1.Sensitivity and specificity asan easy malaria P.f/P.v tests for diagnosis of P. falciparum and P. vivax in Vietnam
Journal of Malaria and parasite diseases Control 2003;0(6):10-14
Sensitivity and specificity of the Asan Easy Malaria P.f/P.v tests (made by Asan Korean Company) in the diagnosis of P. falciparum and P.vivax malaria was investigated compared to Giemsa microscopy and re-checked by PCR technique. A total of 283 tests were conducted in the provinces of Lai Chau, Quang Binh and Binh Phuoc, and 90 other ones were carried out with cultured P. falciparum at the laboratories of the National Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology. The different results were found with two method as 111 positive cases were confirmed by Giemsa staining (59 P.falciparum and 54 P.vivax), while only 94 positive tests (53 P.falciparum and P.vivax) were determined by Asan. The samples with different results by two methods were re-cheked by PCR technique for confimation. The sensitivity and specificity of Asan tests in Plasmodium species detection were 97.8 and 89.9%, respectively, in general, and 99.0% and 91.2% in diagnosis of P falciparum, and 75.9% and 97% of P. vivax, in particular. However, in the following-up period (2-3 days), both methods showed the same results of parasite re-examination

4.Study on the gastrointestinal manifestation in malaria
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 2003;0(11):26-29
486 case-record files of malaria patients admitted to Tropical Disease hospital, of mahidol University, Bangkok,Thai land from November 1st, 1999 to December 31st 1999. P.falciparum and P.vivax are most popular parasitic species. The personal history of malaria also affect to disease. The incidences of nausea, vomitting, abdominal pain and hepatomegaly in falciparum malaria were higher than those in vivax malaria patients in restrospective. It was noted that, Gl symptoms were th most common findings in severe and complicated malaria

5.Detection of mutations of multi-drug resistance 1 genes associated with chloroquine resistant P.falciparum in Binh Phuoc
Journal of Malaria and parasite diseases Control 2003;0(4):52-58
The changes of susceptibility to chloroquine associated with mutations at 76 point of transporter membrane gene (P.fcrt) and at 86 point of multi-drug resistant 1 gene (P.fmdr-1) of P.falciparum were investigated by nested PCR. Analysis of 113 P.falciparum blood samples collected from the malaria patients in the Farm No11 of Phu Rieng Rubber Company in Binh Phuoc province in October 2002. The results showed that: at76 point of P.fcrt gene, 58 samples (51%) were wild type, 24 samples (21%) were mutated type and 31 samples (28%) were mixture of wild and mutated type. At 86 point of P.fmdr-1 gene, 3 samples of mixed wild and mutated type (2.7%), 110 samples of wild type (97.3%) and non of mutated type samples

6.The persistence of malaria in Khanh Trung commune, Khanh Vinh district, Khanh Hoa province and epidemiological characteristics of asymptomatic malaria
Journal of Malaria and parasite diseases Control 2003;0(1):31-39
In December 2002, 445 households and 1832 individuals of Khanh Trung commune were interviewed and examined in a cross-sectional survey (approximately 85% inhabitants of the commune). The results showed that: The slide positive rate was 10.1%. The rate of asymptomatic malaria carriers was 77.2% of total malaria confirmed cases. There is a relation between people with sleeping in the forest and people without sleeping in its, OR=1.89, P=0.001. Ethnic group of Ra-glai infected with malaria (11.1%) and the age group which had highest rate of asymptomatic malaria was 5-9 years old 11.2%. Parasite density index of asymptomatic malaria group was lower than that of the fever malaria group

10.Some remarks on the malaria and anopheline mosquitoes in Quang Binh province based on the data of the surveys in the third quater, 2004
Journal of Malaria and parasite diseases Control 2003;0(6):18-26
All of 8 villages of Lam Thuy and Ngan Thuy communes are high malaria endemic areas. The slide positive rates (SPR) in Lam Thuy and Ngan Thuy are 11.56% and 36.20% respectively; P. falciparum positive rates are 72.50% and 67.80%; Parasite positive rates in children at 1-5 years old are 45.00% and 32.20%. Habit of sleeping without bed net of the local population and unfectioning microscopic points have made the malaria situation higher in these two communes. Anopheline component in Km 14 village, Ngan Thuy commune, Le Thuy district is abundant (19 species): with the presentation of the two main malaria vectors An.dirus and An.minimus. The landscape in this area is suitable for the production and development of two main malaria vectors as well as other anopheline mosquitoes
