OBJECTIVETo observe the preconditioning cardioprotection of atorvastatin (ATV) in rabbits underwent 40 min ischemia and 240 min reperfusion and to explore related mechanisms.
METHODSThe rabbits were randomized divided into Control group, ATV group (10 mg.kg(-1).d(-1) for 3 days before ischemia), ATV plus iNOS inhibitor S-methylisothiourea sulfate group (ATV + SMT group), SMT group, ATV plus mito K(ATP) channel blocker 5-hydroxydecanoate group (ATV + 5-HD group) and 5-HD group (n = 16 each group). The infarction size, CK-MB, LDH-1, nitric oxide synthase and mitochondrial ATP synthesization capacity ([ATP] m) were determined at the end of reperfusion.
RESULTSInfarction size, CK-MB, LDH-1 were decreased by 26.3%, 31.4%, 19.1% and iNOS, [ATP] m increased by 102.6%, 46.8% post ATV compared to control group (all P < 0.05) and these effects could be blocked by cotreatment with SMT and 5-HD except the iNOS was not affected by 5-HD.
CONCLUSIONThe atorvastatin preconditioning exerted cardioprotection by upregulating iNOS and activating mito K(ATP).

Objective To study the effective hemostatic method for treating multiple trauma accompanied with hemorrhagic shock to increase the existence rate. Methods In treating 5 patients of multiple tauma accompanied with hemorrhagic shock, We used radiological embolism to injuried parenchymatous organs and injuried vessels to arrest the bleeding at first. After shock recovered, prompt exploration was made to repair injuried hollow viscus. Results After embolism and bleeding arrested, shocks in all 5 patients were corrected in short time; and no serious active hemorrhage was found after abdominal operation to repair the hollow viscus. All 5 patients survived after the operation. Conclusions The radiological embolism is simple, and has the little trauma and a good hemostatic effect, and needs short time. The method for treating multiple trauma can improve the salvage rate of multiple trauma accompanied with hemorrhagic shock and fit the treatment principle of multiple trauma.

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of integrative Chinese and Western medicine (ICWM) on improvement of the islet beta cell function in treating patients with latent autoimmune diabetes mellitus in adults (LADA).
METHODSEighty-four patients of LADA were randomly divided into 3 groups (20 in A, 33 in B and 31 in C), they were treated respectively with sulfonylurea, insulin and combination of insulin and Chinese medicine. The changes before and after treatment in blood glucose, glycohemoglobin and islet beta cell function were observed.
RESULTSAfter treatment, the damaged islet beta cell function in Group A was not improved, the secrete peak value of C-peptide was still low and delayed in Group A, but in Group B and C, it shifted earlier, suggesting that a certain degree of improvement and recovery of islet beta cell function. The improving effect in Group C was better.
CONCLUSIONChinese herbal medicine had effect in lowering blood glucose and improving islet beta cell function in patients with diabetes mellitus, and showed a synergistic and enhancing action when combined use with insulin. Early treatment of insulin or combination of insulin and Chinese medicine should be applied to patients with LADA.
