Objective To determine the contributions of main chemical compositions of extracts of Eucalyptus camaldulensis represented by GC/MS elute peaks to the molluscicidal activities, and explore a shortcut of looking for the effective components from natural products. Methods E. camaldulensis leaves were collected consecutively in 12 months at the same place, extracted with dichloromethane, analyzed by GC/MS,and their LC50(s)of molluscicidal activities were tested according to the method rec-ommended by WHO. The correlation of the main components in 12 extracts and their molluscicidal activities were analyzed by the grey relative correlation analysis model with software GTMS 3.0. Result All the dichloromethane extracts of eucalyptus leaves showed excellent molluscicidal activities with the highest LC50 of 0.257mg/L and 0.242mg/L for the samples in June and July and the lowest LC50 of 6.802 mg/L and 5.406 mg/L in December and January respectively. The structures of 16 main chemical compo-nents were elucidated by GC/MS and NIST Mass Spectral Library, most of which were monoterpenes and sesquiterpenoids. The gray correlation coefficients with activity were all over 0.5,the first five over 0.9 were 4,4,8-Trimethyltricyclo[6.3.1.0(1,5)]do-decane-2,9-diol,(-)-Spathulenol,a structural isomer of(-)-Spathulenol,Eucalyptol and Ledol. Conclusion The most main in-gredients in the dichloromethane extracts of E. camaldulensis leaves show good correlations with the molluscicidal activity, which suggests that the molluscicidal role is synergistically played by the multiple components together.

Materials and Methods Seven cases of special types of breast malignant tumors confirmed by pathology were retrospectively investigated by ultrasound. The sonographic and histological features of the lesions were reviewed. The ultrasonogram manifestations of the breast anatomy and the lesions were observed and recorded. Results Among 7 cases, there were 2 cases of papillary carcinoma, 3 cases of mucinous carcinoma, and 2 cases of lymphoma. Microscopically, the papillary carcinoma had clear boundaries with infringing mesenchyme, and the tissues were papillary and dense. The mucinous carcinoma had cancer cells floated in mucus lake. The primary breast lymphoma was diffused large B-cell type with focal lesion. For sonography type of breast, there were 3 cases of fatty types, 1 case of fibroglandular-1 and 3 cases of fibroglandular-2. The papillary carcinoma was hypoechoic in 2 cases, one of them was expansive growth with large size. Two cases of mucinous carcinoma were hypoechoic without accompanying sound attenuation in 1 case and with accompanying acoustic shadow due to calcification in the other case. Lymphoma was apparent anechoic and cystoid. Conclusion Special types of breast malignancies have different sonographic features and histological features from the common invasive ductal carcinoma. It has high clinical significance to enhance the understanding of rare malignant breast tumors.

Penaeidin-2 (Pen-2) is an important antimicrobial peptide derived from the Pacific white shrimp, Penaeus vannamei, and possesses both antibacterial and antifungal activities. Recent studies suggest that recombinant penaeidins show similar activities to the native Pen-2 protein. Previous researches have shown that some antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) exhibit cytotoxic activity against cancer cells. To date, there have been no studies on the antitumor effects of Pen-2. This study evaluated the potential of recombinant pen-2 (rPen-2) in the selective killing of kidney cancer cell lines ACHN and A498, and its action mechanism. MTT assays found the maximal growth inhibition of HK-2, ACHN and A498 cells treated with 100 μg/mL rPen-2 at 48 h was 13.2%, 62.4%, and 70.4%, respectively. DNA-specific fluorescent dye staining showed a high percentage of apoptosis on cancer cells. Flow cytometry revealed that the apoptosis rate of HK-2, ACHN and A498 cells was 15.2%, 55.2%, and 61.5% at 48 h respectively, suggesting that rPen-2 induced higher apoptosis rate in cancer cells than in HK-2 cells. Laser confocal scanning microscopy demonstrated that the plasma membrane was the key site where rPen-2 interacted with and destroyed tumor cells. Scanning electron microscopy showed the morphologic changes of the cell membranes of kidney cancer cells treated with rPen-2. These results suggest that rPen-2 is a novel potential therapeutic agent that may be useful in treating kidney cancers.
