OBJECTIVEThis study aimed at finding sensitive indicators in diagnosing facial growth pattern by studying the relationship between the indicators which can reflect facial growth pattern according to the previous studies and posterior-anterior ratio.
METHODSThe cephalometric radiographs of 61 teenage children were measured, the posterior-anterior ratio and the other 12 indicators including Y-axis angle, facial axis angle, cranial basal angle, and the four angles (The sagittal horizontal planes were analyzed using statistic methods.
RESULTSThe MP-SN angle was significantly coincided with the posterior-anterior ratio and Pearson coefficient is -0.922, and little correlation was found between the angles of four sagital horizontal planes and the posterior-anterior ratio. The positive correlation was found between the length of mandibular ramus and posterior-anterior ratio.
CONCLUSIONThe sensitive indicators for confirming facial growth pattern are the posterior-anterior ratio and the MP-SN angle.

Objective · To establish human cervical cancer xenografts in nude mice and investigate the antitumor therapeutic effects and safety of EGF modified cisplatin-alginate conjugate liposomes. Methods · Cervical cancer-bearing mouse model was established by subcutaneously injecting Hela cells in nude mice. Generalstate and xenograft growth of the mice were observed. Tumor volumes, tumor weights, and the body weights of mice during the treatment were recorded and analyzed. The expression levels of EGFR in xenografts were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results · ① EGFR was highly expressed in the xenografts. ② CS-EGF-Lip inhibited the tumor growth effectively (P=0.000). ③ The inhibition rates of tumor volume and tumor weight of CS-EGF-Lip were 80.22% and 58.60% respectively, which were betterthan those of cisplatin (P=0.000). ④ CS-EGF-Lip had minimal influence on body weight in mice (P=0.000). Conclusion · CS-EGF-Lip has more effective antitumoreffects than cisplatin in cervical cancer-bearing mice, which can inhibit tumor growth of solid tumors with enhanced efficacy and safety.

Silicosis had been considered for decades as an illness with manifestations of lung fibrosis due to inhalation of overconcentrated SiO2 dust. To the best of our knowledge, studies have yet to report SiO2 deposits in any other tissues and organs. In the present case, while performing bilateral artificial total hip arthroplasty for one patient, we found that the articular cartilage of the bilateral femoral head was black. Therefore, specimens thereof were sent for pathological examination. Pathological examination (immunohistochemistry) and polarized light microscopy revealed the presence of considerable brown, acicular, rhombic, and crumb-like crystals. The crystals were mainly composed of SiO2. SiO2 could deposit in vessels and femoral head cartilage via blood circulation.

Objective To analyze the urine trace albumin(mALb)/creatinine(Cr) ratio and blood uric acid(UA),and other various metabolic index level in patients with diabetic nephropathy(DN),combined with clinical data such as patients' age, body mass index(BMI),course of diseases,to explore the related mechanism of occurrence and development of DN.Methods 76 DN patients were selected. The microalbuminuria group(urinary mALb/Cr<300μg/mg) had 46 cases, the clinical albuminuria group(urinary mALb/Cr≥300μg/mg) included 30 cases, another 49 diabetic patients without kidney damage were seleted as control group. The urinary mALb/Cr,blood UA,fasting blood glucose(FBG),triacylglycerol(TG),total cholesterol(TC),high-density lipoprotein(HDL),low density lipoprotein(LDL),glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c) levels were determined. The BMI and the length of the course of the disease calculate. Results The patients' age, course of the disease, urinary mALb/Cr,blood UA,FBG,TC,TG,LDL,HbA1c and BMI level in the clinical albuminuria group and microalbuminuria group were significantly higher than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (F=6.18,12.48,141.43,12.48,8.49,4.98,6.18,3.89,3.17,3.89,all P<0.05).The high uric acid hematic disease rates of the clinical albuminuria group and microalbuminuria group were 26.09% and 26.09%,which were significantly higher than 10.20% of the control group, the differences were statistically significant(x2=4.074,24.833,all P<0.05).Urinary mALb/Cr was positively correlated with age,duration,BMI,UA,TG,TC,LDL,FBG,HbA1c(r=0.120,0.299,0.148,0.340,0.157,0.149,0.103,0.487,0.103).Multiple linear stepwise regression analysis suggested that duration, blood UA,FBG were independent risk factors of urinary mALb/Cr;TG,BMI,urinary mALb/Cr were independent risk factors for blood UA.Conclusion Urinary mALb/Cr and blood UA are the independent risk factors, high uric acid hematic disease may participate in the development process of DN,and diabetes duration,UA,BMI,TG,TC,LDL,FBG,HbA1C associated with increased urinary mALb/Cr excretory DN patients, the effective monitoring can improve the symptoms of DN and quality of life.

BACKGROUND:
Autophagy plays a crucial role in chemotherapy resistance of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Hence, autophagy-related gene 5 (ATG5), an essential molecule involved in autophagy regulation, is presumably associated with recurrence of TNBC. This study was aimed to investigate the potential influence of single-nucleotide polymorphisms in ATG5 on the disease-free survival (DFS) of early-stage TNBC patients treated with anthracycline- and/or taxane-based chemotherapy.
METHODS:
We genotyped ATG5 SNP rs473543 in a cohort of 316 TNBC patients treated with anthracycline- and/or taxane-based chemotherapy using the sequenom's MassARRAY system. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox proportional hazard regression analysis were used to analyze the association between ATG5 rs473543 genotypes and the clinical outcome of TNBC patients.
RESULTS:
Three genotypes, AA, GA, and GG, were detected in the rs473543 of ATG5 gene. The distribution of ATG5 rs473543 genotypes was significantly different between patients with and without recurrence (P = 0.024). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that patients carrying A allele of ATG5 rs473543 had an increased risk of recurrence and shorter DFS compared with those carrying the variant genotype GG in rs473543 (P = 0.034). In addition, after adjusting for clinical factors, multivariate Cox regression analyses revealed that the AA/GA genotype of rs473543 was an independent predictor for DFS (hazard risk [HR], 1.73; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.04-2.87; P = 0.034). In addition, DFS was shorter in node-negative patients with the presence of A allele (AA/GA) than in those with the absence of A allele (P = 0.027).
CONCLUSION
ATG5 rs473543 genotypes may serve as a potential marker for predicting recurrence of early-stage TNBC patients who received anthracycline-and/or taxane-based regimens as adjuvant chemotherapy.
