2.Abdominal Organ Injuries with Chyloperitoneum after Blunt Tauma: A Case Report.

Chyloperitoneum or chylous ascite after trauma is a rare condition. It can develop after direct injuries of lymphatic vessels or cisterna chyli. Though isolated chyle duct injury has sometimes been reported, chyloperitoneum is generally accompanied by various kinds of damage to other intraabdominal organs. There's still no established therapeutic protocol regarding the treatment of chyloperitoneum when it is accompanied by the serious injuries of intraabdominal organs. We describe a 66-year-old male with serious intraabdominal organ injuries after blunt trauma. In our case, chyloperitoneum developed due to the injuries to the mesenteric lymph vessels and compression of cisterna chyli by hematoma around aorta.

3.A dynamic model describing lymphatic circulation.

Based on the morphology and function of lymphatic vessel, and on the achievements of researches in the regulatory mechanism of lymphatic circulation, we fully considered the dynamic interaction of blood, interstitial fluid and lymph fluid; then we imitated and used Sungawa's method of analyzing the heart output, and finally set up a dynamic model for describing lymphatic circulation. Comparison of our calculating results with the data from Ikomi's experiment showed that they were identical, thus indicating that our model is of value in explaining the dynamic mechanism of lymphatic circulation. In this paper is especially calculated the relationship between lymph flow and massage frequency, which is useful for analyzing the effect of massage on the lymph flow rate with respect to this model.

4.Expression of Panendothelial and Lymphatic Vessel Markers of a Pre-operative Biopsy Specimen from Colorectal Cancer.

PURPOSE: Panendothelial markers such as factor VIII, CD34, CD31, CD105 (endoglin) and D2-40 are useful to identify proliferating endothelium that is related to tumor invasion. This study was designed to identify the correlation between the expressions of panendothelial and lymphatic vessel markers in preoperative biopsy specimens and the clinicopathologic factors. METHODS: Preoperative biopsy specimens from 72 patients were immunostained for CD105, CD34, CD31, Factor VIII and D2-40. The microvessel and lympathic vessel densities (MVD and LVD) were counted in dense vascular foci (hot spots) on a x200 field in each specimen. The correlation between these factors and the clinicopathologic parameters were analyzed. RESULTS: The MVD by CD105 showed statistically significant correlation with tumor emboli, the T-stage, nodal metastasis and the stage, and the MVD by CD34 had statistically significant correlation with tumor emboli, nodal metastasis and the stage. The lympathic vessel density (LVD) by D2-40 showed a statistically significant correlation with tumor emboli, the T-stage and nodal metastasis. CONCLUSION: The MVD by CD105 and the LVD by D2-40 in preoperative biopsy specimens of colorectal cancers may be useful markers for the prediction of invasiveness.

5.Reactivity to substance P of isolated lymphatics in hemorrhagic shock rat.

OBJECTIVETo observe the change of lymphatic reactivity to substance P (SP) during the process of hemorrhagic shock (HS) with a technique of lymphatic perfusion in vitro in this study.
METHODSMale Wistar rats were randomly divided into control group (surgical procedure only) and HS group (the rats in this group were further divided into five subgroups: shock 0 h, 0.5 h, 1 h, 2 h and 3 h groups after duplicating the HS model with method of bloodletting to mean arterial blood pressure was 40 mmHg through the femoral venous). Thoracic ducts were separated from HS rats at the corresponding time points in each group. A segment of thoracic duct was pressed and perfused in vitro at transmural pressure of 3 cm H2O, and then stimulated with gradient SP respectively. The end systolic diameter, end diastolic diameter, contraction frequency (CF) and passive diameter of isolated lymphatics were measured, while the contraction amplitude (CA), tonic index (TI) and fractional pump flow (FPF) were calculated, and the different values between pre- and post- administration of SP of CF, CA, TI and FPF were calculated and expressed as Delta CF, Delta TI, Delta CA and Delta FPF to further assess the reactivity of lymphatics.
RESULTSAfter SP incubation, the Delta CF, Delta TI, Delta CA and Delta FPF of 0 h- and 0.5 h shocked lymphatics were significantly increased when compared with that of control group on one or several concentrations. The Delta CF (at 3 x 10(-7) mol/L of SP) and Delta TI (1 x 10(-7) mol/L) of 2 h- shocked lymphatics and the Delta CF (1 x 10(-7) mol/L, 3 x 10(-7) mol/L), Delta TI (1 x 10(-7) mol/L) and Delta CA (1 x 10(-7) mol/L) of 3 h- shocked lymphatics were all significantly reduced when compared with control group.
CONCLUSIONThe reactivity of lymphatics to SP presented a biphasic change during the process of HS: increase in early phase and decline in later stage.

6.A Case of Acquired Lymphangioma After Open heart Surgery.

Lymphangiectasis(=acquirecl lymphangioma) ate dilated lymph caillaris and may be due to the obstruction of the lymphatic circulation from surgery, irradiation, chronic recurrent infection or trauma. The patient was a 5 years old girl who developed a straw-colcre, asymptomatic grouped vesicular mass resembling frog spawn measuring 9 cm in diameter the left axilla and arm, 2 months after the total excision of a previous lymphangiectatic mass. She had a history of previous open heart surgery at 2 years of age. Histopathologic findings showed large, irregularly shaped cysticalation lined by a single layer of endothelium in the superficial dermis. Immunohistochemical stainig showed vimentin positive and negative results in Factor VIII and HLA-DR antigen which was compatible with a lymphatic vessel.

Lymphangiomas are benign tumors of lymphatic vessels, which can occur anywhere the lymphatics exist. The lymphangioma of the esophagus is exceedingly rare. Seven cases had reported in the world and there is no case report about the lymphangioma of the esophagus in our country. So we present one case of lymphangiomas that coexist in esophagus and sigmoid colon. This kind of case don't have been reported yet.

Lymphangioma is an uncommon, benign hamartomatous malformation that consists of dilated lymphatic channels lined by normal, single-cell lymphatic endothelia. The lymphangiomas are divided into cavernous lymphangioma, cystic hygroma, lymphangioma circumscriptum, and acquired progressive lymphangioma. Acquired lymphangioma circumscriptum usually occurs due to surgery, infection or radiotherapy, which leads to obstruction of lymphatic vessels. Clinically, the lesions appear as thick-walled, 2~5 mm translucent vesicles. Spontaneous drainage of straw-colored to milky-white fluids may occur. Herein, we report an acquired lymphangioma circumscriptum of the nipple areola without preceding causes.

9.Ultrastructural and Immunofluorescent Features of Lymphatic Disorders in Conjunctiva.

We have experienced one case of lymphangioma and one case of lymphangiectasia which was diagnosed with the histopathologic studies, including immunofluorescent and electron microscopic methods. The distribution of Ig G and Ig A within the stroma was shown, particularly in the inflammatory cells. The endothelial lined lymphatic vessel consisted of interrupted basal lamina and absence of pericyte on electron microscope.

10.Lymphangiomatosis of Bone and Soft Tissue: A Case Report

A case of Lymphangiomatosis of the skeleton and soft tissue in a 23 years old woman is presented. Lymphangiomatosis are benign tumors formed of lymphatic vessel and like hemangiomatosis are probably best thought of as harmatomatous malformation. As term imply, the endothelial space in these lesions are lymph-rather than blood containing. Bone involvement are very rare condition that affect mainly the ilium and features a largely lytic pattern, consisting of tiny elliptical radiolucents slots. Treatment and Prognosis depend on the site and extent of involvement and progression. Although irradiation may be the treatment of choice, the lesions have not been usually successfully treated.
