Objective: To explore the effects of ranitidine on pharmacokinetics of rhein in rats after oral administration of Dachengqi Decoction (DCQD), a compound traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Methods: Twelve male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into DCQD group and DCQD plus ranitidine group, and were orally administered with DCQD at a dose of 10 g/kg or DCQD (10 g/kg) combined with ranitidine (150 mg/kg), respectively. Blood samples were gathered after a series of time intervals. Metabolism of rhein was determined with a reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with internal standard of 1, 8-dihydroxyanthraquinone and the data were analyzed with DAS 2.1 program. The pharmacokinetic parameters were compared between the two groups. Results: The pharmacokinetic parameters of rhein in the DCQD group, including peak concentration (C(max)), area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC), distribution phase half-life (t(1/2alpha)), elimination rate constant (K(10)) and central to peripheral transfer rate constant (K(12)), were significantly different to those in the DCQD plus ranitidine group (P<0.05, P<0.01). There were no significant differences in the other parameters between the two groups. Conclusion: Ranitidine can influence the pharmacokinetics of rhein in rats after oral administration of DCQD.

Polyacrylamide resin was synthesized via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization ( SI-ATRP) method. Acrylic amide ( AM) was grafted onto the surface of the chloromethyl polystyrene resin via SI-ATRP in the CuBr/2, 2'-bipyridine ( Bpy) system as catalyst at room temperature. The compositions of polyacrylamide resin were determined by means of elementary analysis, FT-IR analysis and scanning electron microscopy ( SEM) . The adsorption properties, the parameters of kinetics and the thermodynamics of the resin were evaluated in details, respectively. As the results, adsorption capacity of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) increased with the initial concentrations of solution increasing at room temperature, and its highest adsorption capacity was 111. 0 mg/g with solution concentration of 8 mmol/L. Adsorption isotherm at room temperature was determined and modeled with Langmuir and Freundlich equations. The thermodynamic equilibrium functions were calculated to be ΔG<0,ΔH=268. 2 kJ/mol, ΔS>0, hence, the adsorption was spontaneous, endothermic and entropy increasing. The kinetics fitted the pseudo-second-order well. The polyacrylamide-chloromethyl polystyrene (PAM-CMCPS) resin was used for the adsorption of 2,4-D in orange sample, and good results were obtained.

Objective To investigate the colonization features of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) in the skin lesions of eczema and atopic dermatitis (AD), and to evaluate the therapeutic effect of combination topical treatment with mupirocin and hydrocortisone butyrate. Methods A multicentre, double-blind randomi-zed trial was conducted. The SCORAD was evaluated on day 1, 7, 14 and 28. Swabs for bacterial isolation were taken from the lesional skin and non-lesional skin. A combination topical therapy with mupirocin ointment and hydrocortisone butyrate ointment was used in treatment group, with vehicle ointment and hydrocortisone butyrate ointment as a control. Results Three hundred and twenty seven patients were enrolled in the study, including 208 patients with eczema and 119 patients with atopic dermatitis. Bacteria were isolated from 70.19% of lesional skin and 32.69% of non-lesional skin of patients with eczema, in which S. aureus accounted for 47.26% and 27.94% respectively. Bacteria were isolated from 74.79% of the lesional skin and 34.45% of non-lesional skin of patients with atopic dermatitis, in which S. aureus accounted and 79.78% or 80.49% respectively. The amount of S. aureus colonized was markedly higher in the lesional skin than that in non-lesional skin, either in eczema patients or in atopic dermatitis (P 0.05). Conclusions The bacterial colonization, especially S. aureus, is more frequently dectected in the lesional skin of eczema patients and AD patients than that in the non-lesional skin, which may be related in the pathogenesis of eczema and AD. And, early application of combination therapy with topical antibiotics and corticosteroids is beneficial to the patients.

Objective:To evaluate the application effect of the nurse-led catheter extraction assessment model for children in PICU.Methods:From January to May 2020, 100 children with short-term catheter in PICU of Guangzhou Women and Children Medical Center were selected by convenient sampling method as the experimental group, the need for urethral catheter indwelling was assessed daily using an evidence-based assessment scale in PICU children, and the unnecessary indwelling catheters were removed timely, and 109 children with indwelling urethral catheters from August to December 2019 were collected as the control group, the catheter was removed by the nurse on medical advice, recorded and compared days of indwelling of catheters, the incidence of patients with catheter-associated urinary tract infection , resetting of catheters and the length of stay in ICU between the two groups. Results:The median and interquartile spacing of the days with indwelling catheter were 5.0 (6.0) days in the experimental group and 6.0 (6.0) days in the control group ( Z=-2.01, P<0.05) . In the experimental group, the incidence of catheter-associated urinary tract infection was 1.000 percent (1/100), and in the control group, the incidence of catheter-associated urinary tract infection was 1.835 percent (2/109); in the experimental group, 2 cases of urethral catheter were reset, and in the control group, 2 cases of urethral catheter were reset; the median and interquartile spacing of the length of stay in ICU was 6.5 (7.0) days in the experimental group and 7.0 (8.0) days in the control group. The differences of the above three indexes between the two groups were statistically significant ( χ2=0.26, 0.01, Z=-0.96, all P>0.05). Conclusions:The nurse-led catheter extraction assessment model for children can effectively shorten the catheter indwelling days for children in PICU, which has certain clinical practice significance for reducing the incidence of catheter-associated urinary tract infection.

With the rapid development of modern biotechnology, fermentation process is increasingly important in industrial production. To guarantee the stability of products, fermentation process should be elaborately monitored and controlled. Biomass is an important parameter for on-line monitoring in bioprocesses because biomass can reflect cell growth in a bioreactor directly. In-situ microscope, a non-invasive and image-analysis based technology, can real-time monitor cells in biological process. This review summarizes the development and application of in-situ microscopy in biomass monitoring.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2023;40(3):566-572
Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) have become one of the cutting-edge technologies in the world, and have been mainly applicated in medicine. In this article, we sorted out the development history and important scenarios of BCIs in medical application, analyzed the research progress, technology development, clinical transformation and product market through qualitative and quantitative analysis, and looked forward to the future trends. The results showed that the research hotspots included the processing and interpretation of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals, the development and application of machine learning algorithms, and the detection and treatment of neurological diseases. The technological key points included hardware development such as new electrodes, software development such as algorithms for EEG signal processing, and various medical applications such as rehabilitation and training in stroke patients. Currently, several invasive and non-invasive BCIs are in research. The R&D level of BCIs in China and the United State is leading the world, and have approved a number of non-invasive BCIs. In the future, BCIs will be applied to a wider range of medical fields. Related products will develop shift from a single mode to a combined mode. EEG signal acquisition devices will be miniaturized and wireless. The information flow and interaction between brain and machine will give birth to brain-machine fusion intelligence. Last but not least, the safety and ethical issues of BCIs will be taken seriously, and the relevant regulations and standards will be further improved.
