PURPOSE: This study aimed to identify the difference of sexual knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of college students who fulfilled military service and those who did not, for providing basic data for developing nursing interventions for the college students. METHODS: This study used a descriptive research design. The subjects of this study were 3,741 male college students. Data were collected through personal interviews using questionnaires from November to December 2007. The sexual knowledge, attitudes, and behavior measurement tool was used. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test and chi-square test. RESULTS: The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) There was a statistically significant difference in sexual knowledge of contraception / abortion(p = .002, t = 3.16), venereal disease(p = .006, t = .2.73), sexual attitude of sexual behavior(p = .002; t = 3.13) and sexual double think(p = .047, t = 1.98) according to military service 2) There was a statistically significant difference in sexual behavior experience frequency of 9 items(friendship with opposite sex, kiss / embracing, petting, porno magazine / porno video contact, masturbation, sexual intercourse via anus, sexual intercourse via mouth, cause pregnancy, cause abortion: p < .000, chi-sqare = 39.47; p < .000, chi-sqare = 55.88; p < .000, chi-sqare = 46.76; p = .034, chi-sqare = 6.77; p = .017, chi-sqare = 12.05; p = .003, chi-sqare = 14.24; p < .000, chi-sqare = 47.70; p < .000, chi-sqare = 23.86; p < .000, chi-sqare = 21.84) respectively according to military service. CONCLUSION: The results of this study indicate that sexual knowledge, attitudes and behavior differ before and after the experience of military service, so further study for detecting military sex culture character effecting difference in sex knowledge, attitudes and behavior is needed.

Steroid eye drop has a poterntial risk of ocular hypertension, secondary infection, corneal astigmatic change due to delayed wound healing and recent small incision cataract surgery has a minimal risk of ocular inflammation, so we compared the steroid eye drop with NSAID (nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug) eye drop in corneal astigmatic change and ocular inflammation. We performed small incision cataract surgery with phacoemulsification, foldable IOL, one horizontal suture at cornescleral wound in 79 eyes(Fluouometholon 0.1%(r) : 55eyes, Profenal 1%(r) : 24eyes) and used each eye drop and followed the change of corneal astigamitism at postoperative 1 day, 1 week, 3 week, 2 month, 5 month. In Fluorometholon 0.1%(r) group, Corneal astigmatic change showed +0.32 diopter at 1 day, -0.03 diopter at 1 week, -0.11 diopter at 3 week, +0.40 diopter at 2 month, -0.37 diopter at 5 month. In Profenal 1%(r) group, the astigmatic change showed +0.06 diopter, +0.07 diopter, -0.26 diopter, -0.12 diopter, -0.11 diopter at each follow up, which is smaller than that of Fluorometholon 0.1%(r) group. No serious complication was revealed in both groups. The present developed cataract surgery has a tendency of smaller incision, short operation time, minimal postoperative inflammation and steroid eye drop which is used for the prevention of postoperative inflammation has a potential risk of various complication, so NSAID eye drop which showed earlier astigmatic stabilization can safely replace or used together with the steroid eye drop.

Choroid plexus tumors are uncommon brain tumors that primarily occur in children. Most of these tumors originate from the intraventricular area, and the most common clinicalpresentation is increased intracranial pressure. Dissemination through the cerebrospinal fluid space is the inevitable natural course of the disease. Here, we present 2 rare cases of adult choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC), each with distinct clinical presentation and progression. The first case was a 40-year-old male who presented with multiple intraventricular masses. After surgical biopsy, radiation and intrathecal chemotherapy failed to elicit any response. The patient progressed with spinal cord dissemination and expired 1 year later. The second case presented with visual disturbance, and brain MRI revealed a large ovoid juxtaventricular mass with peritumoral edema. This 49-year-old female patient underwent craniotomy for what was thought to be a high-grade glioma; however, the mass was connected to the choroid plexus at the operative field. Her pathology specimen was diagnosed as CPC, and adjuvant systemic chemotherapy was administered. She has now been free of recurrence for 10 months. The description of the presentation and progression of these rare adult-onset CPC provides insight for the diagnosis and treatment of other rare instances of choroid plexus tumors.

Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome (SLOS) is a rare, autosomal recessive disease caused by an inborn error in cholesterol synthesis. Patients with this disease suffer from multiple malformations due to reduced activity of 7-dehydrocholesterol reductase (DHCR7), which increases 7-dehydrocholesterol (7DHC) and 8-dehydrocholesterol (8DHC) concentrations and decreases cholesterol concentration in body fluids and tissue. The SLOS phenotypic spectrum ranges from a mild disorder with behavioral and learning problems to a lethal disease characterized by multiple malformations. Here, we describe a newborn male with ambiguous genitalia who was diagnosed to have type II SLOS during the neonatal period. A clinical examination revealed low levels of unconjugated estriol in the maternal serum, and a variety of fetal ultrasound anomalies, including prenatal growth retardation. After birth, the infant was diagnosed to have congenital heart disease (Tetralogy of Fallot with severe pulmonary artery stenosis), cleft lip and palate, micrognathia, postaxial polydactyly, ambiguous genitalia, and cataracts. Clinical investigation revealed extremely low plasma cholesterol levels and the presence of mutation (homozygote of p.Arg352Gln) in the DHCR7 gene. The patient underwent palliative heart surgery (to widen the pulmonary artery) and received intravenous lipid supplementation. Cholesterol levels increased slightly, but not to normal values. The patient died from cardiopulmonary failure and sepsis 72 days after birth. This report provides the first description of a Korean patient with SLOS confirmed by verification of DHCR7 gene mutation and illustrates the need for early recognition and appropriate diagnosis of this disease.

BACKGROUND: Propofol, a new intravenous anesthetic agent, is now used for brief operation and day surgery for its rapid recovery and controllability. Propofol, rapid acting sedatives hypnotics, is known to no analgesic effect. This study was taken to evaluate the analgesic effect of propofol, compared to those of fentanyl. METHODS: Forty patients (ASA physical status 1, 2) scheduled for surgery of short duration (within 1 hour) were randomly allocated into two groups. Induction of anesthesia was performed by injection of thiopental (5 mg/kg) and succinylcholine (1 mg/kg) and ventilated with O2-N2O (50%) after endotracheal intubation. Maintenance of anesthesia was performed by vecuronium (1 mg/kg) and continuous infusion of propofol (group I) or fentanyl (group II). RESULTS: There was no significant differences in systolic and diastolic blood pressure in both groups. In heart rate, there was significant difference at preincision and postincision between two groups. Time to extubation (4.5 +/- 4.6 vs 6.3 +/- 4.6 min), time to eye open (7.5 +/- 7.1 vs 6.6 +/- 5.4 min), time to complain pain after stop dropping at recovery room (30.5 +/- 8.0 vs 35.5 +/- 17.9 min), the average flow rate of drugs (6.0 +/- 2.2 mg/kg/hr vs 6.7 +/- 2.4 microgram/kg/hr) has no significant difference between two groups. CONCLUSIONS: A single continuous infusion of propofol is applied as one of general anesthesia methods with O2-N2O, muscle relaxants. Propofol has a appropriate and similar analgesic effect compared with fentanyl in operation of little hemodynamic changes and short operation, and rapid recovery compared with fentanyl.

Adenomyoepithelioma (AME) is a rare breast lesion with balanced proliferation of both epithelial and myoepithelial cells. Patients usually present with a solitary mass without pain and nipple discharge. Although the tumor is generally considered benign, it has potential for local recurrence, metastasis, or malignant change. Approximately 150 cases have been reported in the medical literature, of which 40 cases were malignant or potentially malignant. But among them, elastographic findings have been reported in only two cases and still remain unclear. Herein, we now present a case of breast AME with emphasis on elastography.

Intraflagellar transport (IFT) particles, a multi-protein apparatus composed of complex A and B, are known to be involved in homeostasis of flagella formation. IFT particles have recently become an interesting topic in Giardia lamblia, which has 4 pairs of flagella. In this experiment, we examined the function of giardial IFT components. When 7 components (IFT121, 140, 20, 46, 52, 81, and 88) of IFT were expressed in Giardia trophozoites as a tagged form with mNeonGreen, all of them were found in both flagella pores and cytoplasmic axonemes. In addition, motor proteins for IFT particles (kinesin-13 and kinesin-2b), were localized to a median body and cytoplasmic flagella, respectively. The CRISPRi-mediated knockdown of IFT88 significantly affected the lengths of all 4 flagella compared to the control cells, Giardia expressing dead Cas9 using control guide RNA. Decreased expression of kinesin-2b also resulted in shortening of flagella, excluding the ventral flagella. Live Giardia cells expressing IFT88-mNeonGreen clearly demonstrated fluorescence in flagella pores and cytoplasmic axonemes. These results on IFT88 and kinesin-2b indicate that IFT complex plays a role in maintenance of G. lamblia flagella.
