Objective To observe the effects of polysaccharide extracted from Yangwei Mixture on immunologic functions in mice.Method Immuno-suppressant mice model was established by intraperitoneal injection of CTX.The effects of the polysaccharide were observed through phagocytosis test of mice celiac macrophagocyte and serum hemolysin level test as well as lymphocyte transformation test.Result The polysaccharide can obviously increase the percentage of phagocytosis of mice celiac macrophagocyte, accelerate the formation of hemolysin and promote the lymphocyte transformation. Conclusion Polysaccharide extracted from Yangwei Mixture is a good immuno-stimulant,and can counteract the immuno-suppression induced by CTX.

The correlation between pulmonary endothelin receptors and alveolar-arterial oxygen gradient (A-aDO2) in rats with hepatopulmonary syndrome was investigated. Animals were divided into 2 groups: Sham-operated (Sham) group and common bile duct ligation (CBDL) group. Arterial blood gas was evaluated by a blood gas analyzer. The concentrations of ET-1 in blood and lung tissue sample were evaluated by radioimmunoassay. The distribution and expression of two kinds of subtype receptor of ET-1, ETRA and ETRB were examined by in situ hybridization. The results showed that the level of A-aDO2 was higher in CBDL group than that in Sham group (P < 0.05). The levels of plasma and pulmonary ET-1 in CBDL group were both higher than in Sham group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in average A of ETRA between two groups by imaging analysis (0.21 +/- 0.06 vs 0.22 +/- 0.08, P > 0.05), while that of ETRB was higher in CBDL group than in Sham group (0.58 +/- 0.16 vs 0.28 +/- 0.07, P < 0.05). The expression of ETRB in lung was positively correlated with A-aDO2 (P < 0.05). It was concluded that the widened A-aDO2 may be related with enhancement of the expression of ETRB in lung.

In this experiment six methods, calcium chloride(CaCl_(2)) precipitation, polyethylene glycol(PEG,pH7.0) precipitation, polyethylene glycol(PEG,pH11.5) precipitation, aluminum chloride(AlCl_(3)) precipitation,Amicon Utcra centrifugal filter devices and cellulose nitrate membrane were used to concentrate the vaccine poliovirus type 1(PV_(1)) added to water body;experimental conditions for concentration were selected and optimized. The results showed that two methods,CaCl_(2)and PEG(pH 7.0) precipitation were suitable for concentrating virus in large volumes of water while amicon utcra centrifugal filter devices for small ones. The virus recovery of the three methods reached a 100% rate.

Objective To isolate cancer stem cells from human colon cancer cell line CW-2,and observe the biological characteristics. Methods The percentage of CD44+EpCAM+ cancer stem cells which were isolated by multi-combination method was evaluated by flow-cytometry.The biological characteristics of the stem cells were analyzed by cell cycle analysis,in vitro invasion assay and in vivo tumorigenicity assay. Results The percentage of CD44+EpCAM+ cancer stem cells was 89.57%,and their capabilities of generation, invasion, tumorigenicity were higher than non-cancer stem cells(P 0.05).Conclusion CD44+EpCAM+ cancer stem cells showed low generation, high invasiveness, high tumorigenesis, and they could be isolated by multi-combination.

Objective To explore the effects of passive smoking on vascular endothelial function in office women. Methods Totally,94 healthy office women volunteers from urban(36 women)and townships or towns(58 women)were divided into three groups based on the extent of their daily exposure to passive smoking, group A exposed to one to eight cigarettes, group B exposed to nine to 15 cigarettes, and group C exposed to more than 15 cigarettes, respectively, with 20 healthy young women without exposure to passive smoking as controls.Internal diameter of the brachial artery Was measured by color Doppler ultrasound scanning for each of the participants and its changes were observed before and after congestive reaction of the brachial artery test and nitroglycerin test. Results Thirteen of 36 office women from urban and 38 of 58 from townships or towns exposed to passive smoking of more than eight cigarettes daily, with chi-square of 7.74,P=0.0054.The brachial artery in groups A,B and C dilated less than that in the controls did.The brachial artery in group C dilated less than that in the groups A and B did. Conclusion Passive smoking could damage vascular endothelial dilatation function in office women.

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of long-snake moxibustion plus Western medicine for chronic heart failure due to heart-kidney yang deficiency. Methods: A total of 80 patients were randomized into a control group and an observation group, with 40 cases in each group. The control group was treated with routine Western medicine, and the observation group was treated with long-snake moxibustion therapy on the basis of routine Western medicine. Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), stroke volume (SV) and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDd) were measured before and after treatment, and the heart function was assessed. The serum brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) level was measured, the 6 min walking distance was recorded, and the Minnesota living with heart failure questionnaire (MLHFQ) was assessed and scored. The serum galectin-3 (Gal-3) and soluble growth stimulation expressed gene 2 (sST2) protein levels were measured. Clinical efficacy was evaluated after treatment. Results: The total effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, LVEF and LVEDd in both groups were significantly improved (all P<0.05), and LVEF, SV and LVEDd in the observation group were superior to those in the control group (all P<0.05). The heart function classification in both groups were improved after treatment (both P<0.05), and the heart function classification in the observation group was superior to that in the control group (P<0.05). The serum BNP level in both groups decreased (both P<0.05), and the serum BNP level in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). The 6 min walking distance and MLHFQ scores in both groups were improved (all P<0.05), and the 6 min walking distance and MLHFQ score in the observation group were superior to those in the control group (both P<0.05). The serum Gal-3 and sST2 levels in the observation group decreased significantly (both P<0.05), and all lower than those in the control group (both P<0.05). Conclusion: Long-snake moxibustion plus Western medicine has significant efficacy in treating chronic heart failure due to heart-kidney yang deficiency; it can improve heart function, reduce the serum BNP level, and improve the exercise endurance and quality of life in the patients. This may be related to the down-regulation of serum Gal-3 and sST2 levels.
