2.Association Between Infection of Human Papillomavirus and Decreased Expression of Cyclin DI in Cervical Neoplasia.
Korean Journal of Gynecologic Oncology and Colposcopy 1999;10(4):315-323
Cyclin Dl, one of Gl cyclin gene subfamily, and human papillomaviruses (HPV) oncoprotein E7 have a homology in binding sites for the retinoblastoma tumor-suppressor protein. In order to evaluate the role of cyclin Dl in human cervical carcinogenesis, the level of its expression was measured and compared to HPV infection. In these studies, 38 normal control cases, 22 carcinoma in situ (CIN) cases, and 16 invasive cervical carcinomas were analyzed by immunocytochemistry and polymerase chain reactions for the detection of expression of cyclin Dl and infection of HPV type 16 and 18, respectively. The cyclin Dl expression was significantly lower in CIN and invasive carcinoma than normal control group regardless of HPV infection (p=0.026). The decreased expression of cyclin Dl in normal control group was not related with HPV infection. However, the levels of expression of cyclin Dl in CIN and invasive carcinoma were correlated with HPV 16and 18 (p 0.026). The expression of cyclin E was not changed in HPV 16 and 18 infected cases. These data provide the evidence that cyclin Dl expression in the lesions of cervical tumor is decreased and it is related with HPU infection.

Korean Journal of Community Nutrition 2000;5(2):185-192
As the percentage of the elderly in the population increases, research to identify the nutritional and health status of the elderly, to understand the factors influencing on them, and to delay aging have been done actively. It is necessary for these studies to be longitudinal. This study was carried out to assess the change of health-related habits such as dietary behaviors and smoking, alcohol drinking and exercising habit, and health status between previous study(1991/1994) and post study(1998) for middle-aged men and women living in Chonju. For the present study, the data of 63 pairs(23 men and 40 women) were analyzed. They were 11 men and 12 women followed up from 82 men and 100 women surveyed in 1994. Mean ages in the 1991/4 and 1998 studies were 53.6y(range 42-63y) and 59.0y(range 46-72y) respectively. The survey was conducted with interview using a questionnaire including dietary behaviors and health-related habits, and anthropometric measurement and blood test for analyzing biochemical indices in 1991/4 and 1998. To understand these changes over time, chi2-statistics, t-test and paired t-test were analyzed with an SAS package program. As people age, there were significantly decreases in the proportions to eat lightly salted foods and drink alcohol. Significant longitudinal increases in triceps skin fold thickness, gamma-GPT and HDL-cholesterol and significant decrease in hemoglobin value were noted over time in both men and women. In addition a significant decrease in blood glucose level was noted over time in women. Weight, blood glucose and total cholesterol increased significantly with age in those had had breakfast regularly or those had not used more slat at the table in the past. From this study, were found out the subjects of this study had relatively desirable health-related habits. But as improper health-related habits are likely to result in inappropriate health status(eg, increase in WHR, triglyceride, total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol), it is recommended that nutrition education in necessary as soon as possible to meet the health elderly.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1974;12(4):305-308
Two cases of vitiligo-type hypomelanosis followed by the local application of Benoquin ointment for the treatment for the treatment of melasma are reported. These two cases of hypomelanosis are unwanted and unintended side effects probably caused by the application of monobenzyl ethers of hydrcquinone (monobenzone). Monobenzone blocks the enzyme tyrosinase and thereby prevents the conversion of tyrosine to dihydroxyphenylanine, a precursor of melanin, and since this does not destroy melanocyte or facilitate the loss of melanin. The skin contact with the material will not occur, repigmentation will slow but eventuaIly complete.

Korean Journal of Community Nutrition 2007;12(1):80-89
This study was performed to investigate the effectiveness of nutritional education and exercise intervention on reduction and maintenance of weight. The subjects were 24 obese women whose body mass index (BMI) was over 25 kg/m(2). Nutritional education was performed once a week and swimming was done three times a week throughout this 12 week program. The subjects were recalled 1 month after the program was complete. Nutrient intakes were assessed by 24 hour recall method. Also food habits, dietary behaviors and nutritional knowledge were investigated by self-administered questionnaires before and after the weight control program and one month after completing the program. Height, weight, body composition and blood levels were measured before and after the weight control program and one month after completing the program. During the 12 weeks of the weight control program, body weight significantly decreased from an average of 69.7 kg to 65.8 kg and to 65.1kg after one month (p < 0.05). Body fat and BMI also significantly decreased (p < 0.01). Cholesterol and blood sugar levels decreased after 12 weeks and increased one month after completing the program. After taking nutritional education, the nutritional knowledge scores increased. Calcium intake significantly increased after completing the education and one month after completing the program (p < 0.01). Iron intake significantly decreased from an average of 12.1 g to 11.3 g after completing the program and increased to 15.5 g one month after completing the progrom (p < 0.001). We concluded that our nutritional education and exercise program was effective for reducing and maintaining weight.

The purpose of this study was to investigate children's nutrient intakes by school lunch. Evaluation of nutrient intakes by school lunch for three days was conducted with 86 children in urban and 64 children in rural of Jeonbuk area. The results of this study were as follows. 1) With respect to amounts of provided nutrients in school lunch, CPF (carbohydrate : protein : fat) energy ratio was 48.6 : 19.7 : 31.6 in urban and was 46.7 : 20.5 : 32.7 in rural. Compared to 1/3 RDA (RDA) of children for 10-12 years, folic acid and zinc were provided below 50 % of RDA. Protein, fat, phosphorus, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, niacin, vitamin C and vitamin E were provided above 125 % of RDA. There were no differences in amounts of provided nutrients-except calcium, vitamin A, vitamin B6, folic acid and zinc-between urban and rural. 2) With respect to amounts of nutrient intakes, CPF energy ratio was 51.1 : 17.4 : 31.5 in urban and 47.5 : 19.7 : 32.7 in rural. Compared to RDA, folic and zinc were below 50 % of RDA. Iron and vitamin B6 were below 75 % of RDA. Protein, fat, phosphorus and vitamin E were above 125 % of RDA. There were significant differences in nutrient intakes between urban and rural. The children in rural showed higher levels of nutrient intakes-energy, carbohydrate, protein, fat, calcium, phosphorus, iron, zinc, vitamins and folic acid-compared to those of children in urban. These results suggest that programs are needed for providing adequate nutrient intakes for children in school lunch and for improving nutrient intakes of children in urban.

Korean Journal of Gynecologic Oncology and Colposcopy 1996;7(3):243-247
Mural nodules in ovarian mucinous tumors, whether benign, borderline, or malignant, have been described by several authors since Prat and Scully first described sarcoma or sarcoma-like mural nodules occurring in association with mucinous epithelial neoplasia in 1979. Three distinct types of the mural nodule have been identified; i. e., 1) sarcoma-like lesion, 2) true mesenchymal sarcome, and 3) anaplastic carcinoma simulating a sarcoma. Mural nodules of sarcomatous and carcinomatous foci associated with mucinous ovarian tumors should be separated from sarcoma-like nodules because of the poor prognosis of the former compared to the favorable prognosis of the latter. We experienced a case of ovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinoma with sarcoma-appearing mural nodule of anaplastic carcinoma occurred in a 59-year-old woman and reported with brief review of the literatures.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1996;30(4):344-346
Angiomyofibroblastoma is a distinctive, hitherto uncharacterized, benign soft tissue tumor of the vulva with histology similar to an aggressive pelvic angiomyxoma. It can be distinguished from an aggressive angiomyxoma by its circumscribed borders, higher cellularity, more numerous blood vessels, the frequent presence of plump stromal cells, minimal stromal mucin, and rarity of erythrocyte extravasation. We experienced a case of angiomyofibroblastoma of the vulva occurring in a 45-year-old woman. The lesion was a well-defined but not encapsulated mass, 4.5x4.2 cm. Histologically the mass was characterized by alternating hypercellular and hypocellular edematous zones in which abundant blood vessels were irregularly distributed. Immunohistochemically, the spindled, plump spindled, and oval stromal cells were reactive for vimentin and desmin, but not for cytokeratin, or S-100 protein.
