2.Intrapentoneal chemotherapy for malignant ascites
Journal of International Oncology 2006;0(11):-
The formation of malignant ascites is concerned with non-obstructive factors including immunity regulator(IL-2,TNF,IFN-?)and factors of inducing blood vessel penetrability(VEGF,MMP) besides obstructive factors. Intraperitoneal chemotherapy makes drug directly act on peritoneum and arrives at the aim of controlling and treating malignant ascites.

Objective To study the effect of functional mandible shift on mandible development in pubertal rats. Methods Forty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats at the age of 28 d were randomly divided into experimental group (n=24) and control group (n=24).Maxillary occlusal splints were designed to simulate mandible shift in experimental group.Six rats in each group were killed after 7,14,21,and 28 days, respectively.Right and left mandibles were removed for X-ray radiography and localizing points.Distance between the points was measured with an image analyzer. Results Fourteen days from experiment, the length parameters of the non-shifted mandible(Cd-Me,Co-Me,Go-Me)were significantly higher than those of the shifted mandible length in rats of experimental group(P

BACKGROUND: Acellular amniotic membrane used widely in treating ocular surface disease as well as extensive burn wounds due to its low antigenicity and excellent histocompatibility. However, it is poorly understood whether it can be used in repairing urethral defects.OBJECTIVE: To evaluate role and the feasibility of human acellular amniotic membrane (HAAM) in the rabbit urethral reconstruction.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: The randomized control experiment of animals was performed at the Laboratory Center of Guangxi Medical University between April and June 2007.MATERIALS: Thirty-two New Zealand rabbits were supplied by animal center of Guangxi Medical University. The human HAAM was obtained from Department of Obstetrics, First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University.METHODS: HAAM was prepared by detergent-enzymatic approach. Firstly, the fresh amniotic membrane was protected with cross linking of 1% formaldehyde- 0.2% glutaral, digested with 0.125% trypsogen- 0.05 mol/L EDTA, followed by washing with 0.5% Triton X-100. Totally 32 New Zealand male rabbits were assigned into 3 groups: experimental group (n=12), control group (n=12) and sham operation group (n=8). Rabbits were prepared for urethral defects models in the experimental and control groups, which were repaired with HAAM or anastomosised directly. There was no urethral operation in the sham operation group.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The growth of epithelial cells and smooth muscle cells, as well as inflammatory cell infiltration was observed by histopathologic examination at days 10, 21 and 42 after operation. The urethral pressure changes and urinary bladder was examined by retrograde urethrography at day 42 after operation.RESULTS: ①The prepared HAAM was translucent, there was no residual cells or fragments. ②The pathological section examination showed that in the experimental group, some epithelial cells has grown without acute rejection at day 10 after operation, and several layers of urothelium covered HAAM at day 21 with reduced inflammatory cell infiltration. At day 42, a sprinkle of smooth muscle grew in HAAM with few inflammatory cells. Urodynamic studies indicated that there were no significant difference among 3 groups in the bladder volume, maximum urethral pressure and minimum urethral pressure (P > 0.05). The weight of bladder had obvious difference between the sham operation and control groups (P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: HAAM is an ideal biomaterial with well histocompatibility, biocompatibility and low antigenicity. HAAM is a good choice for urethral reconstruction.

Objective To adopt Orem self-care model to assestt the dependency care ability of care-givers for surgery orphans and analyze its defective level of dependency case, then propose corresponding nursing policy. Methods 16 caregivers for surgery orphans were surveyed with self-made questionnaire which included the general condition of the caregivers, the nursing situation for orphans and the require-ment for dependency care ability of the caregivers. Results All questionnaires were withdrew. The pro-portion of providing correct primary care for orphans was up to 62.50%~93.75%.But the proportion of pro-viding correct rehabilitation exercises was lower than 43.75%.96% caregivers wished to obtain the relative nursing knowledge by training and improve their dependency care ability.Conclmions The caregivers' dependency care ability can meet the needs of orphans' basic dependency care. But the defect still exists, the nurses should adopt different nursing compensation for different orphans and different care defects.

Objective To investigate the expression level of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and its effects on cell proliferation activity and apoptosis in colorectal carcinoma. Methods The expression of COX-2, proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and apoptosis in 60 cases of colorectal carcinoma, 20 cases of colorectal adenoma and 20 cases of normal mucous were studied by the immunohistochemical and TUNEL methods, the apoptosis index(AI)and proliferation index(PI) were defined respectively. Results The positive expression rate of COX-2 in colorectal carcinoma was significantly higher than that in the other groups. Overexpression of COX-2 in colorectal carcinoma was related to its lymph node metastasis and the size of tumor and clinical stages. In the group with COX-2 positive expression, PI was higher than that in the group with COX-2 negative expression; whereas AI was higher in the latter group than in the former group. Conclusions The expression level of COX-2 may have a close correlation with cell proliferation and apoptosis, they may participate in oncogenesis and progression of colorectal carcinoma.

Adaptor protein ClpS is an essential regulator of prokaryotic ATP-dependent protease ClpAP, which delivers certain protein substrates with specific amino acid sequences to ClpAP for degradation. However, ClpS also functions as the inhibitor of the ClpAP-mediated protein degradation for other proteins. Here, we constructed the clpS-overexpression Mycobacterium smegmatis strain, and showed for the first time that overexpression of ClpS increased the resistance of M. smegmatis to rifampicin that is one of most widely used antibiotic drugs in treatment of tuberculosis. Using quantitative proteomic technology, we systematically analyzed effects of ClpS overexpression on changes in M. smegmatis proteome, and proposed that the increased rifampicin resistance was caused by ClpS-regulated drug sedimentation and drug metabolism. Our results indicate that the changes in degradation related proteins enhanced drug resistance and quantitative proteomic analysis is an important tool for understanding molecular mechanisms responsible for bacteria drug resistance.

International Eye Science 2006;6(1):25-26
AIM: To evaluate the changes in central corneal thickness (CCF) caused by mydriasis with Mydrin-P.METHODS: A total of 106 eyes of 53 patients with refractive errors were studied. Each eye had instillation of Mydrin-P to obtain mydriasis. CCT was examined before and after mydriasis using ultrasonic pachymeter.RESULTS: CCT increased significantly after mydriasis with Mydrin-P.CONCLUSION: Mydrin-P can affect the measurement of CCT.
