Objective To investigate effects of combined use of glycogen synthase kinase (GSK) -3 inhibitor and fructose-1,6-diphosphate (FDP) on liver trauma in rats. Methods After crea-tion of liver trauma model in 49 Sprague-Dawley rats, 42 rats were randomly divided into control group (NaCl group), FDP group and FGI Group (FDP and GSK-3 inhibitor in combination group). Then, each group was randomly subdivided into pre-ischemia group and 4-hour reperfusion group on account of time point when animals were sacrificed before and after iachemia. The other seven rats set as sham operation group (SH group) were sacrificed at 4-hour reperfusion time point. The AST and ALT levels in hlood and glycogen content, SOD vitality and MDA content in liver tissues were determined. Results At pre-is-chemia time point, liver glycogen content in three groups was in order of control group < FDP group < FGI group (P <0.01). At 4-hour reperfusion time point, blood ALT and AST levels in four groups were in order of control group > FDP group > FGI group > SH group (P < 0.01), while SOD vitality in liver tissues of four groups was in order of control group < FDP group < FGI group < SH group (P < 0.01) and MDA content in four groups was in order of control group > FDP group > FGI group > SH group (P < 0.01). Conclusions Combined use of FDP and GSK-3 inhibitor can enhance the protective effect of FDP on liver rupture, as may relate to the mechanism that GSK-3 inhibitor can effectively enhance glycogen synthesis of FDP as substrate before liver ischemia so that the liver glycogen storage is increased in a short period of time and hence post-traumatic warm ischemia-reperfusion injury is alleviated in the liver of rats.

Objective To asses the effects of Gamma nail and DHS/Richard (dynamic hip screw) in the treatment of proximal femoral fractures. Methods A meta analysis of all the relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was performed. We included randomized and quasi randomized controlled trials in patients with proximal femoral fracture to compare Gamma nail and DHS/Richard. Results First we identified 88 papers on comparison of Gamma nail and DHS/Richard in the treatment of proximal femoral fractures published from 1969 to 2003. 7 trials involving 1256 patients were identified as meeting all the eligibility criteria. 3 investigators independently graded study quality and abstracted relevant data, including information on mortality rates, wound infection, function, revision in patients with a proximal femoral fracture. 4 trials, which included a total of 621 patients, provided detailed information on mortality rates over the first 6 postoperative months. We found there was no significant difference in the relative risk of death in the first 6 months postoperative between treatments of Gamma nail and those of compression hip screw (relative risk 1.17;P=0.51). 6 trials that included a total of 1083 patients provided data on operative complications. The risk of operative complications from Gamma nail fixation appeared to be higher than that from compression screw and side plate fixation but not higher than that from compression hip screw (relative risk 1.41; P=0.02). We also found an obvious increase in the relative risk of fracture of femoral shaft between Gamma nail and compression hip screw (relative risk 6.99; P=0.00). Patients treated with Gamma nail had a higher rate of revision compared with those with compression hip screw, but there was no significant difference between the two groups (relative risk 1.85; P=0.20). In addition, wound infection, operative blood loss and functional recovery were similar between the tow groups(relative risk 0.98 for wound infection and 1.02 for function). Based on the transcriptome data, we cloned the open reading frame of IiHCT gene from Isatis indigotica, and then performed bioinformatic analysis of the sequence. Further, we detected expression pattern in specific organs and hairy roots treated methyl jasmonate( MeJA) by RT-PCR. The IiHCT gene contains a 1 290 bp open reading frame( ORF) encoding a polypeptide of 430 amino acids. The predicted isoelectric point( pI) was 5.7, a calculated molecular weight was about 47.68 kDa. IiHCT was mainly expressed in stem and undetectable in young root, leaf and flower bud. After the treatment of MeJA, the relative expression level of IiHCT increased rapidly. The expression level of IiHCT was the highest at 4 h and maintained two fold to control during 24 h. In this study, cloning of IiHCT laid the foundation for illustrating the biosynthesis mechanism of phenylpropanoids in I. indigotica.

OBJECTIVE: To discuss whether a reduced dose of CsA was allowed yet without increase risk of rejection, and whether the incidence of CsA-related side effects be reduced while the curative effects be enhanced by combined use of Cyclosporine (CsA), prednisone and Mycophenolate Mofetil (MMF) in patients after renal transplantation. METHODS: In this comparative study, 213 renal allograft recipients receiving routine dose of CsA were compared with 176 cases receiving low dose CsA. RESULTS: The two groups showed no significant differences in renal function, incidence of rejection and human/kidney survival rate. However, the low dose CsA group showed a better total curative efficacy and significantly fewer incidences of ADRs. CONCLUSION: CsA, MMF and Pred used concomitantly in patients after renal transplantation allows for a reduced dose of CsA yet without increase the risk of acute rejection if with enough dose of MMF.

Objective To explore the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs).Methods Clinical and pathological data of the 32 GISTs cases treated over the recent 5 years in our hospital were reviewed retrospectively.Results Stomach was the most frequent site for GISTs.Abdominal pain was the most common symptom.Before operation,81.3%(26/32) of the cases were misdiagnosed.All of the cases underwent surgical resection.10 recurrent GIST patients received a second resection,and 8 patients(underwant) three or more resections.Follow-up was made from six months to 5 years,and 8 patients died.Conclusions The diagnosis of GISTs is difficult and mainly depends on histopathology and(immunohistochemistry).Surgical resection is the principal treatment of GISTs.Reoperation is effective for the treatment of recurrent cases.

OBJECTIVETo compare the difference in the clinical efficacy on posterior circulation ischemia between acupuncture at stellate ganglion and conventional acupuncture as well as the impacts on blood pressure.

METHODSEighty cases of posterior circulation ischemia were randomized into an observation group (40 cases) and a control group (40 cases). In the observation group, acupuncture was applied to the bilateral stellate ganglions on the neck, stimulated with reinforcing technique by rotating the needles. In the control group, the acupuncture of reducing technique was applied to Fengchi (GB 20), Baihui (GV 20), Neiguan (PC 6) and Taichong (LR 3) in the excess syndrome. The even needling or reinforcing technique was applied to Fengchi (GB 20), Baihui (GV 20), Ganshu (BL 18), Shenshu (BL 23) and Zusanli (ST 36) for the deficiency syndrome. The treatment was given once every 3 days and 4 treatments were required totally in the two groups. The changes in total syndrome score, peak Systolic blood flow velocity (Vp) of vertebral artery and basilar artery, systolic and diastolic blood pressures were compared before and after treatment in the two groups. The clinical efficacy was compared between the two groups.

RESULTSThe total syndrome score was reduced apparently after treatment compared with that before treatment in the two groups (P < 0.01), and the reducing was more obvious in the observation group as compared with that in the control group (P < 0.01). The total effective rate was 87.5% (35/40) in the observation group, higher than 67.5% (27/40, P < 0.05) in the control group. After treatment, the reduced Vp of vertebral artery was not improved apparently as compared with that before treatment in the control group, Vp in blood velocity abnormality (including vascular spasm, stenosis or reduced velocity) of vertebral artery and basilar artery was all improved as compared with that before treatment in the two groups (P < 0.01), and the improvements in the observation group were more obvious than those in the control group (P < 0.01). After treatment, the systolic and diastolic pressures were reduced as compared with those before treatment in the two groups, and the reduced systolic and diastolic pressures in the observation group were more apparent than those in the control group (P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONAcupuncture at stellate ganglion achieves the satisfactory efficacy in the treatment of posterior circulation ischemia and the significant efficacy of reducing blood pressure, more advanced than the conventional acupuncture.

[Ab]stract] Objective To investigate, according to core myodynamic theory, the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture at Huatuo jiaji points in treating motor dysfunction in stroke patients during the flaccid paralysis stage.Methods Sixty stroke patients in the stage of flaccid paralysis were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups, 30 cases each. The control group received basic treatment and conventional acupuncture and the treatment group, electroacupuncture at Huatuo jiaji points in addition. The simplified Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA) score and the Modified Barthel Index (MBI) score were counted before and after treatment and the clinical therapeutic effects were compared between the two groups.Results There were statistically significant pre-/post-treatment differences in the FMA score and the MBI score in the two groups (P<0.05). There were statistically significant post-treatment differences in the FMA score and the MBI score between the treatment and control groups (P<0.05). The total efficacy rate was 96.7% in the treatment group and 86.7% in the control group; there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05).Conclusion Electroacupuncture at Huatuo jiaji points has a promoting effect on the rehabilitation of limb function in the flaccid paralysis stage of stroke.

Objective To investigate the effects of four interior-warming drugs( galangal,cinnamon,evodia rutaecarpa,and dried ginger)on the tension of ileum smooth muscle and Ca2+-ATPase on the cell membrane in rabbits. Methods The effects of galangal,cinnamon,evodia rutaecarpa,and dried ginger were examined on normal ileum smooth muscle,in vitro intestinal muscle contraction caused by acetylcholine(ACh),barium chloride(BaCl2 )and histamine(His), and ACh-induced calcium release by using BL-420E+ biological signal collection and processing system.The average tension was measured within 1 min before delivery and within 3 minutes after the treatment,and the inhibition rate was calculated according to the average tension value.The effects of sera containing galangal,cinnamon,evodia rutaecarpa,and dried ginger on Ca2+-ATPase activity on the cell membrane of the intestinal smooth muscle were examined by phosphorus method. Results Galangal,cinnamon,evodia rutaecarpa,and dried ginger at high concentrations could restrain in vitro intestinal contraction in normal circumstances(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Significant inhibitory effects on intestinal contraction caused by ACh,His and BaCl2 were found in low,medium and high concentration groups(P<0.01).There was a dose-effectiveness relationship between the inhibition rate and final drug concentrations.The ACh-induced intracellular and extracellular calcium dependent contraction were significantly inhibited by the four interior-warming drugs( P < 0. 05 or P < 0. 01). The Ca2+-ATPase activities were( 0. 384 ± 0.070),(0.302±0.016),(0.307±0.016),(0.296±0.016),(0.313±0.003)U·mg-1 ,respectively,in intestinal smooth muscle in normal control group and high concentration groups of galangal,cinnamon,evodia rutaecarpa,and dried ginger(P<0.01). Conclusion Interior-warming drugs may relax intestinal smooth muscle by reducing the intracellular calcium release and the extracellular calcium inflow via receptor-controlled calcium channels,and inhibiting the Ca2+-ATPase activity in smooth muscle.

Objective To compare the difference of the clinical efficacy on post-stroke shoulder-hand syndrome treated by acupuncture at stellate ganglion and by conventional acupuncture. Methods Ninety cases of post-stroke shoulder-hand syndrome ( at stageⅠ or stageⅡ) were randomized into treatment group and control group, 45 cases in each group. Both groups received basic rehabilitation training. Additionally, the treatment group received acupuncture at the bilateral stellate ganglions of the neck, with reducing acupuncture by rotating the needles. The control group received the conventional acupuncture on Jiquan ( HT 1) , Chize ( LU 5) , Jianyu (LI 15), Quchi (LI 11), Shousanli (LI 10), Hegu (LI 4), with reducing acupuncture by lifting and thrusting the needle on Jiquan ( HT 1) and Chize ( LU 5) , and with mild reinforcing and reducong acupuncture on the other acupoints. The treatment for both groups was given once every day, and 14 times in total. The total syndrome scores, visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, modified Fugl-Meyer Assessment of motor function scale (FMA) scores, and modified Barthel index (MBI) were observed to evaluate the changes of symptoms, pain and motor function of the upper limbs, and activity of daily life before and after treatment in the two groups. The clinical efficacy was also compared between the two groups. Results The total syndrome scores, VAS scores, FMA scores and the modified Barthel index were improved apparently after treatment in the two groups (all P<0.01), and the improvement in the treatment group as more obvious (all P<0.01) . The total effective rate was 93.33% (42/45) in the treatment group, which was better than 73.33% (33/45) in the control group ( P<0.05) . During the treatment, patients of both groups had good compliance, and all completed the trial. No obvious adverse reaction was found in the two groups. Conclusion Acupuncture at stellate ganglion is effective and safe for the treatment of post-stroke shoulder-hand syndrome, and it has higher efficiency than the conventional acupuncture.
