Journal of Clinical Hepatology 2019;35(12):2812-2816
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and can progress to liver cirrhosis and even hepatocellular carcinoma, but there are still no effective pharmacotherapies for NAFLD at present. Sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT-2i) is a newly approved oral hypoglycemic agent and can effectively reduce blood glucose. Meanwhile, SGLT-2i can improve NAFLD by improving lipid accumulation and insulin resistance, exerting anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative stress effects, reducing liver fibrosis degree, and delaying the progression to hepatocellular carcinoma. SGLT-2i also helps with the prevention of NAFLD by reducing the toxicity of high glucose, body weight, and blood uric acid and improving liver dysfunction. This article reviews the current status of T2DM with NAFLD, the mechanism of action of SGLT-2i, the effect of SGLT-2i in preventing T2DM with NAFLD, and the safety of SGLT-2i.

Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of catgut-embedding (CE) therapy based on respiration-induced reinforcing and reducing and electro-acupuncture (EA) therapy in treating simple obesity with spleen deficiency and dampness retention. Methods Sixty simlpe obesity patients with spleen deficiency and dampness retention were randomized into CE group and EA group, 30 cases in each group. The acupoints selected for the two groups were the same, and the points were Zhongwan, Shuifen, Qihai, Guanyuan, Tianshu, Liangmen, Daheng, Fujie, Quchi, Xuehai, Yinlingquan, Fenglong, and Ashi. CE group was given CE therapy with the needling for CE therapy referred to the respiration-induced reinforcing and reducing method, and EA group was given EA therapy for 2 continuous treatment courses, 4 weeks constituting one course. Body mass and body mass index (BMI) of the two groups before and after treatment were observed, and the clinical efficacy was also evaluated after treatment. Results (1) After treatment for 2 courses, body mass and BMI of the two groups were obviously decreased(P<0.05 compared with those before treatment), but the differences between the two groups were insignificant (P > 0.05). (2) The total effective rate of CE group was 90.0% and that of EA group was 86.7%, and the difference between the two groups was insignificant (P > 0.05). Conclusion The therapeutic effect of CE therapy based on respiration-induced reinforcing and reducing in treating simple obesity with spleen deficiency and dampness retention is similar to that of EA therapy, and the patients can choose anyone of them for loosing body weight according to the preference.

Chinese Journal of Microbiology and Immunology 2021;41(12):906-911
Objective:To study the transcriptional regulation of pilABCD by the master quorum sensing (QS) regulator OpaR in Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Methods:Total RNAs were extracted from the wild type (WT) and opaR mutant (Δ opaR) strain. Quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) was employed to calculate the transcriptional variation of pilA (the first gene of pilABCD operon) between WT and Δ opaR. The regulatory DNA region of pilABCD was cloned into the corresponding restriction endonuclease sites of pHRP309 harboring a promoterless lacZ reporter gene. The recombinant pHRP309 plasmid was then transferred into WT and Δ opaR, respectively, to detect the β-galactosidase activity in cellular extracts using a β-Galactosidase Enzyme Assay System (Promega). The primer extension assay was applied to map the transcription start site of pilABCD using the total RNAs extracted from the WT strain as the template. The regulatory DNA region of pilABCD was amplified by PCR, and the over-expressed His-OpaR was purified under native conditions with nickel loaded HiTrap Chelating Sepharose columns (Amersham). Thereafter, the electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) was applied to analyze the DNA-binding activity of His-OpaR to the target DNA in vitro, and the DNase I footprinting assay was further employed to detect the DNA-binding sites of His-OpaR within the target DNA. Results:The results of qPCR and LacZ fusion assays showed that OpaR activated the transcription of pilABCD, leading to a gradual increase in the expression level of pilA with the extension of culture time. The primer extension assay detected only one transcription start site located at 155 bp upstream of pilA. The results of EMSA and DNase Ⅰ footprinting assays showed that His-OpaR protected two DNA regions located from -246 to -197 bp and -181 to -131 bp upstream of pilA. Conclusions:Vibrio parahaemolyticus OpaR activated the transcription of pilABCD in a direct manner.

Psychiatry Investigation 2022;19(4):289-301
Objective:
This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of externalizing behavior problems (EBPs) and its influencing factors among Hui left-behind children (LBC) in rural China.
Methods:
A cross-sectional study was conducted among school students from the southern rural areas in Ningxia, China (2012–2013). The general self-made questionnaire, Egma Minnen av Bardndosna Uppforstran, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (for Children), Piers-Harris Children’s Self-Concept Scale, and Achenbach’s Child Behavior Checklist (for parents) were used to investigate the related information. Binary logistic regressions were conducted.
Results:
The prevalence of EBPs in boys Hui LBC was significantly higher than that of non-LBC (12.37% vs. 6.84%, χ2=4.09, and p=0.04). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that low self-awareness of behavior (odds ratio [OR]=29.78), introversion (OR=21.67) and intermediate personality (OR=15.83), poor academic performance (OR=11.65) and both parent migrating (OR=2.73) were the risk factors for the EBPs of Hui LBC, while middle and high father refusal and denial (OR=0.11, OR=0.09) were their protective factors.
Conclusion
Our findings suggest that both parent migrating is a potential risk factor for EBPs among Hui LBC. Hui boys LBC should be paid more attention when formulating relevant policies.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder among women of childbearing age. Persistent chronic inflammation can promote the progression of PCOS, thereby causing serious impacts on women’s endocrine metabolism, reproductive function, and psychological status. Nuclear factors- κB (NF- κB) signaling pathway is one of the most classic inflammatory response transduction pathways and is closely related to the pathological process of PCOS. This article summarizes the mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine intervention in PCOS based on the NF-κB signaling pathway, and finds that various monomers of traditional Chinese medicine [flavonoids (naringenin, soy isoflavone, rhamnocitrin, etc.), alkaloids (berberine, ligustrazine) and terpenoids (artesunate, cryptotanshinone), glycosides (salidroside, glycyrrhizic acid)] and traditional Chinese medicine compounds [formula for tonifying kidney (Bushen huayu formula, Bushen huatan formula, etc.), formula for eliminating damp and dissolving phlegm (Cangfu daotan decoction, Xiehe yin, Erchen decoction), formula for regulating blood circulation and removing stasis (Gexia zhuyu decoction, Huatan tongmai yin)] can alleviate inflammatory response, improve abnormal glucose and lipid metabolism, and enhance ovarian function by inhibiting NF-κB signaling pathway, thus improving PCOS.
