Background: Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is a malignant (cancerous) growth of B or T white blood cells (lymphocytes) in the lymph system. Many lymphoma classifications were proposed. All were based by groups of the original cells, histopathological appearances and clinical features. Objectives: To apply new WHO 2001 classification of 165 cases of malignant non Hodgkin lymphoma were histopathologically and immunohisto chemically studied at K hospital in Hanoi. Subjects and method: The study included 165 patients with malignant non Hodgkin lymphoma were examined and treated at K hospital in Hanoi from 2000 to 2003. Results: The study based on new WHO 2001 classification of 165 cases of malignant non Hodgkin lymphoma showed results B lymphoma: Diffuse large B - cell lymphoma accounts for 63.3%, follicular lymphoma: 17.5%, small lymphocytic lymphoma: 12.5%, mantle cell lymphoma: 1.7% and the others are at low rate. T lymphoma: large T-cell lymphoma accounts for 35.0%, T lymphoblastic lymphoma: 30.0%, angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma: 12.5%, peripheral T- cell lymphoma, unspecified: 10.0%, the others are at low rate. 4.Rectal non-Hodgkin lymphoma with concomitant rectal adenocarcinoma: a case report and literature review.

OBJECTIVETo report a case of rectal non-Hodgkin lymphoma with concomitant rectal adenocarcinoma.
METHODSClinical records of a 71 years old male patient with rectal non-Hodgkin lymphoma with concomitant rectal adenocarcinoma admitted on May 19, 2010 to the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yet-sen University were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment as well as postoperative pathology were summarized.
RESULTSThe preoperative diagnosis of the patient was severe atypical adenomatous hyperplasia with focal carcinogenesis, and the preoperative staging was T2N0-1M0. The patient underwent a Parks procedure (rectal resection and colo-anal anastomosis) and subtotal resection of left lateral liver. The operation was successful, postoperative recovery uneventful. Postoperative pathology showed moderately differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma with deep muscular invasion, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma with marginal zone cell. Both the distal and proximal resection margins were negative and no vascular and neural invasion were seen. Immunohistochemical staining indicated L26(+), Bcl-2(+), Bcl-6(+), CD3(-), CD23(-), CK epithelial cells(+), and M-CEA luminal border(+). The pathological and immunohistochemistry results of liver specimens showed hepatic mucosa-associated marginal zone lymphoma.
CONCLUSIONSRectal adenocarcinoma and lymphoma occurring at the same site simultaneously is extremely rare with unique pathologic features.

6.Nucleolar organizer regions of lymphomas in Korea.

Nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) are loops of DNA which occur in the nucleoli of cells and which possess ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes. The numbers and/or configurations of NORs have been thought to be related to cellular activities. To assess the applicability of NORs associated protein (Ag-NORs) in the field of diagnostic histopathology, a silver staining was done in paraffin sections of malignant lymphomas, tonsils and reactive lymph nodes and the numbers of Ag-NORs in the nuclei of low-grade and those of high-grade lymphomas were compared. A significant difference was found between the numbers of Ag-NORs in the nuclei of low-grade lymphoma (a mean of 1.3 per nucleus) and those of high-grade lymphomas (a mean of 4.2 to 8.3 per nucleus). The Ag-NORs were often observed in nuclei in areas where nucleoli themselves were not visible in H and E stain. It is suggested that this method would be of great value in the field of tumor histopathology.

A case of primary non-Hodgkin's malignant lymphoma of the vulva which occurred in a 68-year-old woman is presented. Non-Hodgkin's malignant lymphoma is infrequently involved in the female genital tract. Moreover, primary vulvar involvement of this tumor is very rare. To date only 6 cases have been reported in the literature. To our knowledge this is the first reported case of a non-Hodgkin's malignant lymphoma of the vulva in Korea.
