International Eye Science 2006;6(4):765-768
AIM: To explore the anatomical changes of the optic nerve head in cats after radial optic neurotomy (RON).METHODS: The normal anatomic data were obtained from 12 healthy cats. A total of 18 healthy cats were used in the experiment, which were divided into four groups: each operative group was executed at the :Lst, 15th, 30th, 90th day after undergoing RON unilaterally.(six in 1st group). The enucleated eyes of each operative group were cut section routinely and embedded in paraffin, the cross sections were stained by special staining.RESULTS: At the 1st day after operation, the incision came into being and connected with cerebral subarachnoid space of orbital optic nerve. At 15th day, incision was fusiform and hyperplastic neuroglial cells and fibroblasts aggregated at the incision. At 30th day, there was obvious proliferation of type fibril at the neurotomy. The aligned texture of collagen fibril of the lamina cribrosa near the incision was moved close to each other. At the 90th day, a discrete scar was noted at the site which reached the cribriform and sclera.CONCLUSION: RON can cut scleral ring and piamater of optic nerve sharply. The incision of RON connects with subarachnoid space of orbital optic nerve and becomes broaden gradually at the site of scleral ring. The potential role of incision of RON is relevant to the subject.

ObjectiveTo investigate the pattern of the relationship of craniopharyngiomas with pituitary stalks and hypothalamus. Furthermore, based on different patterns affirmed during the operations, surgical strategies were designed for radical excision. MethodsA series of 66 patients with primary suprasellar craniopharyngiomas were treated with microsurgical techniques and the relationships of the craniopharyngiomas with pituitary stalk and hypothalamus were analyzed prospectively. Appropriate surgical approaches were selected preoperatively according to the lesion's sizes and expanding directions. The relationships of the lesions to the pituitary stalks and hypothalamus were identified in detail and dissected carefully with protection of perforating vessels. ResultsThe patterns that pituitary stalks were involved by craniopharyngiomas were identified in 36 cases and divided into four types: no relation (5 cases), adhesion (10 cases), partial invasion (8 cases) and total invasion (13 cases). The anterior floor of the third ventricle was involved in 42 cases, in which it disappeared totally in 10 cases. Total resection was achieved in 58 case, subtotal resection in 8 cases. Diabetes insipidus (DI) was identified in 44 cases postoperatively. No surgical mortality, no recurrence was found during follow-up of mean 35 months. ConclusionThe appropriate selection of surgical approaches preoperatively, careful identification and according treatment of the relationships of the tumors with pituitary stalks and hypothalamus are the keys to protect the pituitary stalk; hypothalamus in craniopharyngiomas resection in adults.

Objective To assess the values of TIMI myocardial perfusion grade (TMP), corrected TIMI frame count (CTFC), sum-ST-segment resolution (sumSTR), max-ST-segment deviation (maxSTE) in judging myocardial perfusion and to predict their clinical outcomes. Methods In 77 patients with AMI, methods of TMP, maxSTE, sumSTR, CTFC were used to judge myocardial perfusion grade respectively immediately after PCI. Sixty-five patients underwent 99m Tc-MIBI/ 18 FDG DISA SPECT within one months after PCI, in-hospital heart faiures and cardiac events in the 6 months were recorded. Results Compared with 99m Tc-MIBI/ 18 FDG DISA SPECT, sensitivity, specificity, accuracy of TMP, CTFC, maxSTE, sumSTR was calculated. Sensitivity, specificity, accuracy of maxSTE were 80%, 85.7%, 83.1% respectively; Those of TMP were 73.3%, 80%, 76.9%, respectively. But those of CTFC (40), CTFC (30), sumSTR (30%), sumSTR (50%) were lower. By multivariate analysis of TMP0/1, maxSTE was the independent risk factor for 6-month cardiac events. Conclusion TMP, maxSTE may better assess myocardial perfusion, and accurately predict the outcome in 6-months.

We present the binding ability of a new peptide (CMPQVMPMC-) with dental enamel after being evaluated in the present study. Under a standard procedure, the recovery of M13 filamentous phage was greatly enhanced by displaying the peptide in phage coat protein p III. Then the cyclic peptide was synthesized using a solid method. The effect of the cyclic peptide in vitro biomineralization was tested in a single-diffusion microtiter plate gel system. Absorbance at 405 nm of each sample was recorded for 24 h at every 6 h intervals. The relatively increased values of each sample were expressed as percentages relative to the blank group (100%). The cyclic peptide resulted in a concentration-dependent delayed nucleation. In addition, the overall values of peptide groups at the end of 24 h were lower than those in the control group but much higher than those in the BSA control group.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2009;15(8):728-731
Objective To investigate the cortical activities for processing exogenous stimulus-related information conflict and endogenous mental-related information conflict. Methods Event-related potentials (ERPs) were recorded while 15 healthy subjects performed a digit matching task. Each trial consisted of two sequentially presented digits (S1~S2), where S2 was either the same as S1 (S-) or different from S1 (S+) in digital value. Subjects pressed a button of a push-pad when S2 was the same as S1 and pressed the other button when S2 was different from S1 in the first session. Furtherly, they were required to calculate the difference between S1 and S2, and compare their calculation result with digit '3' in the second session. They pressed a button when the calculation result was equal to '3' (M-) and pressed the other button when it was not (M+). Three trial types were included: same numbers but their difference was not equal to '3' (S-M+), different numbers but their difference was '3' (S+M-) and different numbers but their difference was not '3' (S+M+). Results Following S2 onset, a component N270 was broadly elicited at all the scalps by S+, S+M- and S-M+. N270 and N400 were elicited in series by S+M+. The maximal amplitude of N270 was at the posterior scalp while the maximal amplitude of the N400 was at the central areas. Conclusion The different spatio-temporal distributions of the two negative potentials suggested that exogenous and endogenous information conflicts were serially processed in the human brain by the conflict processing system of multiple neural substrates.
