1.Analysis on Social Support Status and Associated Factors among Breast Cancer Patients in Yunnan

Objectives To understand the social support levels among breast cancer patients in Yunnan, as well as to explore the factors associated with social support. Methods According to the unified inclusion and exclusion criteria,121 breast cancer in-patients with chemotherapy were interviewed with structured questionnaire. Social demographic characteristics, Xiao's Social Support Rating Scale,General Self-Efficacy Scale,clinical and experimental data were collected. SPSS version19.0 was used to analyze the frequency and the correlation between social support and influential variables were analyzed by using the chi-square test and non-parametric test. Results The levels of social support in total, objective social support, subjective social support and utilization degree for breast cancer patients were (49.43 ±5.69), (13.35 ±2.51), (27.59 ±3.78), (8.50 ±1.98) respectively. Marriage status and self-efficacy were associated with social support level significantly. The influencing factors such as age, education level, marital status, occupation, income, place of residence, religion, medical expenses payment type, self-efficacy were included in the univariate analysis. However, only marital status and self efficacy were positively correlated with social support (p<0.05) . Conclusions The breast cancer patients in Yunnan have a higher social support level overall. Having-marriage status and higher self-efficacy have a positive influence on breast cancer in patients' social support level.
2.Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation combined with ultrafiltration technique for treatment of kidney injury after severe hemorrhagic shock in rabbits

Objective To investigate the effect of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) combined with ultrafiltration in treatment of kidney injury induced by serious hemorrhagic shock in rabbits.Methods Models of pressure-controlled hemorrhagic shock was developed in 24 New Zealand white rabbits which were divided into unresuscitation group (n =8),ECMO combined with ultrafiltration group (combined resuscitation group,n =8),and fluid resuscitation group (n =8) according to the random number table.Heart rate was monitored via electrocardiograph and arterial pressure via fermoral artery catheter.Blood samples were collected pre-and post-shock and after resuscitation to measure levels of lactic acid,serum creatinine,IL-6,and TNF-α.Kidney samples were collected for measurement of histopathological changes via HE staining,expression of heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) via immunohistochemical staining.Results Arterial pressure was (53.1 ± 11.4) mmHg in combined resuscitation group,higher than (41.3 ± 11.1) mmHg in fluid resuscitation group and (25.9 ± 10.5) mmHg in unresuscitation group (F =41.425,P < 0.05).Hemorrhagic shock induced significant up-regulation of lactic acid,serum creatinine,IL-6,and TNF-α(P < 0.05),but all were lowered after resuscitation,especially in combined resuscitation group (P < 0.05).HE staining showed the degree of kidney tissue necrosis and inflammatory cytokine infiltration in combined resuscitation group alleviated notably compared with fluid resuscitation group.Median and interquartile values of HSP70 were 17 828.960 0 (15 779.865 0-21 751.980 0) in unresuscitation group,2 714.270 0 (1 339.215 0-7 616.950 0) in fluid resuscitation group,and 262.930 0 (198.820 0-538.195 0) in combine resuscitation group,with statistical differences among groups(P < 0.05).Conclusion ECMO combined with ultrafiltration is superior to conventional fluid resuscitation in improving hypoxia tissue injury and inflammatory reaction after hemorrhagic shock and is beneficial to attenuating kidney injury.
3.Effect of Niaochangshu Capsule on eNOS, AQP1 in Bladder and Serum of Ovariectomized ;Female Rats

Objective To explore the mechanism of Niaochangshu capsule in the treatment of postmenopausal overactive bladder, through observing its influence on bladder weight and the expression of eNOS and AQP1 of ovariectomized female rats. Methods Female SD rats were divided into blank group, model group, Nilestriol group and Niaochangshu group. Rats were removed ovaries except the blank group. The treatment groups were given corresponding drugs, blank group and model group were given normal saline by gavage. After 4 weeks, the bladders' weight and thickness were detected, the expressions of eNOS and AQP1 in serum and bladder tissue were determined by ELISA, and NO by spectrophotometry. Results Ovariectomy resulted in decreased bladder weight, bladder mucosal and muscular atrophy, and opposite changes showed after given Niaochangshu. The expressions of eNOS and NO in bladder and serum were decreased significantly after ovariectomy, while increased by given Niaochangshu capsule or nylestriol (P<0.05), and there was significant difference between Niaochangshu group and Nilestriol group (P<0.05). The expression of AQP1 was decreased in the model group, and increased after given nylestriol or Niaochangshu capsule. While the expression of AQP1 in bladder had no significant difference among the four groups. Conclusion Niaochangshu capsule can reverse bladder mucosal and muscular atrophy caused by estrogen deficiency, and increase the content of eNOS in serum and bladder, thus play the role in the treatment of postmenopausal overactive bladder.
4.Effect of lugu Ganoderma lucidum on low-density lipoprotein oxidation and monocyte adhesion to endothelium.

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of Lugu Ganoderma Lucidum (LGL) on low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation and monocyte adhesion to endothelium (AdM-E) induced by oxydative LDL and advanced glycosylation endproducts (AGE) by using serum pharmacological technique.
METHODSLDL oxidation was determined by measuring the thiobarbituric acid reactive substances in the supernatants, and AdM-E was determined by measuring myeloperoxidase activity of adherent monocyte.
RESULTSSerum derived from rats 0.5 hrs, 1 hr, 2 hrs, 3 hrs after LGL administering 0.12 g/kg once and 0.5 hrs, 1 hr after LGL administering twice showed no significant effect on LDL oxidation, but the serum from rats 2 hrs, 3 hrs after LGL 0.12 g/kg administering twice or from rats after 10 successive days LGL administering in dose of 0.12 g/kg, 0.24 g/kg and 0.72 g/kg, all could lower the LDL oxidation (P < 0.05). Besides, the serum from rats with 10 days LGL administering of all dosages also could inhibit AdM-E induced by AGE (P < 0.05), and those of 0.24 g/kg and 0.72 g/kg could inhibit AdM-E induced by oxydative LDL (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONLGL could decrease LDL oxidation and AdM-E induced by AGE or oxydative LDL.

5.Determination of trace elements in whole blood of patients with chronic Keshan disease and dilated cardiomyopathy

Objective To detect the levels of five trace elements in whole blood of patients with Keshan disease(KSD) and dilated cardiomyopathy(DCM) and explore their role in the pathogenesis of KSD.Methods One hundred and four patients with chronic KSD were selected from Keshan diseased areas in Shandong,Sichuan and Inner Mongolia.Thirty patients with DCM were selected from Qilu Hospital of Shandong University,Jinan Central Hospital,The First People's Hospital.Ninety-one healthy people from KSD endemic areas and 39 healthy people from Jinan were selected as endemic healthy controls and non-endemic healthy controls,respectively.Blood samples were collected to determinate the level of selenium (Se),copper (Cu),zinc (Zn),chromium (Cr) and manganese (Mn) with fluorescence method and atomic absorption spectrometry,according to the principle of informed consent.Results The level of Se,Zn and Cr of KSD group[(36.0 + 4.9)μg/L,(22.73 + 4.62)mg/L,(0.56 + 0.17)mg/L] was significantly lower than that of non-endemic healthy controls [(56.4 ± 6.8)lμg/L,(25.35 ± 4.44)mg/L,(0.71 ± 0.17)mg/L,all P < 0.05],but the level of Cu of KSD group[(0.95 ± 0.24)mg/L] was significantly higher than that of non-endemic healthy controls[(0.73 ± 0.13) mg/L,all P < 0.05].The level of Se and Cr of KSD was significantly lower than that of endemic healthy controls[(54.5 ± 5.4)μg/L,(0.87 ± 0.02)mg/L,P < 0.05],and Cu was significantly higher than that of endemic healthy controls[(0.66 ± 0.02)mg/L,P < 0.05].The level of Cu and Zn of KSD was significantly lower than that of DCM [(1.21 ± 0.23)mg/L,(27.09 ± 7.10)mg/L,all P < 0.01].The level of Se and Cr of DCM group[(39.6 ± 3.5)μg/L,(0.58 ± 0.14)mg/L] was significantly lower than that of non-endemic healthy controls(all P < 0.01),but Cu[(1.21 + 0.23)mg/L] was significantly increased (P < 0.01).Compared with non-endemic healthy controls,the level of Se of endemic healthy control group was significantly decreased (P < 0.01),while Cu was significantly increased (P < 0.01).Se,Zn and Cr level of KSD decreased gradually following elevated heart function level,but the level of Cu gradually increased.Conclusions The metabolism of Se,Cr,Cu and Zn is unbalanced in KSD patients,whose Se level is still lower than that of people in non-endemic areas.The change of Se,Cr,Cu and Mn level between KSD and DCM is consistent.

Synthetic biology research methods which design and build a new artificial biological systems (medicinal plants or microorganisms system) with specific physiological functions through clarifying and simulating the basic law of the biosynthesis of active components of traditional Chinese medicine, is considered to be a potential method to produce an abundant resources of bioactive components. Tanshinones is a kind of diterpene quinone compounds with important pharmacological activities from traditional Chinese medicine Salvia miltiorrhiza. This article systematically introduced the research progress of the synthetic biology of S. miltiorrhiza, in order to provide references for studies on other terpenoid bioactive components of traditional Chinese medicines, and give new research strategies for the sustainable development of traditional Chinese medicine resources.

8.Effect of mold temperature on mechanical properties of Ti-Zr alloy castings.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the influence of mold temperature on the mechanical properties of Ti-Zr alloy castings.
METHODSTi-Zr alloy was cast into a mold which was made of a zircon (ZrO2.SiO2) investment with a casting machine (China) designed as vacuum, pressure and centrifuge. At three mold temperatures (room temperature, 300 degrees C, 600 degrees C) the Ti-Zr alloy was cast separately. The ultimate tensile strength (sigmab), 0.2% offset yield point strength (sigma0.2), and elongation to fracture (delta) were determined by a universal testing machine with 15 mm pre-marked gauge interval. The surface micro-structures of Ti-Zr alloy castings at three mold temperatures were observed by optical microscope.
RESULTSAt a higher mold temperature during casting, the tensile strength and yield strength of Ti-Zr alloy were significantly increased, while the elongations were significantly decreased. The micro-structure of the surface was different from the inner part. There was a reacted layer in the outermost surface. The thickness of reacted layers at the three mold temperatures was about 35.5 man (room temperature), 55.0 microm (300 degrees C) and 65.5 microm (600 degrees C), respectively. The inner part of microstructure composed of main a phases within the prior alpha grain boundaries.
CONCLUSIONThe mold temperature is one of the major factors influencing Ti-Zr alloy mechanical properties. Comparing with Ti6Al4V alloy and Co-Cr alloy castings, Ti-Zr alloy is more suitable for denture frame.

9.Risk factors for hearing impairment induced by cytomegalovirus infection.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the risk factors for hearing impairment induced by cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in children.
METHODSOne hundred and fifty-eight children diagnosed with CMV infection were enrolled as subjects. Based on the results of the brainstem auditory evoked potential (BAEP) test, patients were classified into normal hearing group (n=117; BAEP≤35) and abnormal hearing group (n=41; BAEP>35). A retrospective analysis was performed on the general information, routine blood indices, liver function, copy number of CMV-DNA in urine and breast milk. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to predict the copy number of CMV-DNA resulting in abnormal BAEP. The Spearman rank correlation analysis was used to test the correlations of the copy number of CMV-DNA in urine with the degree of hearing impairment and platelet count.
RESULTSThe incidence rates of platelet abnormality and abnormal liver function and the copy number of CMV-DNA in urine were significantly higher in the abnormal hearing group than in the normal hearing group (P<0.01). According to the ROC curve, the copy number of CMV-DNA in urine had a sensitivity of 46.3% and a specificity of 93.2% in predicting hearing impairment when it reached 1.415×10(6) per mL. The results of correlation analysis showed that the degree of hearing impairment was positively correlated with the copy number of CMV-DNA (r=0.382, P<0.01); the platelet count was negatively correlated with the copy number of CMV-DNA in urine (r=-0.233, P=0.003).
CONCLUSIONSAn increased copy number of CMV-DNA in urine might be a risk factor for hearing impairment induced by CMV infection. Children are likely to have hearing impairment when the copy number of CMV-DNA reaches 1.415×10(6) per mL. The monitoring of hearing should be strengthened in CMV-infected children with a decreased platelet count.

10.Hypertension and intermittent convulsions for one month in a school-age child.

Childhood polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a rare systemic vasculitis and the delayed diagnosis and treatment will cause high incidence of sequelae and high mortality. This article reports a girl with childhood PAN due to posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES). The girl aged ten years was admitted to the hospital due to hypertension and convulsions for one month. She had complaints of headache, vomiting, and blurred vision before convulsions. At six months before admission, a mass was observed in the neck. The physical examination showed that she had hypertension and no abnormal findings in the central nervous system. The brain magnetic resonance imaging manifested long T1 and T2 signals, high signal intensities on fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) images, and iso-signal intensity on diffusion-weighted imaging in the white matter of the left occipital lobe. Therefore, the cause of convulsions was considered as PRES. Mass biopsy suggested PAN and no findings supported tuberculosis. The right kidney atrophy was observed by ultrasound examination. Emission computed tomography of the kidney showed multiple vascular stenosis and no blood perfusion in the right kidney, so PAN was confirmed. These findings suggest that PAN should be considered in patients with vasculitis who had involvements of multiple systems after excluding common vasculitis, such as Kawasaki disease and Henoch-Schönlein purpura. Biopsy and angiography should be performed as early as possible for timely diagnosis and treatment.
