1.Advances in research on small intestinal injuries caused by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and its prevention and treatment

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are clinically used with common gastrointestinal adverse reactions, among which NSAIDs-induced small intestinal injuries (NSIs) are manifested in the appearance of jejunum and ileal mucosa erythema, erosion, ulcer, hemorrhage, intestinal wall perforation and obstruction et al..The pathological mechanisms of NSIs are complex, with a lack of effective prevention or treatment methods.This review summarizes the research progress of the pathological mechanisms of NSIs as well as the prevention and treatment of NSIs by misoprostol, mucosal protective agents, antibiotics and probiotics, traditional Chinese medicines and their active ingredients, nutritional supplements and other drugs in the past five years, in order to provide reference and basis for the research and development of new NSIs drugs.
2.Establishment of an intestinal organoid-based method to investigate the radiation mitigation effect of Epiregulin

Objective To establish an intestinal organoid-based assay to investigate the radiation mitigation effect of epiregulin in vitro. Methods Intestinal crypts were released from tissue incubated with EDTA. Intestinal crypts seeded in 3D matrigel were irradiated at 24 h after plating. The radiation mitigation effect of epiregulin was evaluated by measuring the survival rate, size and budding numbers of the organoid after irradiation, and the basic FGF was used as a positive control of epiregulin. Results Radiation-induced lethality and dose-dependent survival curve of the intestinal organoid were consistent with in vivo data. Treatment with epiregulin (400 ng/ml) at 24 h post-radiation significantly increased survival rate of 8 Gy X-ray irradiated intestinal organoid in comparison with non-treated group [(12.56 ± 1.02)%vs. (4.73 ± 0.38)%, t=12.43,P<0.05]. Conclusions Epiregulin has radiation mitigation effect on intestinal organoid and could serve as a potential medical countermeasure to mitigate gastrointestinal toxicity.
3.Effects of scutellaria on the proliferation and migration of cervical cancer cells through miRNA-496 and stromal cell-derived factor 1

Objective:To explore the effects of scutellarein on the cell proliferation and migration of cervical cancer cell line HCC94 through miRNA-496 (miR-496) and stromal cell-derived factor 1 (SDF-1).Methods:HCC94 cells in the logarithmic growth phase were taken as objects, and 20 μmol/L scutellarin solution (scutellarin group) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) (control group) were added respectively. The CCK-8 method and Transwell experiment were used to detect the proliferation and migration ability of the two groups of HCC94 cells. The relative expression levels of miR-496 and SDF-1 mRNA were detected by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The target gene of miR-496 was predicted by the bioinformatics software TarBase and verified by the dual-luciferase reporter gene assay. Western blot was used to detect the expression of related proteins.Results:Compared with the control group, the proliferation ability of HCC94 cells in the scutellarin group was decreased on the 3rd, 4th and 5th day of culture (all P < 0.05). The number of HCC94 cells in the scutellarin group and the control group were 25±5 and 134±19, respectively, and the cell migration ability of the scutellarin group was lower than that of the control group ( t = 5.61, P < 0.01). The relative expressions of miR-496 in the control group and the scutellarin group were 1.07±0.12 and 11.24±2.75, respectively, and the difference was statistically significant ( t = 3.68, P < 0.01). The dual-luciferase reporter gene assay confirmed that SDF-1 was the downstream targeted gene of miR-496. The relative expressions of SDF-1 mRNA in the scutellarin group and the control group were 0.29±0.05 and 1.01±0.07, respectively, and the difference was statistically significant ( t = 7.22, P < 0.01). Compared with the control group, after scutellarin promoted the expression of miR-496, the expressions of SDF-1 protein, the cell proliferation protein cyclin-dependent kinase 3 (CDK3) and the cell migration proteins Slug and Zeb-2 were decreased. Conclusions:Scutellarin could inhibit the proliferation and migration of cervical cancer HCC94 cells through the miR-496-SDF-1 axis.
4.Introduction to Guidelines for public health protection against high temperature and heatwaves

In recent years, the high temperature and heatwaves have seriously affected the health of Chinese residents, and there is an important need for public health protection guidelines for high temperature and heatwaves in China. The National Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention has organized experts to fully investigate the evidence from epidemiological research on the health of populations in high temperature and heatwaves globally and in China, analyze the health hazards and protection needs of different populations, and put forward practical and effective individual protection measures and health recommendations. For this reason, the "Guideline for Public Health Protection against High Temperature and Heatwaves" (referred to as the "Guideline") was officially issued in June 2023. This article interprets the background and significance of the Guideline, the principles of compilation, the main considerations, the main contents, the implementations and promotions and other aspects, to improve the understanding of the content of the Guideline and strengthen the publicity and implementations.
