Objective Observed by ultrasound, this study investigated anatomical characters of median nerve affecting the minimal current intensity of percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (PNS).Methods Forty healthy adult volunteers were enrolled in this prospective observational stud-y.PNS was performed with a stimulating pen in 2 Hz,0.2 ms,3 mA probe mode for cubits the me-dian nerve localization.Stimulation current was adjusted according to the motor response and the min-imal current intensity at which the motor response was obtained was recorded. There after, the medi-an nerve was observed with ultrasound imaging at the location point. Then, the depth, diameter, area and circumference of the nerve were determined. Results The minimal current intensity was (1.9 ± 0.6)mA and the depth of nerve was (6.1±1.7)mm.The linear regression equation between the mini-mal current intensity and the depth of nerve is:Y (nerve depth,cm)=0.359 +0.135X1 (minimum current intensity,mA),the determination coefficient R2 =0.25 1 (P <0.01).Conclusion The stimu-lation threshold of PNS localization the median nerve was correlated to the depth of nerve, which sug-gests that PNS not only can determine the position of the peripheral nerve, but also can help predict the depth of the peripheral nerve according to the minimum stimulus current.

Methods The MRI appear-ances of 21 cases with acute trauma in the ankles were retrospectively analyzed, focusing on the presence or absence injuries of lateral collat-eral ligamentous complex, bone and osteochondral lesions,MRI was performed within 48 h of trauma. Results Bone bruise was observed in 15 patients. There were injuries of the lateral ligaments in 4 cases and the medial ligaments in 1 case. Injury of the osteochondral lesion was in 5 cases and Achilles tear was in 3 cases. Conclusion MRI have diagnostic value for acute ankle injury.

[Summary] The genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood leukocyte of the patient with thyroid hormone resistance syndrome and 14 members of his family. The exons 1-10 of thyroid hormone receptor β (TRβ) gene were amplified by PCR.The products of PCR were sequenced directly to detect the gene mutation. The results showed that 3 members of this family were confirmed to have the C→T transition mutation at nucleotide 1 303 site within exon 10 of TRβ gene, and the missense mutation results in the substitution of histidine to tyrosine (H435Y).The heterozygous mutation may lead to the occurrence of thyroid hormone resistance syndrome.

· Vascular endothelial growth factor is indispensable inducing factor in retinalangiogenesis. After the retinal neovascularization of proliferative diabetic retinopathy ( PDR ) patients, it can cause fibrovascular membrane formation, epiretinal membrane fibrosis increased, resulting in traction retinal detachment with further aggravate the condition. The recent research suggests that cytokines promote fibroblast proliferation, movement, adhesion, and secretion of extracellular matrix functions in the diabetic state of the environment changes to profibrogenic state, resulting in the accumulation and fibrosis of extracellular matrix. This paper reviewed the status quo of the correlation between vascular endothelial growth factor and fibrosis-related cytokine.

Objective By making models of premature animal, explores the effects of dexamethasone on the brain development of premature rats and its mechanisms. Methods Eighteen SD rats were randomly divided into high-dexamethasone(H-Dex) group,low-dexamethasone (L-Dex) group and normal saline(NS) control group, with 6 rats in each group. The pregnant rats in L-Dex group were injected with dexamethasone [0.1 mg/(kg·d)] from 16 to 18 days of pregnancy, while the pregnant rats in H-Dex group were injected with dexamethasone [0.5 mg/(kg· d)] ; the pregnant rats in NS control group were injected with 0.9% NaCl of the same volume. All of the fetal rats were received after administrating caesarean operation on the day 19 of pregnancy.Rats were sacrificed at the directed time and brain tissue was prepared.Histological feature and the water content of the brains were observed.Level of apoptosis was measured by flow cytometry. The expressions of myelin basic protein (MBP) and interleukin(IL)-1β in brain tissue homogenate were detected by ELISA.Results (1) The brain water contents of rats in H-Dex group,L-Dex group and NS control group were (85.94 ± 0.54) %,(86.08 ± 1.01) %,(86.94 ± 0.82) %.Compared with NS control group, the water contents of Dex group were lower (P < 0.05).(2) Glial cells of brain cortex in L-Dex group and H-Dex group were more mature than in NS control group, and the changes in H-Dex group was more significant.(3) The expressions of MBP in brain tissue of H-Dex group,L-Dex group and NS control group were (5.73 ± 1.06) μg/mg,(5.46 ±0.77) μg/mg and (2.42 ±0.52) μg/mg.Compared with NS control group,Dex group was higher(P <0.05).While the expressions of IL-1β in brain tissue of H-Dex group,L-Dex group and NS control group were (249.05 ± 11.29) pg/g,(257.47 ± 9.33) and (292.66 ± 21.51) pg/g.Compared with NS control group,Dex group was lower(P < 0.05).There was no significant difference between H-Dex group and L-Dex group(P > 0.05).(4) The level of apoptosis in H-Dex group,L-Dex group and NS control group were (18.07 ± 1.63) %,(6.88 ± 0.47) % and (2.00 ± 0.32) %.Compared with NS control group, the level of apoptosis in Dex group was higher(P <0.05),and H-Dex group was higher than that in L-Dex group. Conclusion (1) Using dexamethasone prophylactic could promote the development of glial cells, reduce the water content, increase the expressions of MBP,and decrease the expressions of IL-1β in brain tissues. It indicates that dexamethasone may play a major role in maturation of fetal brain.(2) Using dexamethasone prophylactic could increase the amounts of the apoptosis cells, and this effect is dose-dependent.It indicates that dexamethasone may have a negative effect on the fetal brain and suggestes that using dexamethasone in premature infant should be cautious, and if it has to,using a lower dose.

Objective To elucidate the relationship between quality of life (QOL) and disease activity of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE),as well as to reveal the factors impacting disease activity and the QOL of SLE utilizing the combination of SLE-specific quality of life questionnaire (SLEQOL) and the medical outcomes survey short form 36 (SF-36).Methods SLEQOL and SF-36 health survey questionnaire were applied.Information on gender, disease duration, age, education level were collected.Serum complement (C3 and C4) level and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) were measured.Patients were divided into inactive, mild active, moderate active and severe active respectively according to SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI).Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient was used to analyze the correlation between the activity of disease and the QOL.Multiple linear regression was employed to explore the factors which could impact on SLEQOL.Results The physical function of SLEQOL was positively correlated with SLEDAI (r=0.36; P<0.05).The association between reported health transition of SF-36 and SLEDAI was positive (r=0.19; P<0.05).Physical functioning,role-physical,role-emotional,body pain and vitality were all negatively correlated with SLEDAI (r:-0.20,-0.19,-0.19,-0.19,-0.21 respectively; P<0.05).The scores of patients with severe disease activity were significantly increased in the physical functioning of SLEQOL than other three groups (18±10 vs 11±5,12±6,13±7; P<0.05).Scores on the Health transition of patients with moderate and severe disease activity were lower than those of whom with mild disease activity (23±28.14±17 vs 34±39,P<0.05).Patients with mild or severe disease activity had lower score than those of patieuts in disease inactive (30±41,34±39 vs 44±44,P<0.05).Multiple linear regression analyses showed that disease duration and education level might be the influencing factors of SLEQOL.Conclusion QOL of patients with SLE is related to the level of disease activity and is impacted by disease duration and education.
