OBJECTIVETo study the effect of Xiaoyu Tablet (XYT) on blood flow parameters and morphology of carotid artery in atherosclerotic patients.
METHODSUsing color Doppler ultrasonographic technique to examine the blood flow parameters and intimal thickness of carotid artery in 20 patients of carotid atherosclerosis after 24 weeks treatment of XYT, and compared with those in 10 patients treated with gastrodine lipid-lowering tablet.
RESULTSAfter 24 weeks treatment, blood flow parameters of carotid artery were obviously improved and intimal thickness of common carotid arteries in both side was markedly decreased. XYT showed an effect better than that of gastrodine lipid-lowering tablet.
CONCLUSIONXYT is effective in increasing blood flow of cervical and cerebral arteries.

Objective To investigate the synergistic anticancer effect of ATO combined with Rad001 on human ovarian cancer cells in vitro and the underlying mechanisms. Methods SKOV3 cells were treated with Rad001, ATO and a combination of Rad001 and ATO, respectively. Cell relative luminescence units, viability, and combination index were tested. The apoptosis was quantified by Flow cytometry. Autophagy and apoptosis associated proteins were measured with immunoblotting. Results Significant decrease in live cell number were observed in cells treated with combination of Rad001 and ATO , compared with single compound treatment (P <0.05). Moreover, a higher rates of autophagy as well as apoptosis were observed in the combination treatment compared with single compound treatment (P < 0.05). Conclusions combination of Rad001 and ATO can result in synergistic cytotoxicity through activation of the excessive autophagy and apoptotic pathway.

Objective To analyze plague epidemic tendency in the Three-River Region of Qinghai. Methods Using retrospective study, the Three-River Region during 1954-2006 year pestis epidemic focus were investigated and analyzed.Result Pestis prevailed mainly in Yushu,Chindu,Qumalai,Nangqian,Zhiduo and the Geermu.Tanghla Township. It was first found that the nature plague focus of miefitus existed in Chengduo County. There are 1 5 kinds of 12 branches in 8 trees infected plague animals were founded,336 Yersinia pestis were separated from the driven objects.Among them there were 291 Himalayas marmot body, account for 86.60%of the total,13 of Tibet sheep, accounts for 3.87%.10 of Qinghai field-mouse,accounts for 2.98%,Also there were 114 Yersinia pestis which were separated from each kind of vector insect in vivo.And,46 pestis strains came from the axe shape of flea in vivo account for 40.35%(46/114),38 pestis strains separated from Xie mountain flea, account for 33.33% (38/114).During 1960-2006 years there were 85 human plague cases were founded,238 occurred,134 died, the case fatality rate wero 56.30%(134/238),the popular seasons were started from May to November, the peak season happened in Aug and Sep.After Oct mainly due to Tibet sheep pestis which will cause as the origin of infection. The majority of sickness was pulmonary plague, account for 49.58%(117/238),whereas the first round case caused by the gland bubonic plague, account for 77.12%(91/118).Conclusions There are two pestis strains natural epidemic focus places in Three-River Source Region of Qinghai including the Himalayas marmot pestis strain and the Qinghai field-mouse pestis strain. The case of human pestis strain causes by the marmot strain, the fiehl-mouse mold mushroom spawn causes human pestis strain has not yet discovered,Three-River Source Region of Qinghai is a pestis strain key popular area in Qinghai Province.

Acta Physiologica Sinica 2001;53(2):137-141
The effect of agmatine (Agm) on the carotid baroreceptor activity was examined in 24 anesthetized rats with perfused isolated carotid sinus by recording sinus nerve afferent discharges. The results are as follows. (1) By perfusing with 1 mmol/L Agm, the functional curve for the intrasinus pressure (ISP)integral of sinus nerve activiy (ISNA) relation was shifted to the right and downward with decreases in peak slope (PS) and peak integral value of carotid sinus afferent discharge (PIV). By perfusing with high concentrations of Agm (5 and 10 mmol/L), the curves were shifted to the right and downward further with marked decreases of PS and PIV. These results showed that Agm exerted an inhibitory action on the baroreceptor activity in a dose-dependent manner. (2) The Agm-induced decrease in sinus nerve afferent activity was eliminated by pretreatment with IR and α2-AR blocker idazoxan (0.1 mmol/L). (3) Selective α2-AR blocker yohimbine (15 μmol/L) partly abolished the inhibitory effect of Agm on baroreceptor. (4) Preperfusing with Bay K 8644 (500 nmol/L), an agonist of calcium channels, also eliminated the effect of Agm on carotid baroreceptor activity. These results indicate that Agm exerts an inhibitory action on carotid baroreceptor and such an action may be attributed to the reduction in calcium influx in carotid baroreceptor, which is mediated by IR and α2-AR.

Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology 2004;20(1):95-97
AIMTo introduce the manufacture and use of a simple, new type of drop recorder of frog heart.
METHODSTo improve the perfusion device of (see text for symbol) and Straub method. Two electrodes of drop recorder were fixed in an injector of 20 ml. The input tube, output tube and resistance tube were all made of plastic material.
RESULTSThis device could be used to observe effects of preload, after-load, hormone and electrolyte on the cardiac output in isolated frog heart.
CONCLUSIONThe new type of drop recorder was economical and could be easily operated, it could be also connected to computer. Using the new type of drop recorder, effects of various physical and chemical factors on cardiac function could be observed directly, accurately.

Objective To investigate the different memory outcomes in temporal lobe epilepsy patients underwent different surgical approaches. Methods Two hundred forty-eight patients with temporal lobe epilepsy and hippocampal scle-rosis underwent standard anterior temporal lobectomy ( ATL, n=83 ) or selective amygdalohippocampectomy ( SAH, n=165) from 2009 to 2013.All the patients underwent clinical memory function assessment before surgery, 3 months and 2 years after surgery respectively. Results The memory quotient ( MQ) of patients who underwent brain surgery in the domi-nant hemisphere significantly decreased 3 months after surgery (74.5 ±16.2, 75.6 ±19.5) compared to presurgery MQ (82.9 ±15.8, 83.2 ±21.2) in both ATL and SAH groups (P<0.05).Although MQ was slightly recovered at 2 years af-ter surgery, MQ (75.1 ±14.1, 76.1 ±17.6) was still significantly lower compared with presurgery MQ (P<0.05).A-mong this, both the decrease extent of the MQ 3 months after surgery and 2 years after surgery were smaller in the SAH group than in the ATL group (7.6 vs.8.4;7.1 vs.7.8).The MQ of patients who underwent brain surgery in the non-dominant hemisphere (either ATL or SAH ) increased slightly 3 months after surgery (87.2 ±15.1, 88.1 ±16.9) com-pared to presurgery MQ (85.5 ±13.5, 85.3 ±19.7) although the difference was not statistically significant. The MQ of these two groups improved significantly 2 years after surgery (92.8 ±12.7, 93.7 ±17.1)(P<0.05).The improvement extent of the MQ was larger in the SAH group than in the ATL group (8.4 vs.7.3).Conclusions SAH may be better than ATL in the maintenance of memory function in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy and hippocampal sclerosis.
