Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 2011;31(5):576-579
Objective To investigate the role of central and peripheral sensitization in remifentanil-induced hyperalgesia in a rat model of inflammatory pain. Methods Twenty-one male SD rats weighing 200-300 g were used in this study. Inflammatory pain was induced by intraplantar injection of 1 % carrageenan 100 fd in the left hindpaw in all animals. The animals were then randomly divided into 3 groups ( n = 7 each): control group (group C) and two remifentanil groups (group R1 , R2) . In R1 and R2 groups remifentanil was infused iv at a rate of 10 and 30 μg-kg-1·min-2 respectively starting from 5 min before till 25 min after carrageenan injection, while in group C normal saline was infused iv instead of remifentanil. Bilateral paw withdrawal threshold to mechanical stimulation with von Frey filament (PWT) was measured before (baseline) and at 1 h, 3 h and 1-7 d after carrageenan injection. Bilateral paw withdrawal latency to noxious thermal stimuli (PWL) was measured before and at 2 h, 4 h and 1-7 d after carrageenan injection. The thickness of the plantar surface of left hindpaw was measured before and at 1 h, 4 h and 1-7 d after carrageenan injection. Results Bilateral PWT was significantly lower at day 1 after carrageenan injection in R, and R2 groups than in group C. The right PWT was significantly lower at 2 d and 4-7 d after carrageenan injection in group R2 than in group R, . There was no significant difference in PWL and thickness of the plantar surface of left hindpaw among the 3 groups. Conclusion Central sensitization is involved in developing and maintaining the remifentanil-induced hyperalgesia in a rat model of inflammatory pain, while peripheral sensitization is not.

Chinese Journal of Medical Physics 2010;27(2):1726-1730
Objective: An automatic seamless stitching method with spinal X-ray image sequence is presented in this paper. Methods: First, biorthogonal wavelet transform is used to implement decomposing of the multi-resolution and the effective edge of the image can be extracted by this method combined with Canny operator. The feature points of the image can be obtained by calculating the edge contour matrix E and the value matrix H. Second, the roughly matching of feature points can be achieved by using Normalized Cross Correlation (NCC) algorithm and the random sample consensus (RANSAC) algorithm is introduced to remove false matching pairs and to achieve precisely matching. Third, the image sequence is automatically sorted with the improved genetic algorithm to achieve automatic stitching. At last, the weighted average fusion algorithm is appfied to achieve smooth and seamless image stitching. This algorithm is robust for the weak-contrast X-ray image sequence. Results: Experimental results show that high-quality and fast image sequence stitching can be obtained automatically by using this method. Conclusions: To a certain extent, it overcomes the shortcomings of X-ray image sequence such as the strong image noise, concentration of values ofpixels, blurred boundaries, large overlap area and the sequence constraint, and therefore it may be applied to in medical imaging field widely.

Objective To assess ventilation administration during fiberoptic bronchoscopy (FB) in neonates. Methods Twenty-three neonates divided into two group (A group 12 neonates, B group 11 neonates) received FB. All were given pressure support ventilation (PSV)by a Y-like facility which connected to fiberoptic bronchoscope suction hole. In A group, after the tip of fiberoptic bronchoscope arrived at the carina, PSV was administrated. In B group, PSV was administrated in the entire process during FB, SpO2 and electrocardio were monitoring. Artery blood samples for blood gas analysis were obtained at four stages of just before FB,with the tip of the bronchoscope at the supralarynx, just before withdrawing bronchoscope out off trachea and within 20-30 minutes after FB. The arterial blood oxygen tension (PaO2), arterial blood carbon dioxide tension (PaCO2) and SpO2 just before FB served as baseline. The same indexes of other three stages were compared with the baseline. Results All 23 neonates were studied completely. When the tip of fiberoptic bronchoscope advanced from nostril to the supralarynx, SpO2, PaO2 and PaCO2 in two groups were similar to the baseline. In A group, when the tip below the glottis, cyanosis occurred, and SpO2 decreased significantly ( P<0. 01 ) in 11 cases (92%) by 25% ; When tip at the carina, after PSV, cyanosis disappeared, and SpO2 returned to the baseline level, PaO2 keep on the baseline just before withdrawing the bronchoscope out of the trachea. SpO2 ,PaO2 in all B group neonates keep on the baseline during FB. After the tip below the glottis,PaCO2 in all neonates of the two groups increased significantly ( P<0. 01 ), but returned to baseline within 20-30 minutes after FB. Conclusion FB can cause significant hypoxemia and hypercapnia in neonates. PSV through fiberoptic bronchoscope can be considered a safe and beneficial ventilation technique for maintaining oxygenation during FB.

Objective To investigate the feasibility of repairing spinal tracts with peripheral nerve graft combing neurotrophic factors in rats following complete spinal cord transection. Methods One hundred and twenty-one male Wistar Rats were transection at T9 level of spinal cord, and randomly divided into five groups. Group A with spinal cord transection was underwent acidic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF) treatment and peripheral nerve grafts (n=25); Group B: spinal cord transection was underwent aFGF treatment only (n=25); Group C: spinal cord transection was underwent peripheral nerve grafts only (n=25); Group D: spinal cord transaction only (n=25); and Group E: sham control (laminectomy only, n=21). The locomotor behavior of all rats was analyzed by the BBB open field locomotor test over the six months of survival time. Motor evoked potentials (MEP) were used to evaluate axon growth across the damage site. Biotinylated Dextran Amine (BDA) and retrograde tracing with fluorogold were used to evaluate the presence of axons through the damage site after treatment. Results The presence of anterograde BDA labeling of corticospinal tract axons at the graft site and fluorogold retrograde labeling of neuron populations was found in motor cortex and in red nucleus, reticulospinal nuclei, raphe nuclei, and vestibular nuclei in Group A. The average latency and amplitude of MEP were improved significantly in Group C. The mean of BBB scores showed significant improvement in Group A. Statistical analysis indicated that Group A had significant improvement compared to Group BC and D at 6 months post-surgery (P

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2016;20(29):4303-4310
BACKGROUND:Matrix metaloproteinases are now generaly considered to be able to degrade al extracelular matrices. Hypersecretion of matrix metaloproteinases or reduction in tissue inhibitors of matrix metaloproteinases leads to destruction of the dynamic balance of extracelular matrix. OBJECTIVE: To elucidate the role of matrix metaloproteinase-1 and tissue inhibitor of matrix metaloproteinase-1 in the pathogenesis and progression of intervertebral disc degeneration. METHODS:A total of 60 patients with intervertebral disc degeneration were included. Mild, moderate, and severe degeneration signals appeared on MRI imaging of the patients. Meanwhile, 20 patients with vertebral fracture, mainly cervical spine fracture, were selected as the control group. Venous blood samples were colected before the surgery; the intervertebral disc specimens were sequentialy colected. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Serum and tissue levels of matrix metaloproteinase-1 in patients with intervertebral disc degeneration were significantly increased compared with the control group (P < 0.05), and furthermore those were significantly increased in patients with severe disc degeneration compared with patients with mild and moderate disc degeneration (P < 0.05). However, serum and tissue levels of tissue inhibitors of matrix metaloproteinases did not differ significantly between the disc degeneration and control groups (P > 0.05). These results indicate that hypersecretion of matrix metaloproteinase-1 occurs in patients with intervertebral disc degeneration; however, the expression of tissue inhibitor of matrix metaloproteinase-1 is not correlated with intervertebral disc degeneration.
