To investigate if ginkgo biloba extract (Egb-761) can improve tardive dyskinesia (TD) symptoms through increasing the activity of plasma MnSOD. Methods We enrolled a total of 384 schizophrenia patients including 157 TD patients and 227 non-TD patients, as well as 280 normal subjects. The difference of MnSOD level in plasma among these groups were compared. TD patients were then randomly divided into two groups. The treatment group (n=77) and the placebo group (n=75) were treated with 240 mg of Egb-761 or placebo per day for 12 weeks, respectively. The abnormal involuntary movement scale (AIMS) and the positive and negative symptoms scale (PANSS) were used to evaluate the severity of the symptoms in baseline, the sixth week and the twelfth week after treatment. The level of MnSOD activity in plasma was also detected before and after the treatment. Results The level of MnSOD activity was lower in schizophrenia groups than in healthy control group (P<0.01). In addition, the level of MnSOD activity was significantly lower in TD group than in non-TD group (P<0.05). Repeated measures analysis of variance showed that group effect (F=4.00, P=0.05), time effect (F=32.17, P<0.01) and interactive effect of group and time (F=39.04, P<0.01) were significant in AIMS total score. The AIMS total score of treatment group was significantly lower than that of placebo group at 6-week and 12-week time points (all P<0.01). Repeated measures analysis of variance showed that time effect (F=23.04, P<0.01) and interactive effect of group and time (F=6.41, P<0.05) were significant in the level of MnSOD activity. In addition, the level of MnSOD at baseline was significantly correlated with the reduction of AIMS total score during the treatment period (r=0.27, P=0.018). Conclusion Treatment of Egb-761 can improve symptoms of TD and activity of MnSOD.

Chaenomelis Fructus is a traditional medicinal material derived from dry near-mature fruit of Chaenomeles speciosa (Sweet) Nakai. Chaenomelis Fructus has efficacy of leveling liver and relaxing tendons, harmonizing the stomach and resolving dampness. As the limit of the usage of available forest land, cultivated ginseng in the farmland would become the mainly Chaenomelis Fructus planting mode, meanwhile the non-polluted production technology would be the mainly development direction in the future. In this study, the non-polluted cultivation technology system of Chaenomelis Fructus was established based on the research results of field investigation in the cultivated regions. The system includes suitable planting regions selecting, planting method, field management, pest control and quality control. In order to promote the healthy and sustainable development of the cropland industry of Chaenomelis Fructus, the new varieties of good quality cultivated in farmland and the comprehensive prevention and control platform of disease and insect pest are put forward in this paper.

West China Journal of Stomatology 2023;41(4):443-449
OBJECTIVES:
To investigate the effect of different soft-tissue morphologies on the treatment of skeletal class Ⅰ malocclusion patients by analyzing measurement data before and after treatment.
METHODS:
Pre- and post-treatment lateral cephalograms of 55 adult female Angle class Ⅰ patients were collected in the Department of Orthodontics, Hospital of Stomatology, Jilin University from January 2012 to December 2020. Chin soft-tissue morphologies in the lateral cranial radiographs were used to divide the patients into an abnormal chin morphology group (flat and retracted chins, n=27) and a normal chin morphology group (rounded and prominent chins, n=28). Relevant soft- and hard-tissue indexes were selected to study in-group varieties and intergroup differences in the varying chin morphologies before and after treatment.
RESULTS:
The chin-lip angle, mandibular chin angle, mandibular chin vertex angle, PP-MP, LL-E, UL-E, Po-Pos, and B-B' thickness in the abnormal chin morphology group were significantly higher than those in the normal chin morphology group (P<0.05). Furthermore, m∶BMe and n∶B'Mes in the abnormal chin morphology group were signi-ficantly lower than those in the normal chin morphology group (P<0.05). After treatment, the mandibular chin angle, mandibular chin vertex angle, U1-SN, L1-MP, LL-E, UL-E, SNA, SNB, and B-B' thickness of the abnormal chin morphology group significantly decreased (P<0.05), whereas the nasolabial angle, m∶BMe, n∶B' Mes, and Po-Pos significantly increased (P<0.05). In the normal chin morphology group, the U1-SN, L1-MP, LL-E, UL-E, and B-B' thicknesses decreased significantly (P<0.05), whereas the nasolabial angle significantly increased (P<0.05). Among them, m∶BMe and n∶B' Mes were positively correlated.
CONCLUSIONS
Chin morphology affects the formulation of treatment plans. Compared with the normal chin morphology group, the abnormal chin morphology group required a larger retraction of incisors. Although the chin of soft-tissue morphology is related to the morphology of bones, the changes in soft tissue chin after treatment cannot be directly predicted according to the bone changes. Soft-tissue chin morphology affects the aesthetic assessment of the soft-tissue lateral profile and the change in soft tissue before and after treatment. The method of predicting the change in soft-tissue chin after treatment should consider the morphology of the soft-tissue chin.

Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2018;38(7):757-760
It was to introduce professor 's experience in the treatment of oculomotor nerve palsy with acupuncture based on the interactions of twelve muscle regions and opposing needling theory. In the treatment, the TCM syndrome differentiation is taken as the general principle, the theory of the interactions of twelve muscle regions and opposing needling as the specific feature. The contrary needling is used at Hanyan (GB 4) and Juliao (ST 3) on the healthy side. The meridian-collateral and the exterior-interior differentiations are adopted to identify the syndromes. At the early stage of the disease, the treating principle focuses on expelling wind, eliminating cold and promoting the circulations of meridians and collaterals. The shallow needling, less acupoints and gentle stimulation are required. At the middle and late stage, the treating principle concentrates on strengthening the antipathogenic and harmonizing and blood. The deep needling, the multiple acupoints and the strong stimulation are applied. Additionally, the four-needling technique at Fengchi (GB 20), the multiple shallow needling at the eyelid margin, the opposing needling and the quantity of needling sensation are used in combination, which were developed by professor . With those comprehensivemethods, the symptoms of oculomotor nerve palsy are relieved and the significant clinical therapeutic effects achieved.

Developing new therapeutic agents for cancer immunotherapy is highly demanding due to the low response ratio of PD-1/PD-L1 blockade in cancer patients. Here, we discovered that the novel immune checkpoint VISTA is highly expressed on a variety of tumor-infiltrating immune cells, especially myeloid derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and CD8+ T cells. Then, peptide C1 with binding affinity to VISTA was developed by phage displayed bio-panning technique, and its mutant peptide VS3 was obtained by molecular docking based mutation. Peptide VS3 could bind VISTA with high affinity and block its interaction with ligand PSGL-1 under acidic condition, and elicit anti-tumor activity in vivo. The peptide DVS3-Pal was further designed by d-amino acid substitution and fatty acid modification, which exhibited strong proteolytic stability and significant anti-tumor activity through enhancing CD8+ T cell function and decreasing MDSCs infiltration. This is the first study to develop peptides to block VISTA/PSGL-1 interaction, which could act as promising candidates for cancer immunotherapy.

Acta Universitatis Medicinalis Anhui 2024;59(6):988-993
Objective :
To investigate the effect of growth hormone (GH) pretreatment on the improvement of euploid and pregnancy outcome .
Methods :
A prospective analysis was conducted on 134 patients undergoing preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy(PGT⁃A) , among whom 30 patients were self⁃controlled and 104 patients were inter⁃group controlled . According to whether GH was added , the patients were divided into GH pretreatment group and GH non⁃pretreatment group . GH pretreatment included subcutaneous injection of GH 2U/day for 4 - 6 weeks before the start of gonadotropin (Gn) , and the dose was doubled on the day of Gn until the trigger day . GH non⁃pretreatment meant no GH treatment , GH pretreatment was given when the previous PGT⁃A cycle failed within one year when the PGT⁃A was performed again , forming the self⁃control group . The basic situation , blastocyst situation and pregnancy outcome were compared between the groups by inter⁃group and self⁃control .
Results :
No matter in the group control or self⁃controlled group , the endometrial thickness on the day of HCG , ovarian sensitivity index ( OSI) , number of oocytes obtained , MII oocytes , 2PN number , 2PN fertilization rate , available oocyte rate , number of biopsy blastocysts , number of euploid blastocysts , euploid blastocyst rate , and at least one euploid rate significantly increased after GH pretreatment , with statistically significant differences (P < 0. 05) . The total amount of Gn , Gn days , number of mosaic blastocysts , and mosaic blastocyst rate were not significantly changed after GH pretreatment , with no statistically significant differences . The implantation rate and clinical pregnancy rate increased after GH pretreatment , but with no statistically significant differences .
Conclusion
GH pretreatment can significantly improve the number and rate of euploid embryos in patients undergoing PGT⁃A , and has a tendency to improve pregnancy outcome .
