Through several thousand years’ inheritance and development by Chinese people, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has formed its unique theoretic system, whose efficacy has been widely accepted. However, because TCM theory focuses on the relationships among syndromes, treatment and efficacy, instead of the cause-and-effect relationship explored by modern natural science, the scientificity of TCM has always been questioned. In recent years, because virtual-world clinical research mode and the concept of “big data” were emphasized, increasing researchers began to put their research emphasis on the correlativity between intervening measures of diseases and outcome indicators. This change and the advancement of computer data mining and analysis technology, bring great opportunities for the further development of TCM theory and practice. This article concluded data mining technology used in TCM diagnosis and treatment in recent years, such as clustering analysis, decision tree, Bayesian network, neural network and multi-instance learning, which showed how to apply these methods to reveal rules of TCM diagnosis and treatment from a large number of TCM syndrome data, find knowledge hidden in data, and show TCM effectiveness supported by data.

Objectives:
. The annual prevalence of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is increasing, and the lack of effective treatments imposes a substantial burden on both patients and society. The formation of nasal polyps in patients with CRS is closely related to tissue remodeling, which is largely driven by the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). MicroRNA (miRNA) plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of numerous diseases through the miRNA-mRNA regulatory network; however, the specific mechanism of the miRNAs involved in the formation of nasal polyps remains unclear.
Methods:
. The expression of EMT markers and Smad3 were detected using western blots, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, and immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining. Differentially expressed genes in nasal polyps and normal tissues were screened through the Gene Expression Omnibus database. To predict the target genes of miR-145-5p, three different miRNA target prediction databases were used. The migratory ability of cells was evaluated using cell migration assay and wound healing assays.
Results:
. miR-145-5p was associated with the EMT process and was significantly downregulated in nasal polyp tissues. In vitro experiments revealed that the downregulation of miR-145-5p promoted EMT. Conversely, increasing miR-145-5p levels reversed the EMT induced by transforming growth factor-β1. Bioinformatics analysis suggested that miR-145-5p targets Smad3. Subsequent experiments confirmed that miR-145-5p inhibits Smad3 expression.
Conclusion
. Overall, miR-145-5p is a promising target to inhibit nasal polyp formation, and the findings of this study provide a theoretical basis for nanoparticle-mediated miR-145-5p delivery for the treatment of nasal polyps.

Objective To compare the hemostatic safety and efficacy of a new butterfly femoral artery compression device (FACD) with those of manual compression (MC) in patients undergoing percutaneous peripheral endovascular interventions via femoral artery. Methods A total of 283 patients, who received percutaneous endovascular interventions via femoral artery during the period from September 2016 to December 2017, were enrolled in this study. After endovascular intervention, 167 patients received FACD to make hemostasis (FACD group), and 116 patients received MC hemostasis (MC group) . The patient's comfortableness, time used for hemostasis (min), limb immobilization time (h), and the incidence of vascular complications in both groups were analyzed. Results All 283 patients were included in analysis, the results indicated that the hemostatic success rates in FACD group and MC group were 96.4% (161/167) and 94.0% (109/116) respectively, the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant (P>0.05) . The postoperative Kolcaba Comfort Scale score of FACD group was (85.0 ±11.2) points, which was remarkably higher than (58.4±11.7) points of MC group (P<0.05), the time used for hemostasis in FACD group was (9.2 ±2.2) min, which was strikingly shorter than (18.5 ±2.9) min in MC group (P <0.05) . The limb immobilization time in FACD group was (10.4±2.4) hours, which was obviously shorter than (23.1±4.1) hours in MC group (P <0.05) . The incidence of vascular complications in FACD group was 3.6%, which was dramatically lower than 9.5% in MC group (χ2=4.206, P=0.04) . Conclusion The use of the new butterfly FACD can promptly, safely and effectively stop bleeding of femoral artery puncture site. The new butterfly FACD is superior to MC in shortening hemostatic time and limb immobilization time, in reducing incidence of vascular complications, as well as in improving patient's comfortableness degree.

Bacterial resistance is a serious problem in use of antibiotics and an urgent global public health challenge. The drug-resistant bacteria and drug-resistant genes carried by migratory birds are not only related to clinical antibiotics, but also the use of pesticides and veterinary drugs as well as the pollution of the surrounding environment of drug factories. However, studies on drug-resistant genes carried in migratory birds have been gradually reported around the world. Migratory birds have the characteristics of large range of movement and long flight distance, which leads to the complexity of bacterial resistance. Under the influence of environment and human activities, drug-resistant genes carried in bacteria are transmitted among species, human beings, domestic animals, environment and wild birds through mobile elements. This study summarizes the current situation of antibiotic resistance bacteria carried by migratory birds, the status of drug-resistant genes in migratory birds and the relationship between the resistance of migratory birds and the environment and human activities. The aim is to better understand the important role of migratory birds as hosts and vectors in the global spread of antibiotic resistance.
