CRC patients (P

OBJECTIVE To study the correlation between nosocomial infection rate and hand hygiene compliance rate in health care workers.METHODS We analyzed the data about hand hygiene compliance rate in health care workers, nosocomial infection rate and meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) infection rate from 2004 to 2007.RESULTS A total of 6350 hand hygiene times in health care workers in 4 years were observed. The hand hygiene compliance rate increased significantly from 34.58% to 74.52%(P

Objective To study the effect of different family nursing methods on major catheter-re-lated complications in cancer patients with peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) during chemother-apy intermission so as to reduce the incidence of complications and prolong the indwelling time and service life of the catheter. Methods We randomly divided 213 cancer patients who were discharged from hos-pital with PICC into two groups. One group(108 cases) routinely came back to our outpatient clinic and the other (105 cases) went to the community for nursing of the catheter. Results The total incidence rate of complications of the group who came back to our outpatient clinic for nursing of the catheter was 13.8%(15/ 108) and the other group was 51.4%(54/105). There existed statistical significance between the two groups (P<0.01). Conclusions There exists correlation between different family nursing methods and catheter complication rate. We suggest patients come back to our outpatient clinic for nursing of the catheter as pos-sible as they can.

Objective:To investigate the possible role of non-invasive fibrosis scoring systems for detecting high-risk plaque among patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).Methods:A total of 477 consecutive asymptomatic subjects underwent a health checkup including coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) and abdominal ultrasonography. Fatty liver was evaluated using ultrasonography, and the NAFLD fibrosis score (NFS) was calculated. Coronary stenosis and plaque were evaluated using coronary CTA.Results:Of the study population, 223 had NAFLD. Among the NAFLD patients, high-risk coronary plaque was more frequent in patients with high or intermediate NFS than those with low NFS (62.5% versus 24.0%, P<0.001). The adjusted odds ratio with 95% confidence interval of high-risk plaque was 3.24 (1.11-9.40) for the highest versus lowest quartile of NFS ( P=0.016). Among those without NAFLD, NFS was not associated with high-risk coronary plaque (C-statistic with NFS versus without NFS, 0.766 versus 0.764, P=0.715). Adding NFS to the traditional cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk model increased the C-statistics by 0.679 to 0.739 ( P=0.031). Conclusions:There was an independent association of NFS with high-risk coronary plaque in patients with NAFLD, suggesting its potential use to optimize management of patients with NAFLD.

A 54-year-old man was admitted to respiratory department with chief complaints of recurrent cough and dyspnea. Chest imaging showed multiple patchy shadows and interstitial changes. Evidence of infectious diseases was not definite, and antibiotic treatments were not effective. In the meantime, myelodysplasia syndrome was diagnosed with pancytopenia. The pathologic findings of transbronchoscopic lung biopsyshowed chronic inflammatory interstitial changes, suggesting a clinical diagnosis of organizing pneumonia. After glucocorticoids treatment, his condition aggravated. The second percutaneous lung biopsy showed the infiltration of a large number of neutrophils. Therefore, the final diagnosis of myelodysplasia syndrome with Sweet syndrome was made. Then glucocorticoids and supportive treatment were given This case may improve physicians' understanding of myelodysplasia syndrome complicated with Sweet syndrome.
