The purpose of this study was designed to develope and test the structural model that explains alcohol consumption behaviors among university students in Republic of Korea. The hypothetical model was constructed on the basis of the literature review and Pender's Health promotion model. Data was collected from questionnaires from 512 university students in Republic of Korea, from August to September, 2000. The reliability of instruments was adequate (Cronbach's alpha= .69-.90). Data analysis was done with SAS 6.12 for descriptive statistics and LISREL 8.13 program for covariance structural analysis. The results are as follows;1. The overall fit of the hypothetical model to the data was moderate. Thus it was modified by male and female models.2. The revised model has become parsimonious and had a better fit to the empirical data (male: x2=87.21 p=.00, GFI=.97, AGFI= .94, NFI=.99, NNFI=1.0, CN=619.17, female: x2=49.29 p=.31, GFI=.45, AGFI= .95, NFI=.99, NNFI=1.0, CN=370.02).3. Self-efficacy was most significant factor and personality of novelty seeking, reward compensation, alcohol expectancy and drinking attitude have significant effects on male alcohol consumption behavior. 4. Personality of novelty seeking was most significant factor and personality of harm avoidance, friend influence, self-efficacies, alcohol expectancy and drinking attitude have significant effects on female alcohol consumption behavior.

This study was conducted to investigate the influences of factors on binocularity in accommodative esotropia. On the basis of sensory tests, patients were divided into two groups, bifixation and monofixation. Bifixation, defined as stereopsis of 50 seconds or better, was present in 57 patients (62%). Monofixation (peripheral fusion) was present in the remaining 35 patients (38%). The first hyperopic glasses were significantly more likely to be prescribed to patients with bifixation than to those with monofixation while the esotropia is still intermittent(p<0.05). There were no significant differences between the bifixation and monofixation groups for age of onset of strabismus, amount of hyperopia, presence of amblyopia and anisometropia, time intervals between onset of strabismus and prescription of hyperopic glasses. In summary, maintenance of bifixation is possible in accommodative esotropia by effective therapeutic intervention during the intermittent phase.

PURPOSE: This study identifies the influences of self-directed learning ability and metacognition on clinical competence in nursing students. METHOD: The subjects consisted of 290 second and third year nursing students. The data were analyzed using t-tests, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple linear regression via SPSS Statistics version 18.0. RESULTS: On a scale of 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest), the mean self-directed learning ability score of the subjects was 3.19, mean metacognition score was 3.36 and mean clinical competence score was 3.29. A positive correlation was found between clinical competence with self-directed learning ability and metacognition. The strongest predictor of clinical competence was metacognition. CONCLUSION: To improve the clinical competence of nursing students, these findings indicate that increasing metacognition ability is required.

PURPOSE: Clinical manifestations and surgical outcomes of intermittent exotropia with or without dissociated vertical deviation (DVD) were evaluated. METHODS: Patients who were diagnosed with intermittent exotropia following surgical correction were divided into 2 groups: 66 patients with DVD (DVD group) and 81 patients without DVD (XT group). The postoperative deviation between exodeviation of 10 prism diopters (PD) and esotropia of 5 PD was considered surgically successful. RESULTS: The onset of strabismus occurred at an earlier age in the DVD group. There were more cases of nystagmus, inferior oblique muscle overaction, superior oblique muscle overaction, and AV pattern in the DVD group than in the XT group, but there were no differences between the 2 groups in terms of head tilt, amblyopia, and age at first operation. While exodeviation in the DVD group was smaller than in the XT group, stereopsis in the DVD group was statistically worse than in the XT group in the Titmus test. At postoperative 1 month, the XT group had better surgical outcome, but at postoperative 6 and 12 months, there were no differences in the surgical outcomes of intermittent exotropia between the 2 groups. Regarding DVD surgery, a postoperative DVD angle less than 10 PD accounted for 90.0% of the cases. CONCLUSIONS: Intermittent exotropia combined with DVD had worse stereoacuity and lesser exodeviation. There was no statistically significant difference in the surgical outcomes of intermittent exotropia with or without DVD.

PURPOSE: This study were to investigate BMD of middle-aged women and to examine the relationships between BMD and Physical, Obstetric characteristics METHOD: The data was collected from 119 healthy women who were 40-60 years old. they were examined for BMD at 4 regions(forearm, lumbar, femur, whole body), %fat by DEXA and investigated physical, obstetric characteristics using scale, questionnaire from January to March, 2001. RESULT: 1) According to bone diagnostic results by WHO classification, 95.8% of forearm and whole body BMD were normal but 21.8-48.7% of lumbar and femur BMD(neck, trochanter, ward's triangle) were diagnosed osteoporosis or osteopnea. 2) The bones were significantly positive correlations of each other (r=.19-.69, p=.04-.00) and there were significant correlations between BMD and physical, obstetric characteristics such as age (r=-.22, p=.02), weight(r=.36~.48, p=.00), height(r=.22, p=.02), %fat(r=.19, p=.04) and age of first delivery(r=-.28, p=.00). CONCLUSION: Based on this study, healthy middle-aged women were also exposed to risk of osteoporosis related to aging, change of physical conditions or hormonal release. Further research to develop nursing interventions for the purpose of preventing osteoporosis by modifying risk factors is suggested.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to understand family members' experience of deciding to withdraw life-sustaining treatments for terminally-ill patients in an unconscious state. METHODS: Data were collected by performing an in-depth interview with eight terminally-ill patients' family members who decided to withdraw life-sustaining treatments. Colaizzi's phenomenological method was used for data analysis. RESULTS: Questions were classified into 12 groups and finally into five categories. The five categories were about family members' frustration with patient's condition, emotional preparation for the patient's death upon medical professionals' recommendation, patient's wishes, exhaustion due to caring and past experiences related to life-sustaining treatment. CONCLUSION: Using the five categories, hospice and palliative professionals could better understand family members' decision making experience of withdrawing life-sustaining treatments for terminally-ill patients. Based on that, the family members could be provided with appropriate counseling and care, which in turn could improve hospice and palliative care intervention.

Dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor(DNET) is a recently described rare tumor that occurs most frequently in the temporal lobe of the brain and is characterized by long-standing, intractable complex partial seizures in children. The authors experienced one case of DNET occurring in a 13-year old boy, who had refractory complex partial seizure for 7 years. CT scan revealed nonenhancing low density mass in the left temporal lobe. MR images demonstrated a well-marginated cortical mass with very low signal intensity on TIWI and multinodular appearance of high signal intensity on T2WI. A few small enhancing foci within the mass were noted on contrast enhanced MR images. DNET, a rare tumor, should be considered in the differential diagnosis of neoplasm which causes seizure and is distinguished from other tumors because of its benign course. Differentiation between DN ETand other tumors by CT and MR findings is very difficult. But, our case showed the multinodular pattern on T2W image, which may be helpful feature in the differential diagnosis.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors affecting Deviant Behaviors of Korean High school Students. METHOD: Data was collected from October 8 to 31, 2002. The subjects for this study were 697 Korean High school Students(boys 347, girls 350), recruited from two High School located in Seoul. Data collection was conducted through the use of 6 Questionnaire that modified by the investigator. The data was analyzed by the SPSS win 10.0 program using Descriptive statistics, Pearson Correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. RESULT: 1) The mean of total item score the Deviant Behaviors scales was 1.59, which was slightly low. 2) There was a significant correlation between Deviant Behaviors, Type A Personality, Aggression, Impulsivity, Stress and Social Support(gamma= .11 ~ .65, p < .001), but It was no significant correlation Type A Personality and Stress(gamma= -.01). 3) Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that (1) Impulsivity, Social Support and Type A Personality were the predictors of Deviant Behaviors and account for 18.6% of the variance in Deviant Behaviors. (2) Impulsivity account for 3.6% of the variance in Deviant Behaviors in Subjects with a lower degree of score the Deviant Behaviors. Impulsivity and Social Support account for 23.2% of the variance in Deviant Behaviors in subjects with higher degree of score the Deviant Behaviors. (3) Impulsivity account for 18.3% of the variance in Deviant Behaviors in High school girls (n=350). Impulsivity and Social Support account for 20.1% of the variance in Deviant Behaviors in High school boys (n=347). CONCLUSION: Impulsivity and Social Support account for Deviant Behaviors of High school Students. Therefore it is necessary to develop nursing intervention to reduce the level of Impulsivity, to increase the Social Support in order to decrease the Deviant Behaviors.
