Corticosteroid-induced glaucoma (CIG) is a form of open angle glaucoma associated with both topical and systemic administration of corticosteroids. Here we described the clinical findings in a patient with severe glaucoma and posterior subcapsular cataract (PSC) after topical administration of corticosteroid eye drops. We concluded corticosteroid eye drop was an effective medicine for inflammation of the eyes; however,prolonged use could cause severe vision loss as a result of intractable corticosteroid-induced glaucoma and cataract.

Objective To study the effect of p38MAPK on the activity and c-myc protein expression in rat acetaldehyde-induced hepatic stellate cell(HSC),and to investigate the alcoholic liver fibrosis related mechanism.Methods The different concentrations of SB203580 as the p38 specific blocker was adopted to conduct the intervention on rat acetaldehyde-induced HSC.The cellular mor-phological change was observed by the microscope.The cell proliferation was detected by MTT,the cell cycle was analyzed by flow cytometry(FCM),and the expression of c-myc protein was examined by the SABC method.Results (1)after acetaldehyde stimula-tion,HSC was increased in size and proliferated rapidly,but with the added SB203580 concentration increase,the cellular prolifera-tion was slowed down,the cells size was diminished and the deformed cells were increased.(2)The proliferation of acetaldehyde-in-duced HSC was inhibited by different doses of SB203580,and the higher concentration has the more significant inhibiting effect.(3) With the SB203580 concentration increase,the cells at the phase G0 and G1 were increased,while the cells at the phase S were de-creased,at the same time the expression positive rate of c-myc protein was decreased.Conclusion Blocking p38MAPK pathway ac-tivity could inhibit the proliferation of acetaldehyde-induced HSC,which may be related to the down-regulation of C-myc protein ex-pression and blocking the DNA synthesis in cells entering from G0/G1 phase to S phase.

Objective To explore the higher dangerous factors,the early clinical performances and its contents of neonatal pulmonary hemorrhage(NPH).Methods The clinical performances,chest radiograms and autoptical pathological materials of 66 cases of newborns who died of NPH at our neonatal department during 1993 to 2003 were reviewed and analyzed.Results The higher dangerous factors of NPH were premature delivery/low birth weight,serious diseases lead to hypoxia and severe infections.The early clinical performances of NPH were the suddenly aggravation of dyspnea and the increasing of moist sounds.The early X-ray performances were lower penetrance of lung fields extensively and well-distributly with path clouds,the intercostals space usually increased.According to the autoptical(patho)-logy,this X-ray perfomance indicated the edema of the pulmonary with small amount of hemorrhage.Conclusion The patients with the higher dangerous factors and the early clinical performances of NPH,must be diagnosed and interfered it as early as possible to reduce the mortality of NPH.

Objective To observe the dynamic expressions of kielin/chordin-like protein (kcp) in mouse model of hepatic fibrosis and the effects of bone morphogenetic protein-7 (BMP-7)intervention on the expressions,and to explore a new target for treatment of fibrosis.Methods A total of 50 healthy male ICR mice were divided into three groups:control group(n=10) ; model group (n=30) and BMP-7 treatment group (n=10).The model group was further divided into three subgroups according to different time points:subgroups of 4,8 and 12 weeks with 10 mice in each subgroup.The mouse model of hepatic fibrosis was established by hypodermic injection of carbon tetrachloride(CCl4 ).The mice in BMP-7 treatment group began to receive human recombmant BMP- 7via intraperitoneal injection after 8 weeks of the first administration of CC14 and lasted for 4 weeks.The serum levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT),aspartate transaminase (AST) and albumin (Alb) were detected.The pathological changes of liver were observed under optical microscope after HE and Masson staining.The dynamic expressions of kcp mRNA and protein of each group were detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction,immunohistochemistry and Western blot.The comparison of means among groups was done by univariate ANOVA.Results In model group,ALT and AST levels increased,while Alb level gradually decreased,and peaked at week 12.BMP-7treatment could reduce the changes,and there were significant differences among groups (F=23.501,34.600 and 16.244,respectively; all P＜0.05).In normal control group,the expressions of kcp mRNA and protein were low,while those in model group were gradually increased.BMP-7 treatment could achieve remission and the changes were all significantly different among groups (F=30.362 and 10.727,respectively; P＜0.01 or 0.05).The expression of kcp mRNA was positively correlated with levels of transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 mRNA and BMP-7 mRNA (r=0.760 and 0.769,respectively; both P＜0.05).Conclusions BMP 7 can improve the hepatic fibrosis in mice.kcp may play an important role in the occurrence and development of liver fibrosis which is a potential therapeutic target for hepatic fibrosis.

Objective To investigate auditory sensory gating potential in the siblings of schizophrenic, to discover the neuroimaging features of sensory gating associated with schizophrenia as intermediate phenotypes. Methods Twelve siblings of schizophrenia patients in the first episodic, and 12 healthy controls matched in gender, age, education under?went MRI scan when performing a auditory sensory gating fMRI task (repeated clicks and single click auditory stimuli). The measure of sensory gating was the contrast of repeated clicks minus single click. The analysis of result was imple?mented in SPM2. Results Compared with healthy controls, schizophrenia patients showed significant overactivation in the right inter cingulate gyrus (x=4,y=8,z=32) and left anterior cingulate gyrus (x=-8,y=4,z=28) during the fMRI senso?ry gating task. Conclusion Sensory gating is overactivated in the cingulate gyrus in siblings of schizophrenic. This pat?tern may be a potential endophenotype of schizophrenia.

ObjectiveTo find out if the immune system derived thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH) β splice variant(TSHβ-Ⅴ) would be regulated by circulating thyroid hormone levels to get a further understanding of the function and mechanism of this TSHβ-Ⅴ in thyroid homeostasis.MethodsA total of 20 weaning Balb/c mice (half male and half female) were selected and randomly divided into two groups according to their body mass and gender(n =10).Mice of control group were fed with common diet and deionized water.Mice of the low-iodine(LI) group were fed with low-iodine diet(containing iodine 20 - 40 μg/kg,iodine-intake about 0.25 μg/d) and deionized water.The experimental period was 3 months.At the end of the experiment,mice were executed and the blood was collected to observe the levels of TSH and thyroid hormone by chemiluminescence immunoassay (CIA) ; bone marrow (BM),peripheral blood(PBL),thyroid gland and pituitary were collected to assay the TSHβ-Ⅴ mRNA expression by real-time quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).ResultsThe serum free thyroxine(FT4) and total thyroxine(TT4) levels in LI group of mice[(0.47 ± 0.70)nmol/L,(2.41 ± 0.28)pmol/L] were significantly lower than that of the control group of mice [(55.2 ± 3.68) nmol/L, (32.72 ± 1.02) pmol/L,t =43.81,86.04 、all P ＜ 0.01 ] and the serum total triiodothyronine(TT3) and free triiodothyronine(FT3) reduction in LI group of mice[ (0.76 ± 0.08)nmol/L,(4.01 ± 0.40)pmol/L] were significantly lower than that of the control group of mice [ (1.10 ± 0.06)nmol/L,(5.40 ± 0.38)pmol/L,t =9.81,7.5 1,P ＜ 0.01 ].Iodine insufficiency strongly elevated the serum TSH in LI group of mice[ (35.67 ± 17.39)mU/L] than that in control group of mice[ (0.24 ± 0.10)mU/L,t =- 6.11,P ＜ 0.01 ].The mRNA levels of TSH β-Ⅴ in BM (9.62 ± 0.60) and in PBL( 9.25 ± 0.83 ) of LI group of mice were lower than those in control group of mice (7.69 ± 0.36,7.11 ± 0.41,t =6.77,5.64,P ＜ 0.01),while the mRNA level of TSH β-Ⅴ in pituitary of LI group of mice (1.99 ± 0.61) was increased compared with that in control group of mice (5.75 ± 0.98,t =- 8.02,P＜ 0.01).Compared with control group of mice(9.12 ± 0.62),the level of thyroid TSH β-Ⅴ mRNA in LI group of mice (9.32 ± 0.91 ) was not significantly changed (t =0.45,P ＞ 0.05).There was no detectable native TSHβ in BM,PBL and thyroid.The mRNA level of native TSHβ in pituitary in LI group of mice( - 7.17 ± 1.78) was dramatically elevated compared to that in control group of mice( - 1.43 ± 0.51,t =- 7.60,P ＜ 0.01 ).ConclusionsThe mRNA levels of TSHβ-Ⅴ are suppressed in BM and PBL in low iodinediet induced hypothyroidism mice,which suggest that immune system derived TSHβ-Ⅴ may be more important thannative TSHβ in immune-thyroid regulation.

Objective To revise the Symptom Distress Scale for postoperative patients with pituitary tumor and to test its reliability and validity. Methods On the base of previous qualitative interview and literature review, Delphi consultation was performed to identify items of the Symptom Distress Scale for postoperative patients with pituitary tumor. By convenience sampling method, totally 191 patients from four first-class ternary hospitals in Jiangsu province were investigated effectively by this scale. Results A scale of 4 factors and 16 items was identified by expert interviews, item analysis, exploratory factor analysis and the four factors could explain 69.812%of the variance. The Cronbachαcoefficient of the scale was 0.920, the content validity index was 0.915, and the interrater reliability was 0.860. Conclusions Symptom Distress Scale for postoperative patients with pituitary tumor has good reliability and validity to assess the symptom distress of pituitary tumor patients after operation.

Objective To study the clinical characteristics of neonates with Listeriosis sepsis and explore the nursing experience. Methods The clinical data of 22 cases with neonatal Listeriosis sepsis were retrospectively analyzed.Results Twenty-two neonates developed Listeria monocytogenes sepsis 0.5 h~5 d after birth with 13 cases of low birth weight. The stay was 2~77 d,10 were discharged after recovery,7 were discharged after signature of their families due to improvements and 5 died of meningitis and septicemia.Conclusion Timely and accurate collection of samples should be done for laboratory examinations.Close observation of the diseases,attaching importance to infant feeding and implementation of infant developmental nursing are all critical for the improvement of cure rate.
