Cancer Research and Clinic 2016;28(2):132-136
The invasion and metastasis of tumor as the primary cause of death in cancer increases not only the patient's suffering, but also the difficulty of clinical treatment. It is an important guiding to find the molecular biological tumor markers and gene targets of antirecurrence and antimetastasis for clinical treatment. The invasion and metastasis of tumor is a complex process including the biological characteristics of the cancer, interaction among host cells, extracellular matrix and cancer cells, etc. Recently, epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) is becoming a hot spot in oncology research by virtue of its effect on genesis and development of tumor. Currently, the known markers of EMT include epithelial marker proteins mainly containing E-cadherin and interstitial marker proteins mainly containing N-cadherin and vimentin. It is necessary to make a summary among the studies on three proteins.

BACKGROUND:Epimedium has been used in the treatment of osteoporosis and repair of bone defects. OBJECTIVE:To explore the effects of epimedium on the osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells.
METHODS:A database search was performed to retrieve literatures addressing epimedium effects on the osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. Then, the papers meeting the criteria were selected for in-depth analysis. During the osteogenic differentiation induced by epimedium, alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin, osteopontin, transforming growth factorβ, bone morphogenetic proteins, osteocalcin, bone sialoprotein were detected in the bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells to understand the underlying mechanism of epimedium in proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Epimedium effects on bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells are shown in a dose-dependent manner. During the early induction, icari n can increase cellphosphatase activity;in the late induction, icari n can increase calcified nodules, promote osteocalcin secretion, significantly improve the expressions of transforming growth factorβ1, bone morphogenetic protein 2, insulin-like growth factor-1, osteopontin and bone sialoprotein. Epimedium, which can be used as an excellent osteoinductive factor, improves the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells.

Objective:To investigate the effects of sinomenine(SIN)on the activation and function of T-cells from SLE patients and to elucidate the mechanisms for the immunosuppressive effect of SIN.Methods:PBMCs were isolated from SLE patients and stimulated with anti-CD3 in the presence or absence of different concentrations of SIN.The cytokines were measured by ELISIA,and the activation and function of T-cells were analyzed by flow cytometry. Results:SIN could inhibit IFN-?,IL-2 and IL-4 production of T cells in SLE patients' peripheral blood. In addition,SIN could significantly inhibit the expression of activation molecules CD69 and CD25 by CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. Conclusion:SIN could inhibit immune responses of SLE patients by suppressing T cells activation and cytokine secretion.

BACKGROUND:Drug treatment is the main method for the treatment of diabetes currently, but the development of the disease and occurrence of related complications are the chal enges to the effect of drugs. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect and feasibility of co-transplantation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and islet cells for the treatment of diabetes. METHODS:The rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were separated and purified, and cultured in vitro to establish the diabetes models. The rat diabetes models were injected with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, co-cultured mixture of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and islet cells, and normal saline or phosphate buffer (control). The effect of transplantation was evaluated through observing the blood glucose levels, insulin secretion, and pathological changes of pancreatic tissue in the rat diabetes models. RESUTLS AND CONCLUSION:In the diabetes rats treated with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel transplantation, the C-peptide levels were significantly increased after transplantation, while the blood glucose levels were significantly decreased, but not lower than the normal level, and the blood glucose levels were increased again with the time prolonging. In the diabetes rats treated with co-transplantation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and islet cells, the blood glucose levels were decreased significantly and lower than the normal level which was maintained in a certain time, and the decreasing degree was larger than that in the rats treated with simple bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel transplantation. Co-transplantation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and islet cells is feasible for the treatment of diabetes with a certain effect.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2013;(44):7803-7808
BACKGROUND:Diabetes mel itus is a common complication after kidney transplantation. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the risk factors for diabetes mel itus after kidney transplantation diabetes mel itus risk factors and clinical treatment based on integrative medicine. METHODS:Literatures concerning diabetes mel itus after kidney transplantation were retrieved in the database, and the articles that met the study criteria were analyzed. In this paper, we analyzed the risk factors for diabetes mel itus and concluded the therapies for diabetes mel itus after kidney transplantation. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Diabetes mel itus after kidney transplantation is an abnormal glucose metabolism caused by multiple factors, which is related to age, body mass index, lipid levels, immunosuppressant program, frequency of acute rejections, and cumulative dose of glucocorticoid. Periodic monitoring of blood glucose after kidney transplantation contributes to the earlier detection of the occurrence of diabetes mel itus. Integrative medicines that can lower blood glucose level and immunosuppressant adjustment can be effective for the treatment of diabetes mel itus after kidney transplantation.

Chinese Journal of Geriatrics 2017;36(8):854-857
Objective To investigate the incidence and outcome of hyponatremia in patients with severe dementia. Methods Dementia patients were retrospectively analyzed in 80 cases, including 45 patients with severe dementia complicating 30 cases of hyponatremia, and 35 patients with mild and moderate dementia complicating 5 cases of hyponatremia. The incidence rate of dementia patients complicating hyponatremia and its fatality rate were analyzed by x2 tests. The effect of dementia severity on hyponatremia and fatality rate was studied. Results The incidence rate of hyponatremia was higher in severe dementia patients (30 cases,66.7 %) than in mild-moderate dementia patients (5 cases,14.3 %) (x2 =21.95,P < 0.01).The fatality rate of hyponatremia in severe dementia patients was higher(43.3%)than in patients with normal serum sodium(33.3 %)(x2=0.25,P>0.05).Conclusions Hyponatremia is more likely to occur in patients with severe dementia. However, hyponatremia does not affect survival time in the severe dementia patients.
