ObjectiveTo observe the effect of resveratrol on the oxidative stress and antioxidant levels of different mitochondrial subpopulations in the skeletal muscle and insulin sensitivity of rats fed with high-fat diet.MethodsMale SD rats,aged 8 weeks,were divided into normal chow (NC) group,high-fat diet(HF) group,high-fat diet plus resveratrol ( HFR ) group.After intervention for 8 weeks,the impacts of resveratrol on oxidative stress levels and antioxidant enzymes activities in subsarcolemmal ( SS ) and intermyofibrillar ( IMF ) mitochondria from skeletal muscle as well as general and skeletal mascle insulin sensitivity were assessed.ResultsCompared with NC group, insulin sensitivity was significantly reduced while reactiveoxygenspecies (ROS)and malondialdehyde(MDA) levels in SS and IMF mitochondria increased in HF group ( all P<0.01 ).In addition,antioxidant enzyme activities were significantly decreased in SS mitochondrial and increased in IMF mitochondrial ( both P < 0.05 ).Compared with HF group,the insulin sensitivity in HFR group was significantly improved.Moreover,the activities of antioxidant enzymes in SS and IMF mitochondrial were increased,and the oxidative stress levels returned to normal ( P < 0.05 ).ConclusionResveratrol notably improves the oxidative stress of different skeletal muscle mitochondrial subpopulations and insulin resistance in rats fed with high-fat diet.
3.Comparison of risk models in predicting intracranial hemorrhage and poor outcomes in acute anterior circulation ischemic stroke after mechanical thrombectomy

Objective To compare the efficacies of 4 risk models (THRIVE[Totaled Health Risks in Vascular Events],MSS[Multicenter Stroke Survey],HIAT[Houston Intra-Arterial Therapy],and GRASPS[Glucose at presentation,Race,Age,Sex,Systolic blood pressure,Severity of stroke at presentation]) in predicting intracranial hemorrhage and poor outcomes in acute anterior circulation ischemic stroke after mechanical thrombectomy.Methods From May 2013 to March 2016,153 consecutive patients with acute anterior circulation vascular occlusion conducted mechanical thrombectomy within 6 hours after onset and admitted to the Departments of Neurology,Jinling Hospital,Nanjing University School of Medicine and Zhongshan Hospital,Xiamen University were enrolled prospectively.Logistic regression analysis and the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) were used to investigate the efficacies of 4 risk models (the THRIVE,MSS,HIAT,and GRASPS scores) for predicting intracerebral hemorrhage (including any intracranial hemorrhage events and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage) and poor outcomes (including 90 d all-cause death and modified Rankin Scale[mRS] score≥3) in acute anterior circulation ischemic stroke after mechanical thrombectomy.Results The MSS score (AUC 0.639,95%CI 0.548-0.730,P=0.004) and GRASPS score (AUC 0.616,95%CI 0.525-0.706,P=0.017) could predict any intracranial hemorrhage events,but the predictive accuracy was low.They had the predictive value for death within 90 d after mechanical thrombectomy,and the GRASPS score (AUC 0.783,95%CI 0.706-0.860,P<0.001) had the moderate predictive accuracy,and the AUC of the other 3 models was all<0.7,the predictive accuracy was low.The models could predict the poor prognosis at 90 d (90 d mRS≥3).The AUCs of both the GRASPS score and THRIVE score were >0.7.The AUC of GRASPS score was the largest (AUC 0.782,95%CI 0.708-0.885,P<0.01).Both had moderate predictive accuracy.Conclusion The GRASPS score had a better clinical predictive value for all-cause death and poor prognosis within 90 d after mechanical thrombectomy.The THRIVE score had a better clinical predictive value for poor prognosis at 90 d.The 4 models predictive value for intracranial hemorrhage events after mechanical thrombectomy should be further examined.
4."Outcomes in patients with ""successful"" recanalization in anterior circulation stroke treated with mechanical thrombectomy: TICI 3 versus TICI 2b"

ObjectiveTo investigate the difference in the outcomes in patients with acute anterior circulation stroke having achieved the Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction (TICI) 2b and TICI 3 recanalization after mechanical thrombectomy.MethodsThe patients with acute anterior circulation stroke having achieved successful recanalization after mechanical thrombectomy were enrolled retrospectively.They were divided into TICI 2b (almost complete recanalization) group and TICI 3 (complete recanalization) group.The good outcome was defined as the modified Rankin Scale score 0-2 at 3 months after onset.ResultsA total of 83 patients were enrolled in the study, including 38 patients (45.8%) with TICI 2b and 45 (54.2%) with TICI 3;49 (59.0%) had good outcome, and 34 (40.9%) had poor outcome.The good outcome rate in the TICI 3 group was significantly higher than that in the TICI 2b group (68.9% vs.47.4%;χ2=3.946, P=0.047).After adjusting for age, hypertension, diabetes, baseline systolic blood pressure, triglyceride, intravenous thrombolysis, and ASITN/SIR collateral grades, TICI 3 was an independent predictor for good outcome at 3 months after onset (odds ratio [OR] 3.759, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.098-12.871;P=0.035), while the higher baseline National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score (OR 0.820, 95% CI 0.715-0.941;P=0.005) and higher fasting glucose (OR 0.610, 95% CI 0.410-0.906;P=0.014) were the independent predictors for poor outcome at 3 months after onset.ConclusionsThere are difference in the outcomes in patients with successful recanalization in anterior circulation stroke treated with mechanical thrombectomy.The outcome is substantially better in TICI 3 than TICI 2b patients.
5.Enlarged perivascular space and its clinical significance in patients with cerebral small vessel disease

Objective To investigate the enlarged perivascular space (EPVS) and its clinical significance in patients with cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD).Methods One hundred seventy-four patients with CSVD and 86 patients without CSVD admitted to Jinling Hospital,Clinical School of Nanjing University School of Medicine from October 2011 to February 2012 were recruited.All patients underwent cranial MRI examination (including diffusion-weighted imaging and fluid attenuated inversion recovery sequences).The numbers of EPVS and anatomic distribution in all the subjects of both groups were analyzed.The receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve was used to investigate its diagnostic critical value of anatomic distribution.Results Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that EPVS in basal ganglia region (odds ratio [OR] 1.491,95% confidence interval [CI] 1.165-1.909; P =0.002) and EPVS in centrum semiovale (OR 1.279,95% CI 1.022-1.601;P=0.032) were independently associated with CSVD.EPVS in the basal ganglia region and the centrum semiovale in patients with CSVD was significantly more than that in patients with non-CSVD (all P <0.001).Its corresponding diagnosis cut-off points of CSVD were 4 and 6 respectively.The area under the ROC curve and the diagnostic sensitivity and specificity were 0.859,72.4%,93.0% and 0.808,65.5%,95.3%,respectively.Conclusions EPVS contributes to the diagnosis of CSVD.When using EPVS to diagnose CSVD,the anatomical sites need to be distinguished and establish appropriate diagnostic critical value.
6.The effects of hypertension on the risk of recurrence among TOAST subtype of ischemic stroke

Objective The relationship between hypertension ( HTN) and ischemic stroke recurrence is unclear , but there may be different effects of HTN on the risk of recurrence .This study aims to explore whether HTN contributes differently to the recur-rence among subtypes of ischemic stroke ( IS) . Methods We eventually enrolled 1114 patients with ischemic stroke from Jul 2008 to Dec 2012 registered in Nanjing Stroke Registry Program (NSRP) in this study.All the patients were classified according to Trial of Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment (TOAST) criteria: 315 (28.3%) patiwnts were classified as Large-artery atheroselerosis (LAA), 212 (19.0%) as cardioembolism (CE), 266 (23.9%) as small-artery occlusion (SAO), and 321 (28.8%) as other de-termined and undetermined etiologies ( Other) .The association between HTN and stroke recurrence in patients with different IS sub-types was analyzed using multivariate Cox regression analysis . Results The average follow-up duration was (19.4 ±10.3) months. Of 1114 patients with IS, 158 (14.2%) patients experienced a recurrent stroke .Patients with HTN had a significantly higher stroke recurrence rate than those without (16.5%vs 10.5%, P<0.05).Multivariate Cox regression analysis indicated that HTN increased the risk of ischemic stroke recurrence (HR=1.722, 95%CI:1.181-2.512, P=0.005).After stratification by TOAST subtypes, analysis revealed an association between HTN and stroke recurrence in LAA( HR=3 .767, 95%CI:1.866-7.585, P=0.001) and SAO (HR=3.530, 95%CI:1.156-12.740, P=0.028), but not in the other subtypes (CE: HR=0.773, 95%CI:0.370-1.615, P=0.493;Other:HR=1.498, 95%CI:0.590-3.807, P=0.395). Conclusion HTN is an independent risk factor for recurrent ischemic stroke and is related to the recurrent ischemic stroke in patients with large-artery and small-vessel disease .
7.Road traffic injuries among middle school students commuting to school in Shaoxing City

Objective:
To investigate the situation of road traffic injuries (RTIs) among middle school students in Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, so as to provide the basis for implementation of interventions against RTIs among students.
Methods:
From 2021 to 2023, a multi-stage stratified cluster sampling method was used to select 82 junior high school classes and 89 senior high school classes in Shaoxing City as the survey population. Data on basic information, commuting travel, road safety behaviors and road safety knowledge awareness were collected through questionnaires, and the prevalence of RTIs in the past year was analyzed.
Results:
A total of 6 287 middle school students were surveyed, and 971 cases of RTIs were reported, with a reporting rate of 15.44%. The reporting rate of RTIs was higher in males than in females (17.68% vs. 13.34%, P<0.05). The reporting rate of RTIs was higher in high school students than in junior high school students (17.70% vs. 12.66%, P<0.05). The students who mainly walked to school (18.00%), walked 5 days a week (17.82%) and traveled with classmates (17.58%) had higher reporting rates of RTIs. Among those who walked for ≥20 minutes, the reporting rate of RTIs was higher in males than in females (P<0.05). Among different road safety behaviors, the reporting rate of RTIs was higher in males than in females who used electronic devices (P<0.05). The reporting rates of RTIs were relatively high among students who played for ≥10 minutes on the way (32.92%), crossed traffic lights directly when being late for school (41.54%) and crossed traffic barriers directly (30.67%). The reporting rate of RTIs among middle school students decreased with the increase of road safety knowledge scores (P<0.05).
Conclusions
Male students, high school students, students with road risky behaviors and with low awareness of road safety knowledge have higher reporting rates of RTIs. It is necessary to strengthen road safety knowledge education for students.
8.Effects of adult catch-up growth on insulin sensitivity and stress in rats

ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of adult catch-up growth on insulin sensitivity and stress in rats, as well as the probable mechanism of insulin resistance. MethodsMale Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 6 groups:caloric restriction group ( R4, caloric restriction for 4 weeks) and normal controls for 4 weeks ( NC4 ) ; catchup growth group refed with normal chow( RN4, refeeding for 4 weeks after caloric restriction for 4 weeks), catch-up growth group refed with high-fat diet( RH4, refeeding for 4 weeks after caloric restriction for 4 weeks ), normal chow (NC8) or high-fat diet( HF8 ) controls for 8 weeks. The animal model of catch-up growth was devoloped by way of refeeding after caloric restriction as scheduled. The glucose infusion rate( GIR ), 2-deoxyglucose uptake and insulinsitmulated insulin signaling in skeletal muscle during hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp, plasma corticosterone, and 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 ( 11β-HSD1 ) mRNA expression level in skeletal muscle were determined.ResultsAfter caloric restriction for 4 weeks, plasma corticosterone and 1 1 β-HSD1 mRNA expression in skeletal muscle were significantly higher in R4 group compared with NC4 group( both P<0. 05 ), but there were no differences in 2-deoxyglucose uptake and Ser473 phosphorylation of Akt in skeletal muscle between two groups. The plasma corticosterone and 11β-HSD1 mRNA expression in skeletal muscle in RN4 group were significantly higher than those in NC8 group, and were higher in RH4 group than those in NC8 and HF8 groups; while the 2-deoxyglucose uptake and insulin-stimulated Ser473 phosphorylation of Akt in skeletal muscle during the clamp in RN4 were remarkably lower than those in NC8 group, and were lower in RH4 than those in NC8, HF8, and RN4 groups (all P < 0. 05 ).ConctusionsCatch-up growth rats refed with normal chow or high-fat diet are characterized by significant insulin resistance and stress in the whole body and skeletal muscle. These changes are more evident in catch-up growth rats refed with high-fat diet. The interaction of increased stress and diet might be of utmost importance in the etiology of insulin resistance in catch-up growth animals.

10.A Sampling Survey on the Distribution of Oncomelania Snails in Zhejiang Province

Objective To find out current distribution of Oncomelania snails and Schistosoma infection in snails in Zhejiang Province, so as to improve the project of schistosomiasis control. Methods Investigation spots were selected by stratified cluster sampling method, 100 villages of 34 counties were selected from 7 106 villages of 55 counties as survey spots. Synchronously systematic and environmental samplings were used for the survey. Snails were dissected to determine the infection status and spots with sham snails were set to assess the quality of the survey. Results The result showed that snails were found in 223 strips, 1 572 frames and 73 300 m 2 area in 32 villages of 21 counties. Snails were found in an area covering 72 640 m 2 in 29 villages of 18 counties in hilly region, which accounted for 99.1% of total snail habitats.
