The criteria for a mesenchymoma are that it should be composed of at least two mesenchymal elements not ordinarily found together in a tumor. This report dealt with two cases of benign mesenchymoma arising, one in the left thigh and the other in the left forearm. To diagnose of this tumor on X-ray preoperatively was difficult. The tumors were excised as much as possible, and mesenchymal derivatives characteristic of the tumor was described in detail.

Malignant mesenchymoma is a rare soft tissue neoplasm showing two or more separate and distinct types of malignant mesenchymal differentiation in addition to an undifferentiated sarcomatous component. Occasional cases of malignant mesenchymoma have been reported in the spermatic cord and paratesticular area. However, documented reports have been seldom found in Korea. We report a case in which there was evidence of lipo-, rhabdomyo-, osteosarcomatous differentiation in the same neoplasm with brief review of the literatures.

Joint deformity secondary to neoplastic involvement of the soft tissue has been well described and is easy to diagnose. Mesenchymema is a rare neoplasm which can arise at anyplace of the body and called as angiomyolipoma, lipomyohemangioma, fibromyxolipoma and etc. according to the composition of the various tissues. We experienoed a case of equinus deformity due to mesenchymoma of calf muscle. The patient was treated by excision and tendo calcaneus lengthening with satisfactory result.

The benign mesenchymoma, in which fibrous tissue is accompanied by two or more mesencymal components, occurs very rarely in the head and neck area. The majority appear in patients under 25 years of age, most commonly in the subcutaneous scalp, cheek, or tongue. There is a 20% recurrence rate. Wide surgical excision is the treatment of choice. We report a case of mesenchymoma in the nasopharynx which was removed by transpalatine approach with a brief review of literature.

Malignant mesenchymomas by definition are composed of two or more cellular types that would ordinarily derive from primitive mesenchyme. They grow rapidly, recur frequently, metastasize, and can be found in a wide variety of locations. Malignant mesenchymomas as primary cardiac tumor are extremely rare with poor prognosis. Only 15 cases of cardiac malignant mesenchymoma were reported in worldwide literature in 1961-1992. We report a case of primary cardiac malignant mesenchymoma in 58 year-old female patient admitted due to hemoptysis and mild exertional dyspnea.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1994;30(5):935-941
PURPOSE: To clarify the chracteristic sonographic features of benign soft tissue tumors and to evaluate the usefulness of sonographic imaging. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed ultrasonographic images of 70 cases in 68 patients with histologically proved benign soft tissue tumors. RESULTS: The tumors included 33 lipomas, 11 hemangiomas. 11 lymphangiomas, 7 neurilemmomas, 4 epidermold cysts, 2 fibromas, 1 mesenchymoma, and 1 myxoma. The SOhographic appearances of the lesions were mainly solid in 53 cases(33 lipomas, 8 hemangiomas, 2 lymphangiomas, 7 neurilemmomas, 2 fibromas and 1 mesenchymoma), mainly cystic in 14 cases(1 hemangioma, 8 lymphangiomas, 4 epidermoid cysts, and 1 myxoma), and mixed in 3 cases(2 hemangiomas and 1 lymphangioma). Although an accurate histologic prediction could not be made in most cases, certain patterns appeared to be characteristic of specific tumor types. 26 cases(78%) of lipoma were seen as lentiform, iso- or hyperechoic, solid mass. Hemangioma had variable appearance and chacteristic calcifications were seen in 3 cases. Unicameral or multiseptated cystic mass with variable thickness of echogenic septa and solid portion was the characteristic finding of lymphangioma. Neurilemmoma showed Iobulated, oval to round, relatively hypoechoic mass with or without internal cystic portion. CONCLUSION: Sonographic evaluation of benign soft tissue tumros is useful in demonstrating the location, size, extent, and internal characteristics of the mass. A relatively confident diagnosis can be made when the characteristic features of the benign soft tissue tumor are present on sonographic imaging.
