1.Applications of Nanomedicine in Breast Cancer Therapy
Herald of Medicine 2015;(10):1267-1271
Objective Nanomedicine is a branch of nanotechnology; it applies scientific principles and established methods of nanotechnology in healthcare. Small sized nanoparticles exhibit unique material properties. Nanoparticle therapeutic agents can be delivered with minimal invasiveness in vivo, and react more specifically to target tissues.Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. Its incidence increases every year globally.Conventional therapeutic methods for breast cancer are effective, but have many limitations. In recent years the rapid development of nanotechnology medicine provides new solutions for those problems. There are many types of nanoengineered drug delivery systems (nDDS),each with distinguishing properties, including organic and inorganic materials, for example liposomes, polymers, antibodies, metals, magnets, carbons and ceramics. Nanomedicine may have passive and active targeting strategies. Both can enhance the accumulation of the drug in tumor sites. Specific nanoparticles can also kill or damage tumor cells. As its research advances fast,a wide application of nanomedicine in treating breast cancer is getting adopted. Many agents and formulations of nanomedicine are approved for clinical trials or approved for prescription.
3. Expression of hSTC-1 gene in peripheral blood and its correlation with micrometastases of breast cancer
Tumor 2007;27(12):977-980
Objective: To detect the expression of human stanniocalcin-1 (hSTC-1) mRNA in peripheral blood and tumor tissues of breast cancer patients, determine micrometastases in peripheral blood, and study the relationship between the micrometastases and malignant degree of breast cancer. Methods: The expression of hSTC-1 mRNA in peripheral blood and breast cancer tissues was detected by RT-PCR. The expression of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in breast cancer tissues were detected by immunohistochemical method. Results: Expression of hSTC-1 mRNA was identified in breast cancer tissues from 28 of 30 patients (93.3%) and in peripheral blood from 19 of 51 patients (37.3%). Expression of hSTC-1 mRNA was not detected in the peripheral blood from 17 women without breast cancer. Expression of hSTC-1 mRNA in the peripheral blood significantly correlated with multiple clinicopathological factors (P < 0.05), including tumor size, metastasis of lymph nodes, TNM stage, and the expression of ER and VEGF. Conclusion: The expression of hSTC-1 mRNA in the peripheral blood of breast cancer patients suggests the occurrence of micrometastasis. It significantly correlates with multiple clinicopathological factors which determined the prognosis of breast cancer. So hSTC-1 is proposed as a new marker for detecting micrometastasis of breast cancer in the peripheral blood.

Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 1992;0(05):-
Objective To study the protective effect of total flavones of hawthorn leaf (TFHL) on renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) in rats. Methods A model of renal I/R was made by clamping double renal pedical for 60 min and reperfusion for 24 h.TFHL (30 or 60 mg/kg) was injected before clamping renal ischemia. The level of serum urea nitrogen(BUN), serum creatinine(Scr), tumor necrosis factor-?(TNF-?),interleukin-1(IL-1) in serum were detected after reperfusion for 1 and 24 h,respectively, and the level of malonaldehyde (MDA) and erythrocuprein (SOD) in renal tissues were measured after reperfusion for 24 h.Results TFHL significantly decreased the level of BUN and Scr, decreased the concentration of TNF-? and IL-1 in serum. Pretreatment with TFHL also enhanced the activity of SOD reduced the concentration of MDA in renal after I/R.Conclusions TFHL has significantly protective effect on renal I/R and markedly improve the renal function. The mec-hanisms are associated with decreasing the lipid peroxidation reaction and reducing the level of TNF-? and IL-1.
