Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1995;33(3):457-463
PURPOSE: To evaluate mammographic and sonographic breast parenchymal changes and the risk of breast cancer in women on hormonal replacement therapy (HRT). MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study group consisted of 50 patients examined with serial mammograms and/or ultrasonograms during HRT. The control group consisted of 50 patients examined with serial mammogram for a routine health check. Mammographic parenchymal changes in both the study and control groups and so- nographic findings of 27/50 patients in study group were evaluated. RESULTS: Follow-up mammogram of the control group showed no interval change or slight evolution of parenchyma with increasing age, but the study group showed increasing parenchymal densities. Most frequently encountered finding on SOhogram in 11 women treated by estrogen alone, was ductal dilatation (7cases ;64%), whereas in 16 women treated by estrogen and progesteron it was ductal epithelial hyperplasia (8 cases; 50%). Overall, four breast cancers developed;one infiltrating ductal carcinoma and three ductal carcinoma in situ. CONCLUSION: HRT causes the changes of breast parenchyma on mammogram and sonogram of postmenopausal women, and increases the risk of developing breast cancer. Therefore, careful and regular examination should be followed in those on postmenopausal HRT.

Korean Journal of Radiology 2001;2(2):80-86
OBJECTIVE: To assess the potential clinical utility of in-vivo 31P magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in patients with various malignant and benign breast lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventeen patients with untreated primary malignant breast lesions (group I), eight patients with untreated benign breast lesions (group II) and seven normal breasts (group III) were included in this study. In-vivo 31P MRS was performed using a 1.5 Tesla MR scanner. Because of the characteristics of the coil, the volume of the tumor had to exceed 12 cc (3 x 2 x 2 cm), with a superoinferior diameter at least 3 cm. Mean and standard deviations of each metabolite were calculated and metabolite ratios, such as PME/PCr, PDE/PCr, T-ATP/PCr and PCr/T-ATP were calculated and statistically analyzed. RESULTS: Significant differences in PME were noted between groups I and III (p=0.0213), and between groups II and III (p=0.0213). The metabolite ratios which showed significant differences were PME/PCr (between groups II and III) (p=0.0201), PDE/PCr (between groups I and III, and between groups II and III) (p=0.0172), T-ATP/PCr (between groups II and III) (p=0.0287), and PCr/T-ATP (between groups II and III) (p=0.0287). There were no significant parameters between groups I and II. CONCLUSION: In-vivo 31P MRS is not helpful for establishing a differential diagnosis between benign and malignant breast lesions, at least with relatively large lesions greater than 3 cm in one or more dimensions.

5.THE STUDY ON THE PHYSICAL PROPERTY OF THE PERMANENT SOFT DENTURE LINERS.
The Journal of Korean Academy of Prosthodontics 1999;37(6):809-819
This study was performed to evaluate the tensile bond strength and modulus of elasticity of three permanent soft denture liners (Molloplast B , Ufi Gel C , Tokuyama ) before and after thermocycling. And their water sorption were also evaluated. Each soft denture liner was bonded to PMMA denture base resin blocks and the tensile bond strength and modulus of elasticity were measured by using universal testing machine. For the water sorption, weight measured after immersion of soft denture liners in 37+/-1degrees C water bath for 4 weeks. The results were as follows : 1. Molloplast B had the highest tensile bond strength, while Tokuyama had the lowest tensile bond strength, There was no significant difference between Tokuyama and Molloplast B in the both nonthermocycling and thermocycling. There was significant difference in tensile strength of Tokuyama before and after thermocycling(p<0.05). 2. For the modulus of elasticity, there was no significant difference between Ufi Gel C and Tokuyama in the both nonthermocycling and thermocycling. There was significant difference in modulus of elasticity of Tokuyama before and after thermocycling(p<0.05). 3. The failure modes of Molloplast B and Ufi Gel C were nainley adhesive type and that of Tokuyama was mainly mixed type in case of nonthermocycling and cohesive type after thermocycling. 4. The water sorption of each soft liners was within+/-2% in times (p<0.05) but, there was no significant difference among the soft liners in times.

7.Combined Mucinous Tumor and Carcinoid of Appendix Associated with Mucinous Tumor of Ovary and Pseudomyxoma Peritonei: A case report .
Korean Journal of Pathology 1999;33(11):1094-1096
We report a case of mucinous cystadenoma of uncertain malignant potential and carcinoid of appendix associated with bilateral mucinous cystadenoma of ovary and pseudomyxoma peritonei. The patient was a 46-year-old female. She suffered from dyspnea and lower abdominal palpable masses for several months. Ultrasonogram showed multilocular huge ovarian cysts. Appendectomy, transabdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salphingo-oophorectomy and biopsy of omentum were performed. The bilateral ovaries measured 16 11 cm and 7X5 cm in size, respectively. The both ovaries showed multilocular cysts filled with thick mucus material. The ovarian cysts were covered by a single layer of columnar epithelium with focal proliferation. Mucus materials dissected through the ovarian stroma (pseudomyxoma ovarii). The tip of appendix was dilated and covered by mucus material. The cut surface showed a cyst and a yellowish solid mass proximal to the cyst. Microscopically, the appendiceal cyst was lined by stratified columnar epithelium with moderate cytologic atypia. Mucus material dissected through the wall. In the proximal portion of the appendix, a classic carcinoid with focal tubular form was present in submucosa and muscle layer. The omentum was covered by thick mucus material. Microscopically, the omentum showed mucinous epithelium and mucus material (pseudomyxoma peritonei).

9.The treatment of bengin cutaneous tumors with carbon dioxide laser.
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1993;31(4):502-507
BACKGROUND: CO laser emiis energy in the mid portion of the infrared spectrum at a wavelengt,h of 10,600nm. The CO laser is the workhorse laser in the treatment of cuianeous disease. With water as the chromophore(light-absorbing compound), CO laser light is highy absorbed in biologic tissue. Human body tissue comprises between 75% to 90% of water. The CO laser is superficially absorbed by tissue water, with little scatter, limiting penetration into the skin to less than 0.1 mm. The beam can be delivered with a large spot size and low power density(defocus mode) or focused tightly with great power density(focused mode). AS A RESULT: the CO laser may be used both to vaporize and to cut tissue while coagulating blood vessels, providing a relatively bloodless su gical field. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the therapeutie effect of the CO laser on benign cutaneous tumors. MEHTODS: 114 cases of benign cutaneous tumors treated with the CO laser between October 1987 and September 1992 were subjected to detailed analysis, The CO later is Pizer Laser system(U.S.A., Ca) Model 20-C CO. The laser produces power output that ranges from 0 to 25 W of continuous wave. Spot size is variable, between 0.3mm and 2mm. RESULTS: 1. Angiofibromas and seborcheic keratoses showed very good response(95.3%, 92.8% ). 2. Syringomas showed a good esponse(82.8%). 3. Epidermal nevus and trichovpitheliomas showed a fair response(58.5%, 60%). 4. There were hypertrophic scars(10.5%) and transient hypopigmentation. CONCLUSION: The Co laser was a very effective modality for the treatment of benign cutaneous tumors such as angiofibromas, seborrheic keratosis and syringomas.

dong Seok NAHM ; Mi Hyang JEONG
Korean Journal of Orthodontics 1998;28(2):255-268
This study was investigated to assess the difference of facial height and occlusal plane inclination between normal occlusion group and class 11 malocclusion group. The subjects consisted of 50 normal occlusion (male 25, female 25) and 50 class II(male 25, female 25) malocclusion patients. All subjects are adult. lateral cephalogram was taken with standard method, traced, and digitized for each subjects. The computerized statiscal analysis was carried out with SPSS program. The results were as follows: 1. In class II malocclusion group, variables significant different from normal occlusion group were as follows SN-FOP, FH-BOP, MP-BOP, AB-BOP, AB-FOP, Facial plane-BOP, FP-FOP. 2. In class II malocclusion group, the posterior facial height -especially posterior lower facial height-was significantly smaller than normal occlusion group.( P < 0.05) 3. In class II malocclusion group, the angles bEStween occlusal plane and upper and lower incisor, the angle between upper molar and bisected occlusal plane we e significantly larger than those of normal occlusion group. (P < 0.05) 4. LI to Mandibular plane (mm) was a unique factor of occlusal plane position that showed significant difference in class -Il1 malocclusion group. 5. The correlation between overbite and occlusal plane inclination existed in class II malocclusion group, but the correlation didn't exist in normal occlusion group.
