1.Influence of Authentic Leadership and Coworker Support on the Psychological Well-being of Staff Nurses

PURPOSE: This descriptive study investigated the effects of authentic leadership and coworker support on psychological well-being of staff nurses. METHODS: The participants were 166 staff nurse working in university hospital located in D city. Data were collected from July 1 2017 to 31, 2017. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical regression. RESULTS: The regression model that included demographics and coworker support explained about 40.0% of psychological well-being. Marital status, nurse satisfaction, turnover experience, and coworker support were the predictors of psychological well-being in staff nurses. CONCLUSION: Coworker support was an important predictor of the psychological well-being of staff nurse. Therefore, strategics to improve coworker support are needed to increase psychological well-being in the clinical field.

2.The Effect of Head Nurse's Emotional Leadership on Nurse's Job Satisfaction & Organizational Commitment.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of head nurse's emotional leadership on nurse's job satisfaction & organizational commitment. METHODS: The subjects of this study were 385 nurses from four general hospitals and one university hospital. SPSS WIN 14.0 was used for data analysis. RESULTS: Stepwise multiple regression analyses were used to examine the influences of research variables. The variable which predict nurse's job satisfaction were head nurse's emotional leadership (F=76.027, p<.01, adjusted R square=.166). The variables which predict organizational commitment were emotional leadership (F=27.839, p<.01, adjusted R square=.066), marital status (F=20.928, p<.01 adjusted R square=.03), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: As a result of this study, head nurse's emotional leadership was defined as a important influential on both job satisfaction and organizational commitment of nurses. Therefore, it is needed to develop education programs for activating head nurse's emotional leadership.

3.Influences of Interpersonal Problems and Character of Nurses on Quality of Nursing Service

PURPOSE: In this descriptive correlation study, an investigation was done of the effects of interpersonal problems and character of nurses on the quality of nursing service. METHODS: The participants were 154 clinical nurses working in hospitals located in C province and D city. Data were collected from February 1 to May 31, 2018. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and hierarchical regression. RESULTS: Interpersonal problems correlated negatively with character and quality of nursing service. Character was positively correlated with quality of nursing service. Participants' age, marital status, education level, position, interpersonal problems and character explained 52.0% of variance in quality of nursing service. CONCLUSION: The findings indicate that interpersonal problems and character are important factors to be considered in working to improve nursing service quality. Therefore, systematic programs to reduce interpersonal problems and enhance nurses' character level should be developed.

4.An Analytic Study on Influencing Factors for Sexual Satisfaction in Climacteric Women.

PURPOSE: This study was undertaken in order to examine the factors related to sexual satisfaction in climacteric women. METHOD: This was a descripitive correlation study. The subjects were 544 women in climacteric stage. Data were analyzed a using of descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with a SPSS WIN11.0. RESULTS: The predictors of sexual satisfaction were age, education, marital status, family income, number of delivery, hormone therapy, body image, state anxiety, trait anxiety, spouse support. These factors explained 57.6% of the total variance. CONCLUSION: These finding suggest the need to develope nursing strategy to improve the sexual satisfaction in climacteric women. To improve the climacteric women's sexual satisfaction, the above major influencing factors should be considered.

5.Dementia Knowledge and Related Factors in Middle-aged Adults.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the level of knowledge about dementia and to find the related factors in middle-aged adults. METHOD: The research design was a descriptive study by using a constructive self-report questionnaire with 34 items. Data were collected from 397 middle-aged adults using structured questionnaire. Data analysis was done by SPSS/WIN Programs using frequency, range from minimum to maximum, percentage, mean, SD, chi-square-test, t-test, ANOVA, and Duncan's Multiple Range test. RESULTS: The rate of correct answer of middle-aged adults was 68.7%, showing the mid-level of knowledge about dementia. There were significant differences according to age, education, marital status, job, income, information and information sources for dementia in middle-aged adults. CONCLUSION: These results indicate that Korean middle-aged adults need more education and counseling on dementia. Further studies are needed to overcome regionalism in sampling of this study and to develop standard measuring tools for the level of knowledge about dementia.

6.The Study of Fatigue, Perceived Health Status, Marital Adjustment and Stress in Middle Aged Women.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to explain the relationship between fatigue and other variables(perceived health status, marital adjustment and stress), and define the main factors influencing fatigue in middle aged women. METHODS: Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires from 212 middle aged women. Data analysis was done with the SPSS 11.0 pc+ program for descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. RESULTS: The mean score of fatigue was 2.30(+/-0.46), perceived health status was 2.82(+/-0.68), marital adjustment was 2.86(+/-0.44), and stress was 2.43(+/-0.61). There were significant correlations between fatigue and the other variables(r=.56-.21, p=.00). The major factors that affect fatigue in middle aged women were stress, perceived health status, and marital adjustment, which explained 35.2% of fatigue. CONCLUSION: These variables have an effect on middle aged women's fatigue. Therefore, these findings can provide the basis for the development of nursing interventions to manage fatigue.

7.Predictors of Health-related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in the Home-dwelling Disabled Persons by using EQ-5D: Results from the 3rd Korea National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey 2005.

PURPOSE: This study was a secondary data analysis aimed at identifying the predictors of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of the home-dwelling disabled person by using EQ-5D which is a standardized instrument used as a measure of health outcome. METHODS: Data were drawn from the 3rd Korea National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW). Subjects were 1,021 home-dwelling disabled persons over 19 years of age. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson's correlation, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, and Stepwise multiple regression. RESULTS: HRQoL (Health Related Quality of Life) is differentiated within age, genders, educational level, employment status, economic status, types and grades of disability, health problems associated with limited mobility, and the limited duration of time. HRQoL is correlated with age, number of cohabiters, educational level, grades of disability, activities of daily living (ADL), and instrumental ADL (IADL). HRQoL is significantly associated with ADL, health problems in connection with limited mobility, employment status, types of disability, marital status, grades of disability, and the limited duration of time. These factors explained 63.7% of variance in HRQoL. CONCLUSION: HRQoL among the disabled is related to their characteristics, ADL, and IADL. For this reason, it is necessary to develop health programs to promote those variables required to improve HRQoL.

8.Employment and Married Women's Health in Korea; Beneficial or Harmful?.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate whether working married women in different occupational classes affected diverse health outcomes. METHODS: We used data for married women aged 25-59 (N=2,273) from the 2005 National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey. Outcome measures included physical/mental and subjective/objective indicators (self-rated poor health, chronic diseases, depression, and suicidal ideation from reported results; metabolic syndrome and dyslipidemia from health examination results). Age-standardized prevalence and logistic regression were employed to assess health status according to three types of working groups (housewives, married women in manual jobs, married women in non-manual jobs). Sociodemographic factors (age, numbers of children under 7, education, household income) and health behaviors (health examination, sleep, rest, exercise, smoking, drinking) and a psychological factor (stress) were considered as covariates. RESULTS: Non-manual married female workers in Korea showed better health status in all five health outcomes than housewives. The positive health effect for the non-manual group persisted in absolute (age-adjusted prevalence) and relative (odds ratio) measures, but multivariate analyses showed an insignificant association of the non-manual group with dyslipidemia. Manual female workers showed significantly higher age-adjusted prevalence of almost all health outcomes than housewives except chronic disease, but the associations disappeared after further adjustment for covariates regarding sleep, rest, and stress. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that examining the health impact of work on married women requires the consideration of occupational class.

9.Factors Affecting Daycare Center Teachers' Management of Childhood Fever.

PURPOSE: The purposes of this study were to investigate daycare teachers'knowledge, anxiety and management of childhood fever and to identify factors affecting their management of childhood fever. METHODS: A descriptive correlation study was conducted. Participants were 109 daycare center teachers from G metropolitan city. A self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. RESULTS: The mean percent of correct answers for knowledge about childhood fever was 42.9%. Levels of anxiety related to children's fever were high among day care teachers in this study. Many daycare center teachers used management practices which were not recommended for childhood fever management. There was a statistically significant difference in participants' knowledge about childhood fever by marital status and having a child. Moreover, there were statistically significant positive correlation between daycare center teachers' knowledge and management and negative correlation between daycare center teachers' anxiety and management of childhood fever. Knowledge and anxiety related to childhood fever accounted for 15.2% of variance for fever management. CONCLUSION: Results show that day care teachers' knowledge and anxiety related to fever are important factors in predicting their fever management. Development and evaluation of educational interventions to improve daycare teachers' childhood fever management are recommended.

10.Comparing Organizational Commitment, Nursing Organization Culture, and Job Satisfaction of Korean Nurses Working in Korea and the U.S..

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to examine the differences in organizational commitment, nursing organization culture, and job satisfaction of Korean nurses employed in Korea and the United States, and to determine how these variables were associated with selected study characteristics. METHODS: An exploratory cross-sectional study was performed with a convenience sample of 357 nurses from Korea and the U.S. Data were collected by using a web site survey and self-reported questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficients were used for data analysis. RESULTS: In comparison to Korean American nurses (KAN), Korean nurses (KN) were younger, single, worked more time, took a charge role or higher, and had less turnover experience. After controlling for age and marital status, nursing organization culture and job satisfaction of KN were significantly lower than those of KAN, respectively (F= -26.02, p<.001; F= -4.87, p=.028). Significant relationships among selected socio-demo-health and work-related characteristics and the three variables were higher for KN. CONCLUSION: Higher organizational commitment and nursing organization culture from all Korean nurses were related their perceived high level of job satisfaction. Recommendations for further study include exploring a larger sample size of a variety of different types of nursing organizations and staff as well.
