3.A Cohort Study of Incidence Rate and Causes of School Accidents in a Boys' Middle School in Taegu.
Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine 1987;20(2):331-340
To determine the incidence rate of school accidents and its associated factors, a cohort observation was carried out in a boys' high school of a total 2,324 students for an academic year from March 1986 to February 1987. Data for accidents were collected by the author (school nurse) as students came to the school health station for treatment of accidental injury. Data for school activities were obtained from the diary of academic affairs. A total of 603 students made 1,126 visits to the station for accidental injury during the study period that gave an average 1.9 accidents per student. The average number of visits for accidental injury per day was 5.1 and the incidence rate of accidental injury was 2.2 per 1,000 student days. Each class had about 30 accidents on the average in a year. However there were two classes that had exceptionally high incidence rate of accidents; 54 accidents in one class where 10 athletes were assigned and 58 accidents in the other class where the teacher in charge was on vacation for two months. The highest incidence rate of accident was observed in June (3.4 per 1,000 student days) and the lowest rates were in December and February (1.5 and 0.7 per 1,000 student days, respectively) and there were no appreciable difference by day of week. Accidents were caused by mischief or carelessness of students in 62.2% and by the inappropriate tools and facilities of school in 18.6%. The accidents caused by tools and facilities were mainly due to the antiquated chairs and tables. Referral rate to hospital for severe injury was three times higher in cloudy days and five times higher in rainy days than in clear days. There was almost no accident during the examination period but increased after the examination. Based on these findings, following measures are recommended to prevent school accident: disperse the athletes throughout the classes; should the teacher in charge leave the class for a long period, replace with another teacher who is familiar with the class to keep order; replace or repair the inappropriate tools and facilities; and warn the students for the risk of accident or broadcast music or let the students have light physical exercise to relieve the tension in cloudy or rainy day and after examination.

4.A Case of Early Manifested Long-term Complications in MODY(Maturity Onset Diabetes in Young) Patient.
Journal of Korean Society of Pediatric Endocrinology 1997;2(2):263-267
A 14-year old boy presented with myoclonic seizure with rightward deviation of eyeballs. Three years ago, he was diagnosed as diabetes necessitating insulin injection. At that time, his blood glucose was 448mg/dl, HbA1c 27.8%, serum C-peptide rose from 0.4 to 1.1ng/ml after glucagon, and 24 hour urine C-peptide was 6.7microg/day. Eye examination was normal. His maternal grandmother died of diabetes at 50 years old, and his mother's sister and his elder sister had NIDDM with oral hypoglycemics. But, he didn't control hyperglycemia himself since that time. On physical exam, his grasping power was decreased in right hand, and cataract was detected at the posterior pole of lenses in both eyes requiring surgery. EEG showed partial seizure disorder in left frontoparietal area, and MRI revealed cerebral infarction in left frontoparietal cortex. Sensory-motor polyneuropathy was noted in nerve conduction velocity. His neurologic symptom was improved gradually with insulin therapy, but nerve conduction velocity and MRI abnormalities did not improved after 6 months of follow-up. Although long-term diabetic complication is common in poorly controlled diabetes, very early manifested eye and nervous system complications like this case is extremely uncommon.

Traditional Chinese Drug Research & Clinical Pharmacology 1993;0(04):-
Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of Wuling Powder (WLP) on adriamycin-induced nephrotic syndrome in rats. Methods Rat models of nephrotic syndrome were established by injection of adriamycin into tail veins of rats. The rats were divided into 7 groups: group A(normal control),group B (high-dosage WLP),group C (moderate-dosage WLP),group D (low-dosage WLP),group E (hydrocortisone),group F (hydrocortisone and moderate-dosage WLP extractive) and group G (model control). The influence of 4-week treatment of WLP on 24-hour urinary protein volume, serum levels of albumin, cholesterol and triglycerides as well as pathological changes of kidney tissue were assayed. Results 24-hour urinary protein volume of group B,C,E and F were significanuly lower than that of group G;Serum albumin level of group B,C,E and F differed from that of group G; Serum albumin level of group E and F were higher than that of group B and C;Serum cholesterol level of WLP groups (group B,C,E,F) was much lower than that of group G and the difference was insignificant between group B,F and group A;As for serum triglycerides level, three WLP groups and group F differed from group E while the group G not. Conclusion WLP not only can eliminate tissue edema and decrease urinary protein volume and blood lipid content, but also can increase serum albumin levels, thus it can protect the kidney from injury. There also have been showen that a synergistic action of WLP and hydrocortisone has been shown in the treatment of nephrotic syndrome.

The Journal of the Korean Bone and Joint Tumor Society 2014;20(1):1-6
PURPOSE: To examine the expression of Connective Tissue Growth Factor (CTGF) in osteosarcoma and to evaluate its role in osteosarcoma invasion and proliferation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The mRNA expression of CTGF from 23 patient-derived osteosarcoma cell lines was examined, and the role of CTGF in cell invasion and proliferation was examined using siRNA transfection. RESULTS: The over-expression of CTGF mRNA was observed in 17 cell lines (74%). CTGF-specific siRNA transfection into SaOS-2 and MG63 cell lines resulted in efficient knockdown of CTGF expression on Western blot analysis. siRNA transfected cells showed decreased migration on Matrigel invasion assay and decreased cell proliferation on WST-1 assay. CONCLUSION: These results indicated that the CTGF expression may play an important role in osteosarcoma progression, and may be a therapeutic target of osteosarcoma.

The Korean Journal of Hepatology 1999;5(1):43-49
BACKGROUND/AIMS: The status of tumor suppression gene can be assessed indirectly by analyzing the loss of heterozygosity. Hepatoblastoma is a malignant liver tumor in childhood. To find the molecular carcinogenetic mechanism of hepatoblastoma, loss of heterozygosity (LOH) of p73, APC and p53 was studied. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Hepatoblastoma tissues from thirty-three cases were collected by lobectomy or tumorectomy. On H- stained sections, normal and tumor cells were microdissected separately and LOH analysis was perfomed using 8 markers: six of p73, one of APC and one of p53. RESULTS: Number of cases showing at least one LOH in six p73 markers was four out of twenty- six (15.4%): each LOH frequencies in D1S160, D1S170, D1S199, D1S228, D1S243 and D1S253 were in order of 7.7%, 0%, 9.1%, 0%, 12.5% and 0%. LOH frequency of APC was 41.7% and that of p53 was 13.3%. CONCLUSION: Low LOH frequency of p73 related markers indicates that p73 gene may not be implicated in carcinogenesis of hepatoblastoma.

9.Relations of Job Satisfaction with Emotional Labor, Job Stress, and Personal Resources in Home Healthcare Nurses.
Journal of Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing 2013;24(1):51-61
PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to identify effects of emotional labor, job stress and personal resources on job satisfaction in home healthcare nurses. METHODS: The subjects were 149 home healthcare nurses working for home healthcare centers at 61 hospitals. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from November 22, 2010 to February 28, 2011 and analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, Hierarchical multiple linear regression analysis. RESULTS: The mean score of emotional labor level was 4.23+/-0.95, that of job stress level 3.39+/-0.57, that of personal resources 3.38+/-0.36, and that of job satisfaction 3.31+/-0.40. There were positive correlations among emotional labor, job stress, personal resources and job satisfaction. After age, educational level, job position, and work period in home health care, and traffic accident were controlled, the variables, emotional labor (beta=-.198, p = .034) and personal resources (beta=.236, p = .005) turned out to account for 13.3% of the job satisfaction. But job stress was not a statistically significant predictor. CONCLUSION: Home healthcare nurses were needed to minimize emotional labor and revitalize personal resources in order to maintain a comparatively high level of job satisfaction. Furthermore, it is necessary to carry out systematic education and an organizational management scheme into practice.
