This study was a descriptive research in search of a nursing intervention scheme to improve stroke patients' quality of life by understanding the relationship of stroke patients' ADL. depression, self-efficacy and quality of life with various variables and identifying factors that affect their quality of life. Each subject was interviewed one to one based on a structured questionnaire. With regard to research tools, Modified Barthel Index (MBI: Fortinsky et al., 1981), which was translated by Choi, Hye-sook (996), was used in measuring ADL, Randloff's (1977) tool. which was translated by Choi, Soon-hee, was used in measuring depression, and the tool developed by Sherer et al. (1982), which is to measures self-efficacy under general conditions not limited to specific conditions, and modified by O, Bok-ja (1994) was used in measuring self-efficacy. The quality of life was measured using the scale of satisfaction of life developed by Diener et al.(1985). The results of this study were as follows: 1. The means of ADL of the subjects was 79.5+/-1.9, depression 26.8+/-0.4. self-efficacy 47.1+/-5.7, and the quality of life 12.3+/-.9. 2. The subjects' quality of life showed a statistically significant difference according to gender (t=7.9, p= .006), satisfaction with income (F= 5.8, p = .004), the burden of medical fee (F=3.7, p= .028) and the period of disease (F=2.8. p= .042). 3. With regard to relationship among ADL, depression, self-efficacy and the quality of life, ADL was in a relatively low positive correlation (r= .293, p= .003) with and the quality of life, depression in a high negative correlation (r=- .634. p= .000) with the quality of life. and self-efficacy in a positive correlation with the quality of life (r= .388. p= .000). 4. Factors that made a significant influence on the quality of life were depression (8=- .309. p= .001) and satisfaction with income (8=-2.611. p= .001). Based on these results, this study made following suggestions: 1. It is necessary to run rehabilitation programs to improve stroke patients' ADL, depression and self-efficacy. 2. It is necessary to perform research of monitoring stroke patients' quality of life in various areas using measuring tools.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration 2017;23(1):42-51
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the casual relationship between nurses' social capital, job engagement and nursing performance and to verify the goodness of fit between a hypothetical model and actual data in order to suggest the best model. METHODS: This survey was conducted with 250 nurses working in 3 general hospitals in Seoul. Data were collected from June 20 to July 29, 2016 and analyzed using SPSS/WIN 21.0 and AMOS 21.0. RESULTS: Nurses' social capital and job engagement were found to have no direct effect on increasing nursing performance. But, it was found that social capital and job engagement had indirect effects on nursing performance through mediating organizational citizenship behavior. Social capital had direct effects on increasing job engagement and indirect effects on organizational citizenship behavior. CONCLUSION: Results of this study indicate that nurse managers should concentrate efforts on increasing nurses's job engagement and preparing organization to increase social capital in order to improve nursing performance.

Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamental Nursing 2004;11(3):248-255
PURPOSE: This study was done to compare the effectiveness of web based learning versus traditional education for learning foley-catheterization in Basic Nursing. METHOD: This study was a quasi-experimental research. The participants were 60 students who were taking Basic Nursing at A nursing college (3 years) in G city. Thirty students each were assigned to the experimental or control group. Data were collected between October 20 and November 4, 2003. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test and ANCOVA. RESULTS: The mean score for competence in foley-catheterization practice in the experimental group was 48.63 and in the control group, 44.67. This result was statistically significant (t=7.655, p=.001). The mean score for knowledge in the experimental group was 63.0, while for the control group, 64.0. This result was not statistically significant (t=-.330, p=.743). The mean score for confidence in learning in the experimental group was 26.70 for the pre-test and 30.73 for the post-test, and in the control group 27.93 and 28.37 respectively, but this result was not statistically significant (F=.858, p=.358). CONCLUSION: The Web based learning was found to be effective in nursing practice but not nursing knowledge. It is necessary to continue to develop approaches to teaching nursing and to evaluate these approaches with further research.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1985;21(2):276-280
A retrospective analysis of ultrasonograms of 24 patients with acute pancreatitis and 8 patients with chronicpancreatitis was performed. Nine cases were proven by surgery and 23 cases were diagnosed clinically. Generalizedpancreatic enlargement with normal in size and echogenicity was normal or slightly altered in chronicpancreatitis. Ultrasonography is considered a simple and accurate method in the diagnosis of acute pancreatitisand thus it could be an initial test in patients with suspected acute pancreatitis.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2003;44(10):2353-2357
PURPOSE: The purposes of study was to assess the expression patterns of heat shock protein 33 (HSP33) after gene transfection and to evaluate the protective effects of heat shock protein 33 from apoptosis and oxidative stress in transfected human corneal epithelial cell. METHODS: The cultured human corneal epithelial cells were divided control and experimental group. Experimental group was transfected with HSP 33. After transfection, the experimental group was treated with etoposide (induced apoptosis) and hydrogen peroxide (induced oxidative stress). The expression patterns of HSP 33 was0 examined by western blot. The viability (cell protection rate of heat shock protein) and protective effect against apoptosis after etoposide and hydrogen peroxide treatment were measured using 3-[4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. RESULTS: Expression of Heat shock protein 33 was increased in the transfection group compared with non-transfection group. The increased cell number (viability=anti-apoptotic effect of heat shock protein) of transfection group with induced HSP 33 etoposide and hydrogen peroxide treatment show that Hsp 33 appeared to have protective effect in Human corneal epithelial cell from apoptosis and oxidative stress. CONCLUSIONS: These data suggest that experimentally induced heat shock protein 33 could protect etoposide-generated apoptosis and hydreogen peroxide generated oxidative stress in human corneal epithelial cell.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2004;34(7):1164-1171
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare differences in the time when bowel sounds were heard and gas was passed in women who had an abdominal hysterectomy and were treated for 5 minutes (experimental group A) or 10 minutes (experimental group B) with San-Yin-Jiao (SP-6) acupressure. METHOD: The design of this study was a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized post test only design. The participants included 142 women, 39 in experimental group A, 30 in experimental group B, and 73 in the control group. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire which included items on general characteristics and a self report of time when gas was passed. Differences for the three groups as to time when bowel sounds were heard and gas was passed were analyzed using ANOVA. RESULT: The time when bowel sounds were heard was statistically significantly shorter in both experimental groups compared to the control group(F=10.29, p=.000). The time when gas was passed was statistically significantly shorter in experimental group B(10 min) compared to the control group(F=4.68, p=.011). CONCLUSION: It could be concluded that SP-6 acupressure of 10 minutes was effective in shortening the time until bowel sounds were heard and gas was passed for women who had had an abdominal hysterectomy. Replication of the study with a larger number of participants is necessary in order to be able to generalize the results.
