This study was a descriptive research in search of a nursing intervention scheme to improve stroke patients' quality of life by understanding the relationship of stroke patients' ADL. depression, self-efficacy and quality of life with various variables and identifying factors that affect their quality of life. Each subject was interviewed one to one based on a structured questionnaire. With regard to research tools, Modified Barthel Index (MBI: Fortinsky et al., 1981), which was translated by Choi, Hye-sook (996), was used in measuring ADL, Randloff's (1977) tool. which was translated by Choi, Soon-hee, was used in measuring depression, and the tool developed by Sherer et al. (1982), which is to measures self-efficacy under general conditions not limited to specific conditions, and modified by O, Bok-ja (1994) was used in measuring self-efficacy. The quality of life was measured using the scale of satisfaction of life developed by Diener et al.(1985). The results of this study were as follows: 1. The means of ADL of the subjects was 79.5+/-1.9, depression 26.8+/-0.4. self-efficacy 47.1+/-5.7, and the quality of life 12.3+/-.9. 2. The subjects' quality of life showed a statistically significant difference according to gender (t=7.9, p= .006), satisfaction with income (F= 5.8, p = .004), the burden of medical fee (F=3.7, p= .028) and the period of disease (F=2.8. p= .042). 3. With regard to relationship among ADL, depression, self-efficacy and the quality of life, ADL was in a relatively low positive correlation (r= .293, p= .003) with and the quality of life, depression in a high negative correlation (r=- .634. p= .000) with the quality of life. and self-efficacy in a positive correlation with the quality of life (r= .388. p= .000). 4. Factors that made a significant influence on the quality of life were depression (8=- .309. p= .001) and satisfaction with income (8=-2.611. p= .001). Based on these results, this study made following suggestions: 1. It is necessary to run rehabilitation programs to improve stroke patients' ADL, depression and self-efficacy. 2. It is necessary to perform research of monitoring stroke patients' quality of life in various areas using measuring tools.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to find out the quality of life and to identify the related characteristics for nursing care in pneumconiosis elderly patients. METHODS: The subjects for this study were 206 elderly patients who received pneumoconiosis treatment in the two pneumoconiosis specialized hospitals located in Gangwondo, Korea. The instrument used for this study was Quality of Life Index Pulmonary version III. The data was collected from February 17 to March 10, 2003, and analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test using SPSS. RESULTS: The results of this study were as follows : 1. The highest frequency in chief complaints was dyspnea, 91 subjects(44.2%), and complications was tuberculosis, 88 subjects (42.7%). 2. The total mean score of the level of quality of life was 14.49+/-2.18. 3. The score of quality of life showed higher in good family relationship group than the other after diagnosed pneumoconisis(F=5.486, P=0.001). 4. The comparison of quality of life was significant according to oxygen use(t=2.674, P=0.008), bronchodilators use(t=2.678, P=0.008), and prospect of future health status concerning pneumoconiosis(F=2.960, P=0.021). CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, adequate nursing intervention as effective management of respiratory symptoms and improvement of family support will be needed to improve the quality of life in pneumoconiosis elderly patients.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the casual relationship between nurses' social capital, job engagement and nursing performance and to verify the goodness of fit between a hypothetical model and actual data in order to suggest the best model. METHODS: This survey was conducted with 250 nurses working in 3 general hospitals in Seoul. Data were collected from June 20 to July 29, 2016 and analyzed using SPSS/WIN 21.0 and AMOS 21.0. RESULTS: Nurses' social capital and job engagement were found to have no direct effect on increasing nursing performance. But, it was found that social capital and job engagement had indirect effects on nursing performance through mediating organizational citizenship behavior. Social capital had direct effects on increasing job engagement and indirect effects on organizational citizenship behavior. CONCLUSION: Results of this study indicate that nurse managers should concentrate efforts on increasing nurses's job engagement and preparing organization to increase social capital in order to improve nursing performance.

The authors evaluated ultlrasonographic findings of surgically or pathologically proven anterior abdominalwall lesion in 17 cases. The results were follows; 1. Ultrasonography is an accurate, convenient and noninvasive method to detect and determine the extent of anterior abdominal wall lesion. 2. Peritoneal fascia interface is animportant landmark in differenciation between intraperitoneal and abdominal wall lesion. 3. Sonographic differenciation of abscess and hematoma from tumor was impossible.

PURPOSE: This study was done to compare the effectiveness of web based learning versus traditional education for learning foley-catheterization in Basic Nursing. METHOD: This study was a quasi-experimental research. The participants were 60 students who were taking Basic Nursing at A nursing college (3 years) in G city. Thirty students each were assigned to the experimental or control group. Data were collected between October 20 and November 4, 2003. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test and ANCOVA. RESULTS: The mean score for competence in foley-catheterization practice in the experimental group was 48.63 and in the control group, 44.67. This result was statistically significant (t=7.655, p=.001). The mean score for knowledge in the experimental group was 63.0, while for the control group, 64.0. This result was not statistically significant (t=-.330, p=.743). The mean score for confidence in learning in the experimental group was 26.70 for the pre-test and 30.73 for the post-test, and in the control group 27.93 and 28.37 respectively, but this result was not statistically significant (F=.858, p=.358). CONCLUSION: The Web based learning was found to be effective in nursing practice but not nursing knowledge. It is necessary to continue to develop approaches to teaching nursing and to evaluate these approaches with further research.

A retrospective analysis of ultrasonograms of 24 patients with acute pancreatitis and 8 patients with chronicpancreatitis was performed. Nine cases were proven by surgery and 23 cases were diagnosed clinically. Generalizedpancreatic enlargement with normal in size and echogenicity was normal or slightly altered in chronicpancreatitis. Ultrasonography is considered a simple and accurate method in the diagnosis of acute pancreatitisand thus it could be an initial test in patients with suspected acute pancreatitis.

Neurenteric cyst is a rare bronchopulmonary foregut malformation, originating from notochord defect. Characteristics of this anomaly are the intrathoracic cyst associated with vertebral abnormalities, such as hemivertebrae, anterior and posterior spina bifida, absence of vertebrae and diastematomyelia. The most common symptom is respiratory distress and treatment is surgical excision of mass. We report a case of neurenteric cyst in a neonate presented with asymptomatic huge mediastinal cystic mass.

PURPOSE: Purpose of this research was to identify effects of application of a modified primary nursing system. METHODS: Measurement was done of direct nursing time and satisfaction of nurses and patients before and after one month of the modified primary nursing system in a surgery unit in C university hospital, Seoul. RESULTS: There was no statistically significant difference between average for patient satisfaction (4.24) before and (4.11) after application of the modified primary nursing system. Total average for nurse satisfaction with the nursing delivery system was 2.89 before application and, 3.34 after, indicating some significant differences (t=-4.06, p<.001). The KPCS-1 was 10.19 before application of the modified primary nursing system and 9.52 after application. Recalculated into direct nursing time, the average direct nursing time for one patient was 92 minutes before application, and 85.98 minutes after, indicating no significant difference. CONCLUSION: Through this research an attempt was made to build and test a modified primary nursing system. Results indicate that the most important thing is to clearly regulate office work and safely implement the new system.
