The relationship between adjunctive drug (AD) and other drugs in a compound prescription and the actions of AD are very complex. From historical view, it showed the adjunctive action of AD was only be recognized with emphasis on its action as corrigent and effect on complications. In modern medicine, the actions of AD were reduced to 3 aspects: the assistant action, the restrained action and the corrigent action, with new contents added in each aspect on the basis of the ancient understanding. The authors hold that to master the various actions of AD and its relationship with other drugs in the prescription would be helpful in choosing them accurately and scientifically, thus to contribute the treatment in accordance with disease.

TCM syndrome differentiation system (TCM-SDS) possesses a complex nonlinear characteristic, which determines the falt that the evaluation of TCM efficacy should not be simplified to a causal or linear relationship. Previous selected indexes and methods for evaluating curative effect of Child's pneumonia have their limitations. This paper mainly introduces several thoughts and methods formed in the exploratory researches, employing data mining technology in this field. We believe that efficacy evaluation research of Child's pneumonia on the basis of standardized study of TCM-SDS is a scientific work. Applying data mining method in processing enormous and multilayer information of TCM differentiation has strong advantages in screening evaluating indexes of Child's pneumonia. Meanwhile, some major concerning technical categorizations and implementing strategies for the research are also introduced.

Notopterygium incisum is the important medicinal materials of the Tibetan-Qiang medical system in China, also one of the rare and endangered medicinal materials in the Plateau areas in the meantime. Taking the planting of in Sichuan province as an example, research on the N. incisum in Sichuan utilize remote sensing and GIS techniques, bind growth environment factor, including height factor, average annual precipitation, average annual temperature, forest information, were chosen according to habitat conditions. And combine field measurement to verify. The results indicate that N. incisum resources in Sichuan province were mainly distributed in the alpine valley and the northwest of the plateau, which suitability distribution areas of 4145 km2 approximately and accounting for 2% of the total area. Suitability areas accounting for more than 2% of the respective total area in Heishui county, Lixian county, Xiaojin county, Kangding county, ect. According to the field investigation and the related document information record, drawn that the suitability distribution based on RS and GIS were corresponded with the actual distribution areas of N. incisum resources. It's feasible to divide the suitability distribution area of N. incisum using RS and GIS, which will provide a scientific basis for a comprehensive investigation of the distribution as well as its rational exploitation and protection.

OBJECTIVETo improve the diagnosis and treatment of primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNET) of the pancreas.
METHODSOne patient with PNET of the pancreas was reported in this article. The corresponding literatures on the diagnosis and treatment was reviewed.
RESULTSThe patient was diagnosed as pancreatic PNET by her clinical, microscopic, and immunohistochemical features as well as cytogenetic analysis after the resection of the tumor located in the uncinate process in PUMC Hospital. Radiochemotherapy was given after the operation for 8 months and no recurrence was observed. Since PNET of pancreas have no specific clinical symptoms and most patients have jaundice and/or abdominal pain, the diagnosis depended on the immunohistochemical features of positive P30/32(MIC2) and at least two of the neural markers. The cytogenetic analysis showed translocation mainly harbored the characteristic t (11; 22) (q24; q12). Since pancreatic PNET were highly aggressive, early chemotherapy, close follow-up, and immediate surgical interventions were required as early as possible.
CONCLUSIONPNET can occur in pancreas, and diagnosis and treatment should be made as early as possible to improve the outcome.

Journal of Central South University(Medical Sciences) 2007;32(2):316-319
OBJECTIVE:
To analyze the evaluation and treatment of blood loss during total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in the aged .
METHODS:
We retrospectively surveyed the blood loss and the rehabilitation of 46 cases of TKA and 146 cases of THA older than 60.
RESULTS:
In the group younger than 70, the mean total blood loss of THA was 1425 mL and the hidden hemorrhage 729 mL (51%); following the TKA, the mean total loss was 1386 mL and the hidden hemorrhage was 890 mL (64%). In the group 70 and older, the mean total blood loss of THA was 1435 mL and the hidden hemorrhage was 769 mL (53%)û following the TKA, the mean total loss was 1380 mL and the hidden hemorrhage was 910 mL (65%). The difference of hidden hemorrhage between the THA and the TKA was both significant by different (p< 0.05). Age played an important part in the THA group (p< 0.05), but not in the TKA group (> 0.05).
CONCLUSION
The aged have poor resistance to blood loss. Hidden hemorrhage in the TKA or THA perhaps is the primary part of the blood loss. Prompt treatment is helpful for the rehabilitation.
