3.Surface Modification Technologies of Quantum Dots Based Biosensors and Their Medical Applications
Chinese Journal of Analytical Chemistry 2014;(7):1061-1069
Quantum dots( QDs) as a new type of nanostructured luminescent materials have been widely used in biology, materials science, and physical optics. QD-based biosensors can rapidly and accurately detect biological macromolecules or inorganic molecules both in vivo and in vitro. The surface of QDs, prior to their biological detection applications, needed to be modified to enhance their fluorescence properties and lower their biological toxicity. Currently, the surface modification technologies mainly include polymer modification, thiol compounds modification, mercapto propionic acid compounds modification and organic groups modification. Various biosensors can be developed by adopting different modification techniques, which have been adopted to locate and track a variety of biological molecules in vivo. Although a large number of literatures have reported the biological applications of QD-based biosensors, rare systematic reviews of surface modification technologies on QDs have been witnessed. In this paper, we reviewed the surface modification technologies of QDs in biosensors and their medical applications.

6.Quality and validity of randomized controlled trials in China from the perspective of systematic reviews.
Journal of Integrative Medicine 2011;9(7):697-701
A systematic review is based on randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and the reliability of its conclusion is closely related to the quality of original literature. The low quality of existing RCTs in China leads to the failure of conclusive findings in systematic reviews when evaluating the effectiveness of interventions. It is almost universal for systematic reviews to draw the conclusion that "further well-designed multicenter and large-scale RCTs are still required to confirm the beneficial effects of interventions". This paper analyzed the current status of RCTs in China, discussed the influence of including trials of low quality in a systematic review and assessed how a systematic review should be carried out under such circumstances. Furthermore, the methods to evaluate the quality of RCTs were introduced and evaluated. Finally, several strategies were proposed to improve the quality of RCTs in China: foster an honest academic and social environment, enhance the training of doctors on clinical research methodology, promote the implementation of clinical registration systems and strengthen the quality control of clinical research and the medical journals regulations on the quality of submitted papers.
7.The roles of hypoxia inducible factor-1 in apoptosis after cerebral ischemia
International Journal of Cerebrovascular Diseases 2012;20(4):315-320
Hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) is an inportant regulatory factor in adapting to hypoxia in the hypoxic environment for cells. The changes of the numbers of HIF-1 in cells may regulate hypoxia-responsive gene transcription.HIF-1 may inhibit neuronal apoptosis and thus play a ncuroptotective role, and may also show a neurotoxic effect by inducing neuronal apoptosis.
8.Research status on the effect of surface treatment of titanium & titanium alloy on bonding strength
International Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2009;32(4):244-246
Titanium & titanium alloy are popular in dentistry as dental material because of their good mechanical properties and extremely good biocompatibility. The bonding strength between the titanium and the resin agent is the decisive factor in evaluating the success of resin-bonded restoration. Appropriate surface treatment on the titanium is an effective way to reinforce the bending strength. The purpose of this review is to summarise the relevant studies and introduce some latest findings.
9.A case report of surgical resection of giant pharyngeal pleomorphic adenoma and literature review.
Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2014;28(24):1997-1998
Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is a rare benign tumor in the pharynx. We presented a case with a huge PA in the pharynx. MRI displayed oropharyngeal mass, considering benign tumor. Preoperative fine-needle aspiration and cytology biopsy were important to confirm the diagnosis of PA preliminary. Extracapsular complete dissection for PA was performed under general anesthesia with tracheotomy subsequently. Postoperative histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of PA. The patient was discharged a week after operation and no recurrence was found in the following 8 months.
