1.A Study on the Correlation Between Perceived Social Support and Hope of the Preoperative Patients.
Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing 1997;9(3):480-494
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between social support and hope of preoperative patients. The subjects in this study were 130 preoperative patients in 2 hospitals in Kunsan. The instruments used for this study: This social support scale developed by Park(1985). Hope scale developed by Miler(1988), the hope scale was modified by adding some items relevant to preoperative patients, when tested for reliability, the cronbach's alpha score was 0.93. The data was analysed by t-test, correlation coefficient, and ANOVA using SAS program. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The mean score of social support was 3.13 and the mean score of hope was 3.03. 2. The hypothesis of this study, "The higher the degree of social support perceived by the patient, the higher the degree of hope", was supported (T=6.47, p=0.0001 r=0.49). 3. 1) General characteristics were related to the degree of social support: sex, occupation, economic level, education level(p<0.05). 2) General characteristics were related to the degree hope: sex, occupation, economic level, medical treatment expenses, house possession state, operative department, economic level(p<0.05). For these subject, there was a significant relationship between social support and the degree of hope. The nurse should plan interventions to inspire hope level by social support with preoperative patient If so, their coping ability and well-being level may be promoted.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2004;34(7):1224-1233
PURPOSE: This study was to investigate the effects of problem solving group counseling on the index of obesity and health habits for obese children. METHOD: Forty seven obese children participated in the study(Exp.=22, Cont.=25). Children were recruited from the forth and fifth grade withhigher than 20% of the obesity degree. The problem solving counseling lasted for 10 weeks. In order to evaluate the effects of counseling, physical characteristics and health habits were measured three times; pretest, posttest, and at 10 weeks follow-up. The obtained data was analyzed by Chi-squared-test, t-test, and repeated measures ANOVA, using the SPSS WIN 10.0program. RESULT: Problem solving group counseling was effective on the physical characteristics(BMI, obesity degree, body fat ratio, waist measurement) and health habits over time. Children in the experimental group controlled their body weight better and reported lower scores in the index of obesity than children in the control group at 10 weeks follow-up. CONCLUSION: This counseling program helped obese children modify their health habits so that they could decrease their scores in the obesity index. It can be concluded that problem-solving counseling enhanced problem-solving abilities of obese children, which could help modify their ordinary health habits.

Korean Journal of Blood Transfusion 2010;21(3):223-229
BACKGROUND: ABO subgroups are obstacles in blood typing and cross matching in the process of pre-transfusion. Correct ABO typing is important for ensuring safety of a transfusion. The ABO subgroups contain a lesser amount of antigen on red cells and this is a common cause of discrepancy between the results of cell and serum tests. This study was performed to analyze the frequency and distribution of the ABO subgroups in Korean blood donors. METHODS: ABO blood grouping was performed by an automated analyzer (PK7200/7300, Olympus, Japan) for the 3,397,983 donors from January 2007 to December 2009. The 1,868 donor samples that were suspected to have ABO subgroups were tested with adsorption/elution techniques. The results of the tests were analyzed and we received approval of the Institutional Review Board of the Korean Red Cross to publish this study. RESULTS: 1,771 donors out of the 1,868 donors who underwent the tests were finally identified as having ABO subgroups. The kinds of identified ABO subgroups were as follows; 118 donors with the A subgroup (A2, A3, Ax, Am, Ael), 237 donors with the B subgroup (B3, Bx, Bm, Bel) and 1,416 donors with the AB subgroup (A2B, A2B3, A1B3, AmB, A1Bm, A1Bel, AxB, A1Bx). The most frequently observed subgroups were A2B (496/1,868, 26.55%) and then A2B3 (457/1,868, 24.46%). The subgroups of 97 donors (5.19%) were not identified. CONCLUSION: This study was meaningful to provide data on the frequency and distribution of the ABO subgroups of Korean blood donors. A more sensitive technique such as genotyping could be useful to resolve cases with an unidentified subgroup.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1985;19(3):345-349
Neurofibromatosis, first clearly described by von Recklinghausen in 1882, is a dominantly inherited mesodermal and ectodermal dysplasia with a broad spectrum of clinical findings. Most common is the classical neurofibromatosis, which has three major features: (1) multiple neural tumors dispersed anywhere on or in the body; (2) numerous pigmented skin lesions, some of which are "cafe au lait" spots; and (3) pigmented iris hamartomas also called Lisch nodules. Other lesions sometimes seen in patients with von Recklinghausen's disease include congenital malformations of various types, vascular lesions, neurilemoma meningioma and other intracranial neoplasms, pheochromocytoma, medullary carcinoma of thyroid gland, neuroblastoma, ganglioneuroma and Wilms' tumor. Approximately 10% of the patients with neurofibromatosis have the gastrointestinal tract tumors as neurofibroma, ganglioneuroma and leiomyoma. Some of them show evidence of malignancy. Increased activity of the protein "nerve growth factor" in the sera of the patients with disseminated neurofibromatosis has been reported. We would like to report here two cases of von Recklinghausen's neurofibromatosis with involvement of the gastrointestinal tract.

This study was performed to assess the effect of one year's of meal service for home-staying urban elderly with low incole on their nutritional status. One hundred and eighty three subjects, who had already completed the first nutritional survey, were assigned to two group : meal served(served) and non-meal served(non-served). A meal containing approximately on half of the RDA for energy, protein, calcium and iron was served as lunch everyday to served group. After on year of meal service, follow-up-nutritional survey was done and changes of parameters were analyzed with paired t-test. Served female showed signficantly increased intake of riboflavin and calcium, while non-served female showed significantly decreased intake of calcium. Serum total protein, serum albumin and serum cholesterol were significantly increased in female regardless of meal service. Served remale was observed with significantly elevated LDL-cholesterol, whereas non-served female showed singnificantly lowered HDL-cholesterol. Significantly decreased serum iron, serum transferrin saturaion and significantly increased TIBC were observed for female regardless of meal service. But the proportion of anemic elderly according to Hb or serum iron was decreased more in served group. Female showed significantly increased serum zinc and copper regardless of meal service, whereas only served male showed significantly increased serum copper.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 1999;28(3):373-377
Ependymomas are originated from the ependymal cells and are mostly confined to the central nervous system. Rarely, they may occur in extradural sites such as skin or subcutaneous tissue of sacrococcygeal region. The myxopapillary ependymoma is the most common type of ependymoma in the sacrococcygeal region. We operated on 54-years old female with a sacrococcygeal mass. Tumor was removed totally and histologic study revealed as myxopapillary ependymoma. Clinicopathologic features are discussed along with pertienent literature.
