To study the ischemia/reperfusion-induced dynamic changes in PLA 2 in cardiomyocytes and its effect on phospholipids of cardiomyocyte membrane during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), and to evaluate the protective effects of two kinds of cardioplegia. The results showed that there was an increase in PLA 2 activity during CPB followed by decreases in the contents of total phospholipids, phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine. During the 6o-min aorta occlusion beriod, there were no obvious changes in the activity of PLA 2 and the contents of total phospholipids, phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylcholine when cardioplegia was used. During early reperfusion, there were a rapid increase in PLA 2 activity accompanied by a rapid decrease in contents of phospholipids. However, after 30~60min reperfusion, the contents of phospholipids for group C, D began to increase and the PLA 2 activity began to decrease. The changes in the contents of phospholipids and the PLA 2 activity in extracorporeal circulation with warm blood cardioplegia group were smaller in magnitude. These results suggested that the myocardial membrane injury was dependent on PLA 2 activation. Warm blood cardioplegia could provide better myocardial protection, and warrant further improvements.

BACKGROUND:A large number of experiments have shown that bone marrow mesenchymal stem cels (BMSCs) have good effects on the treatment of lung disease or improvement of lung injury, and its therapeutic effect is mainly oriented to reduce the inflammatory response. OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of BMSCs combined with reduced glutathione in murine models of bleomycin-induced lung injury. METHODS:BMSCs were isolated from a male NOD/SCID mouse and cel morphology and phenotype were observed. Sixty-four female NOD/SCID mice were randomly divided into a control group, a model group, a BMSCs group and a BMSCs+reduced glutathione group (combined group). The control group received intratracheal injection of normal saline, the model group received intratracheal injection of bleomycin, and the BMSC group received BMSCs injectionvia the tail vein at 2 hours after intratracheal injection of bleomycin, and combined group received BMSCs+reduced glutathione injection via the tail vein at 2 hours after intratracheal injection of bleomycin. Al mice were kiled after 7 days, and levels of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-β, malondialdehyde in lung tissue were detected and lung tissue specimens were obtained for pathological examination. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:BMSCs were fibroblast-like cels, Positive for CD10, CD13 and CD44, but negative for CD34 and CD45. Compared with the control group, the levels of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-β and malondialdehyde were increased in the model group, while decreased significantly in the BMSCs group and combined group (P < 0.05), especialy in the combined group (P < 0.05). Pathological examination showed that more serious lung injury was observed in the model group and BMSCs group than the combined group. These findings indicate that BMSCs combined with reduced glutathione can more effectively protect against bleomycin-induced lung injury.

Objective To evaluate the sunscreen application and the level of photoprotective knowledge in both dermatologists and photosensitive patients. Methods The style, sites and amount of the sunscreen applied were examined by 0. 05 % dipyridamole cream in 39 dermatologists and 41 photosensitive patients with Wood's light. The participants were asked to fill in a questionnaire about the photoprotective knowledge. Results Frequent mistakes made by participants in this study were as follow: (1) using an inadequate amount of sunscreen; (2) putting sunscreen in the palm of the hand and rubbing the hands together before application; (3) lacking a systematic approach to sunscreen application. The median quantity of individual sites ranged from 0. 5 mg/cm2 to 1 mg/cm2 except for the forehead of the female dermatologist that had a median thickness of 1. 5 mg/cm2. The questionnaire survey showed that dermatologists also had less knowledge on sun protection even though better than photosensitive patients. Conclusions Dermatologists and photosensitive patients always fail to apply sunscreen in some prominently exposed sites and to paint the average thickness of sunscreen used far less than that of experimentally measured dose (2 mg/cm2). Continuing education and training about pho-toprotection for dermatologists should be carried out to provide better education for the patients on sun protection.

Objective To investigate the regulation of B-lymphocyte stimulator(BLyS) levels in response to IFN-γand IL-6. Methods Flow cytometry, quantitative polymerase chain reaction, ELISA and Western blot were applied to examine the expression level of BLyS in response to IFN-γ and IL-6 . Results IFN-γand IL-6 induced BLyS expression in KM3 cells. After treated with BAY11-7082, an IkB-α phospho- rylation inhibitor, the up regulation of BI,yS induced by IFN-γ was completely inhibited. Inhibiting the nu-clear faetor-kB (NF-kB) and mitogen activated protein kinase(MAPK) activation in KM3 cells reduced BLyS protein and gene expression. Conclusion MAPK and NF-kB pathways are involved in the regulation of BLyS expression, which suggests that MAPK and NF-kB might be used for the treatment of multiple mye- loma.

Microbiology 1992;0(05):-
The brown slime inside pipeline of the polluted mineral waters well was analyzed. It was confirmed that the brown slime was a biofilm formed mainly by growth of bacteria contaminant, using microscope analysis. After treated with HCl, the brown crystals and mycelioid matter presented in slimes disappeared. It was verified these were metal deposits. The samples produced Prussia blue deposits by dropping K 4Fe(CN) 6 and HCl, which proved that the metal deposits were iron compound. Also it was believed the biofilm was produced by growth of iron bacteria, mixed with deposits of iron compound. The iron bacteria have been isolated from the slimes and cultured in the laboratory. The colony on agar plate also produced Prussia blue deposits after treated with K 4Fe(CN) 6 and HCl. The cells form of pure culture was the same as that in the samples by electronmicroscope analysis. Therefore, It indicated that the bacteria on biofilm inside pipeline were iron bacteria mainly.
