OBJECTIVETo study surgical techniques for degenerative lumbar scoliosis associated with lumbar stenosis and evaluate their clinical significane.
METHODSThirty-two patients with degenerative lumbar scoliosis associated with spinal stenosis were treated by techniques of posterior lumbar interbody fusion or posterolateral fusion and pedicle screws. There were 18 male and 14 female with 56.8 years old on the average (ranging from 49 to 75 years). There were no evident change of lumberlordosis in 15 cases, and lumber lordosis were obvious loss associated with lumbar subluxation in 17 cases. The correcting, the improvement of back and leg pain, complications and followed-up results were analyzed retrospectively.
RESULTSThirty-two cases were followed-up for 6 to 39 months (the average time of 13 months). The average correction rate of scoliosis was 58.0% and the rate of pain relief was (80.2 +/- 5.8)%. There were two cases of dura sac laceration, two cases of nerve roots injury and a case of pseudoarthritis. During followed-up, correction rate and height of disc spaces were not lost. Shift of interbody cages were no displaced; all the internal fixation got well fusion and the rate of fusion for the bone graft was 96.9%.
CONCLUSIONPosterior pedicle screws combined with interbody fusion or posterolateral fusion is a safe and effective surgical treatment for degenerative lumbar scoliosis associated with lumbar stenosis.

7.A review on genetic testing.
Chinese Journal of Biotechnology 2006;22(2):338-343
Nowadays genetic tests are available in a growing number of countries, for an expanding set of conditions. Nonetheless, many Chinese people are still not familiar with the principle, testing types, technologies used in this process, application and benefits to society, and national or international administration of genetic testing. It is essential that this increased use of genetic testing should be accompanied by appropriate oversight. This article has roughly reviewed the proceeding of genetic testing these years, which will help us learn more about the new coming era of human genetics and molecular medical revolutions.

Chinese Journal of Contemporary Pediatrics 2011;13(2):153-156
OBJECTIVETo study the effect of different concentrations of bilirubin on expression of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in cord blood monocytes (CBMC).
METHODSUnder the sterile condition, umbilical vein blood samples were obtained from normal full-term newborns, and the monocytes were in vitro separated by the method of gelatin/plasma coated flasks. The monocytes were preincubated with various concentrations (0-307.8 μmol/L) of bilirubin dissolved in bovine albumin solution for 1 hr. Bilirubin-treated CBMC were further cultured with LPS (1 μg/mL) to induce cellular activation for 24 hrs, and then the CBMC were collected. The expression of TLR4 in monocytes was measured by indirect immunofluorescence method.
RESULTSBilirubin at the concentrations of 102.6, 153.9, 220.6 and 307.8 μmol/L inhibited the expression of TLR4 of CBMC. The inhibition effect increased with the increasing concentration of bilirubin.
CONCLUSIONSBilirubin can inhibit the TLR4 expression of CBNC in a dose-dependent manner.

10.Research advances in definition deduction of adult respiratory distress syndrome
Chinese Journal of Trauma 2020;36(8):761-765
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), a common disease in ICU, is more difficult to treat with poor prognosis. Since it was described in 1967, the ARDS has been extensively studied, and the definition has undergone several revisions. The latest definition of ARDS is "Berlin Definition" , while the definition not associated with the pathological basis of ARDS has affected its guiding significance in the treatment of ARDS. Moreover there are significant distinctions in the results of ARDS treatment in different regions and specialties, making researchers far from stopping controversy over the definition of ARDS. The authors review the changes in the definition of ARDS and the existing controversies, hoping to deepen the understanding of the disease and bring new ideas for the treatment of ARDS.
