Gindenosides are the active ingredients of Panax ginseng. 20 (S) -protopanaxadiolocotillol type epimers are the main metabolites of 20 (S) -protopanaxadiol. The previous studies showed that there are stereoselectivity difference in pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics between 24R-epimer and 24S-epimer. The purpose of this study was to explore the excretion of the epimers in bile, feces and urine of rat. Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry method has been performed for determination of 24R-epimer and 24S-epimer in bile, feces and urine. 24R-epimer or 24S-epimer was intragastric administered to rats at a single dose of 10 mg x kg(-1). Results showed that after administration the recovery of 24R-epimer and 24S-epimer in feces was 17.69% and 17.09%, respectively, while both of the two epimers were hardly detected in urine. The 48 h cumulative biliary excretion rate of 24R-epimer was 8.01% after administration, while only 1.47% for 24S-epimer. It indicated that there are stereoselectivity in biliary excretion of the epimers with intragastric administration.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2009;13(24):4783-4786
BACKGROUND: It has been thought that posterior cervical decompression increases the risk of cervical instability and the stress on posterior longitudinal ligament may change growth factor expression in vivo. However, the association between BMP-4 expression and heterotopic bone formation has not been confirmed. Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP-4) is one of factors that can lead to heterotopic bone formation alone.OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of posterior cervical decompression on BMP-4 mRNA expression in the posterior longitudinal ligament.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A randomized controlled animal experiment was performed in Taishan Medical College between January 2005 and December 2006.MATERIALS: A total of 48 adult Sprague Dawley rats of either gender and of clean grade, weighing 270-350 g, were included in this study.METHODS: All rats were randomly and evenly divided into 3 groups: experimental, sham-operated, and blank control. In the experimental group, C36 laminectomy for decompression was performed. In the sham-operated group: only skin incision was made. Rats in the blank control group received no any treatment. Four rats were allocated for each time point (1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks post-surgery) for harvesting posterior longitudinal ligament.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Detection of BMP-4 mRNA expression in the cervical posterior longitudinal ligament by semi-quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction.RESULTS: In the experimental group, obvious BMP-4 mRNA expression was found at 1-8 weeks post-surgery. While no BMP-4 mRNA expression was found at all times in the sham-operated and blank control groups.CONCLUSION: Posterior cervical decompression can increase BMP-4 mRNA expression in the posterior longitudinal ligament.Endogenous BMP-4 may contribute to ligamentous ossification and development post-surgery.

A canthopanax Senticosus , a vulnerable species, was one of the major government-protected plants. This paper deals with the major reason for wildlife resources from biological standpoints, which are sexual propagation with less capability , vegetative propagation being damaged due to leaves , roots and rhizomes being gathered un-reasonable. Raising wildlife resources, semi-wild extensive management, and reasonable gatheration will be an important means for protection of wildlife resources in light of local conditions.

Objective To evaluate the effect of tranexamic acid on the risk of venous thrombosis after operation in patients undergoing revision total hip arthroplasty. Methods Fifty-six ASA physical status Ⅰ or Ⅱ patients of both sexes, aged 35-64 yr,with body mass index of 20-25 kg/m2,scheduled for elective revision total hip arthroplasty, were randomly divided into 2 groups (n =28 each):control group (group C) and tranexamic acid group (group T).After induction of anesthesia, the patients were tracheally intubated and mechanically ventilated. After intubation, tranexamic acid 15 mg/kg was injected intravenously followed by infusion at a rate of 10 mg·kg-1 ·h-1 in group T,while the equal volume of normal saline was given instead of tranexamic acid in group C.Before operation,at the end of operation, and at 6 and 24 h after operation, venous blood samples were obtained for routine blood test and for determination of parameters of coagulation. The intraoperative blood loss and blood salvage, volume of drainage within 24 h after operation and transfusion of allogeneic blood were recorded. The development of venous thrombosis in the lower extremity was recorded with Doppler ultrasound on 7th day after operation. Results Compared with group C,the intraoperative blood loss and blood salvage, volume of drainage within 24 h after operation and transfusion of allogeneic blood were significantly reduced, and hemoglobin and hematocrit were increased at the end of operation and different time points after operation (P < 0.05),and no significant changes were found in activated partial thromboplastin time, prothrombin time and fibrinogen in group T (P > 0.05).The incidence of venous thrombosis in the lower extremity was 18% and 14% in C and T groups, respectively, and there was no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05).Conclusion Tanexamic acid infused at a rate of 10 mg· kg-1 · h-1 after a loading dose of 15 mg/kg injected during operation dose not increase the risk of venous thrombosis after operation in patients undergoing revision total hip arthroplasty.

OBJECTIVETo establish the quality standard of Entadae Semen, and provide scientific basis for its quality control.
METHODTLC and HPLC were used for qualitative identification and quantitative analysis of phaseoloidin and entadamide A-O-β-D-glucopyranoside in Entadae Semen. The test of water content, ash and ethanol-soluble extractives of Entadae Semen was carried out according to the methods recorded in appendix of Chinese Pharmacopeia (2010 edition).
RESULTThe TLC was well separated with clear spots. The linear range of phaseoloidin was between 0.014 to 2.747 g x L(-1) (r = 0.999 6, n = 9) with an average recovery rate of 101.06% (RSD 0.90%, n = 6); the linear range of entadamide A-O-β-D-glucopyranoside was between 0.002 to 0.452 g x L(-1) (r = 0.999 7, n = 9) withan average recovery rate of 101.52% (RSD 1.09%, n = 6). The content of phaseoloidin in sample is between 5.12% to 9.24%, entadamide A-O-β-D-glucopyranoside is between 0.55% to 2.17%, alcohol-soluble extracts is between 30.9% to 45.2%, water is between 6.6% to 8.6%, and total ash is between 2.4% to 2.9%.
CONCLUSIONThe established standard is acceptable for quality control of Entadae Semen.
