PURPOSE: This study was done to determine the effect of nursing interventions on the knowledge of cervical cancer, and health beliefs, self efficacy and rate of rescreening compliance. METHOD: This was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 93 women who had experienced cervical cancer screening in S city and were randomly assigned to the experimental or control group. Intervention tools were a screening record pocket book, phone-coach. and watching a video(17mins). The data was collected from April to December, 2003 and analyzed using an chi-square-test. t-test and ANCOVA. RESULTS: The 1st hypothesis, "The Posttest knowledge score of the experimental group will be significantly higher than that of the control group" was supported (F=11.16, p= .001). The 2nd hypothesis, "The Posttest health belief score of the experimental group will be significantly higher than that of the control group" was not supported(F=3.38, p= .069). The 3rd hypothesis, "The Posttest self efficacy score of the experimental group will be significantly higher than that of the control group" was supported(F=4.36, p= .040). The 4th hypothesis, "The Rescreening compliance rate of the experimental group after the nursing intervention will be significantly higher than that of the control group" was supported(chi-square=3.45, p= .050). CONCLUSION: This nursing intervention was effective in increasing the knowledge of cervical cancer, and self efficacy percentage of rescreening compliance. Therefore I think this intervention can be used for promoting the rescreening compliance of women.

Midtrimester genetic amniocentesis has been a gold standard for prenatal diagnosis in antenatal care since last 25 years. After the triple serum marker test was introduced as a prenatal screening method for Down syndrome, the frequency of genetic amniocentesis was increased. OBJECTIVE: To determine the complication, risk of amniocentesis and detection rate of chromosomal abnormality. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective clinical analysis of 1,064 midtrimester genetic amnicentesis in IL Sin Christian Hospital antenatal clinic from Jan 1995 to Dec 1997. Chi square test was used for the statistical analysis and p value < 0.05 was considered significant. RESULTS: Amnicentesis were significantly increased in the age of 35-39 yrs and 40yrs over. And also the incidence of chromosomal abnormality was higher than younger age group. The indications of amnicentesis were screen positive of triple marker test(43%), advanced maternal age(20.8%), abnormal beta-hCG level, past history of chromosome abnormality or malformed baby and abnormal alpha-FP level in order. Total number of chromosomal abnormalities was 30 and the incidence of chromosomal abnormalities was 2.8%(30/1,064). The complications were developed in 13 cases and fetal loss rate was 0.78%(9/1,064). CONCLUSION: The detection rate of chromosomal abnormality in midtrimester amnicentesis for prenatal diagnosis was high and relatively safe procedure but, we should be attention to more careful manipulation.

Congenital self-healing reticulohistiocytosis (CSHRH) typically presents at birth or in the first few weeks of life as a widespread eruption of cutaneous red-brown papulonodules that resolve spontaneously without involvement of other organs. While multiple lesions are common, a solitary lesion is rare. We describe a solitary type of CSHRH in a full-term, male neonate. He had an erythematous papule with a yellowish crust on the left heel without any systemic symptoms. Four weeks later, the skin lesion had disappeared spontaneously.

PURPOSE: This study is aimed at identifying factors influencing attitudes of Evidence-Based Practice among nursing students. METHODS: 202 nursing students were recruited from B city and G district. The questionnaires included critical thinking dispositions, information retrieval skills, knowledge and attitudes of Evidence-Based Practice, and characteristics. Data were analyzed by SPSS/Win 21.0 using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regressions. RESULTS: The average score of undergraduate nursing students for Evidence-Based Practice attitudes was 32.92±4.57. Evidence-Based Practice attitudes had positive correlation with critical thinking disposition (r=.53, p<.001), information retrieval skills (r=.45, p<.001) and Evidence-Based Practice knowledge (r=.42, p<.001). Factors influencing Evidence-Based Practice attitudes were critical thinking dispositions (β=.45) and Evidence-Based Practice knowledge (β=.30). Total variance was explained about 35.3% (F=55.80, p<.001). CONCLUSION: These results show that teaching strategies that enhance critical thinking dispositions are recommended to improve Evidence-Based Practice attitudes among nursing students. Also, nursing education should include a regular Evidence-Based Practice curriculum to improve Evidence-Based Practice knowledge as is necessary for students to improve information retrieval skill. Reading nursing articles can help nursing students comprehend the up-to-data evidence of clinical practice.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify whether hearing a recording of mother's voice affected physiological reactions, behavioral state related to sleep and weight of very low birth weight (VLBW) infants. METHODS: This was a nonequivalent control group pre-post test quasi-experimental design. The participants were 11 VLBW infants in the experimental group and 11 in the control group. In the experimental group, a recording of mother's voice was played to her infant by voice recorder four times each day for five minutes over 10 consecutive days in the incubator. RESULTS: For physiological response (heart rate, respiration rate, oxygen saturation), there were statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups. Behavioral state during sleep was more very quiet and quiet in the experimental group. In the daily weight change, there was no significant difference between the experimental and control groups. CONCLUSION: The findings suggest that, for VLBW infants, the intervention of hearing a recording of mother's voice had some significance as a nursing intervention having a positive impact. Such interventions can help pediatric nurses to stabilize the physiological response and maintenance more very quiet sleep state and improve VLBW infants' growth.

V. parahaemolyticus was isolated from blood culture of a 34-year old female patient with HCV viral hepatitis and liver cirrhosis. V. parahaemolyticus is one of the frequent causative agents of gastrointestinal infection, but rarely causes septicemia. This case is thought to be the 3rd report of V. parahaemolyticus septicemia in Korea.
