Objective To study the clinical and pathological characteristics, treatment results and prognosis of primary parotid non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). Methods All of our 21 patients received operative resection first and were histologically comfirmed as having T-cell (intermediate grade) and 20 B-cell lineage (2 high grade, 6 intermediate grade ,12 low grade) including 7 mucosa-associatied lymphoid tissue (MALT) phenotype. Ann Anbor stages were 16 stage Ⅰ E and 5 stage Ⅱ E lesions. All patients were treated by radiotherapy,of them 11 were also given 2~6 cycle chemotherapy. Results The overall 5-year survival rate was 77.0%. All 5 patients who died did so of distant involvement. Conclusions Our data show that MALT lymphoma can be present as a primary paroid NHL,although it is not included in the Working Formulation. Low-dose radiotherapy is of choice in the treatment. Patients with intermediate or high grade NHL should be given multi-modality therapy.

BackgroundThe favorable effect of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) on the reconstruction of injured corneas have been reported, but the mechanism remains unclear.ObjectiveThis study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and antiangiogenic effect after transplantation of BMSCs in chemically burned corneas. Methods BMSCs were isolated and extracted from the bone marrow. The cells were cultured and passaged and then were seeded on the amniotic membrane.Corneal alkali injury models were created in 18 clean SD rats by sticking the filter paper containing 1 mol/L NaOH at the central cornea for 40 seconds. The rats were then randomized into 3 groups.Amniotic membrane with BMSCs or amniotic membrane without BMSCs were transplanted in 1 week after the establishment of models, and the rats without transplantation were used as the control group. The severity of corneal lesion was graded, and angiogenesis area was measured 2 weeks after the transplantation. The expression of interleukin-2 ( IL-2 ),interferon-γ(IFN-γ),IL-10 and transforming growth factor-β ( TGF-β ) were examined by ELISA,and the mRNA of the matrix metalloproteinase-2 ( MMP-2 ),vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF),epidermal growth factor(EGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF) were analyzed by real-time PCR.ResultsThe positive rates of the cells were 99.78% and 99.79% for CD90 and CD29,7.90%,1.16% and 1.28% for CD34,CD45 and CDllba. The cells grew well on the amniotic membrane. The corneal inflammatory score and neovascularization area were similar among the three groups ( F =0.021,P-- 0.979 ; F =0.076,P =0.927 ).However, the corneal inflammatory score was significantly reduced and neovascularization area was significantly less in the amniotic membrane group compared with the BMSCs group and control group(P=0.011,0.001 ;P=0.005,0.000).The levels of IL-2 and IFN-γ secreted by Th1 cells were decreased (P =0.000,0.002;P =0.003,0.045 ) and the levels of IL-10 and TGF-β secreted by Th2 cells were increased in the BMSCs group compared with the amniotic membrane and control group ( P =0.000,0.000 ; P =0.000,0.021 ).No significant difference was found in VEGF expression among three groups( F=4.880,P =0.056).But the mRNA of the MMP-2 and bFGF were lower in the BMSCs group than the amniotic membrane group(P=0.009,0.003 ) and control group(P<0.01 ).Conclusions BMSCs modulate the expression of inflammatory-related and angiogenic-related cytokines and therefore play the antiinflammatory and anti-angiogenic effects in the chemically burned cornea.

AIM: To evaluate the protective effect of rapid phase of ischemic preconditioning against spinal cord ischemic injury in rabbits. METHODS: Thirty six male New Zealands white rabbits were randomly assigned to 3 groups (12 in each group): ischemia and reperfusion injury group (IR group), ischemic preconditioning + IR group (IPC+IR group) and sham operation group (sham). In IR group, spinal cord ischemia was induced by an infrarenal aorta clamping for 20 min; The rabbits in IPC+IR group underwent a 6 min ischemic preconditioning followed by 30 min of reperfusion before the 20 min clamping; The rabbits in sham group underwent the same procedures as the IR group except for infrarental aortic unclamping. Neurologic status was scored at 8, 12, 24 and 48 h after reperfusion. All animals were sacrificed at 48 h after reperfusion and the spinal cords (L_(5-7)) were removed for histopathologic study and determination of the activity of Na~+, K~+-ATPase. RESULTS: The neurologic function scores in sham group and IPC+IR group at each observation interval were higher than those in IR group (P

Objective To investigate the effects of the folic acid on human T lymphoid leukemia cell line CEM cells. Methods 1. MTT method was used to detect the proliferation of CEM cells co- cultured with folic acid of different concentrations and time;2. E-xamine the changes of morphology by light microscopy with Giemsa stain;3. Detect the percentage of apoptosis and cell cycle distribution as well as the expression of the apoptosis protein(Bcl- 2,C- myc) by flow cytometry;4. Detect DNA fragments by Agaiose elec-trophoresis;5. Detect the influence of folic acid to the anticancer effects of methotrexatc(MTX) by MTT methods. Results 1 Folic acid could inhibit the proliferation of CEM cells, and the optimal inhibitive concentrations range from 0. 4 ? 10-4 ?g/L to 3. 0 ? 10 -4 ?g/L,the inhibition rate was about 30% - 40% ; 2. Co - cultured with folic acid at 24,48, 72 hours, examined by light microscopy with Giemsa stain, apoptosis cells were found in all study groups but the higher apoptosis rate was found co - cultured with folic acid at concentration of (0.4 - 3.0) ? 10-4?g/L;3.The highest apoptosis rate was 6. 19% found at the concentration of 3 ? 10-4 ?g/L, but the cell cycle distribution had no statistical difference with control group, the expression of apoptosis related protein Bcl - 2 and C-myc was decreased;4 DNA was extracted from CEM cells co - cultured with 0.4? 10 -4 ?g/L and 3 ? 10-4 ?g/L folic acid for 48 hours. UNA ladders were visible by agarose electrophoresis of DNA fragments; 5. Folic acid did not affect the antitumor effect of MTX at the concentration from 0 2? 10-4 ?g/L to 12.0?10-4 ?g/L. Conclusion Folic acid may suppress proliferation and induce apoptosis of CEM cell
