ObjectiveTo investigate the causes, operation time, and microscopic repairing procedures of contusive iridodialysis. Methods23cases(23 eyes) who had partial iridodialysis due to contusions of the eyeballs underwent the microscopic repair during 7 to 18 days after injury. Viscoelastic agent and other auxiliary devices were used in the operation. ResultsAll eyes were fully corrected with approximate round-shaped pupils and their visual function improved. 1 eye with raised intraocular pressure was performed with trabeculectomy. ConclusionTimely repair of partial iridodialysis performed under microscope was safe and effective.

Objective To evaluate exertional overheating and endurance during and after physical exercise on individuals with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia(HED) ,to assess protective effects of skin cooling device ,and to provide theoretical basis for ex-ternal cooling devices .Methods 12 HED patients and 12 age-matched healthy controls were studied during standardized exercise on a treadmill at ambient temperatures of 25 ℃ and 30 ℃ .Body core temperature ,performance ,heart rate ,respiratory rate ,blood pres-sure and serum lactate were investigated during and after exercise .Results HED subjects experienced a significantly greater rise in body temperature after cycling than healthy controls ,and their body temperature remained elevated longer(P<0 .05) .HED subjects had a lower endurance time(F=9 .985 ,P=0 .005) and increasing speed value(F=7 .158 ,P=0 .014) .However ,serum lactate value of the HED subjects found to be higher than the controls (F=5 .204 ,P=0 .033) .Maximum heart rates ,respiratory rate and blood pressure did not differ significantly between HED and the control groups .However ,compared with controls ,body temperature and endurance time of HED patients equipped with skin cooling device had no statistical significance .Conclusion HED subjects showed a significantly greater rise of body temperature during exercise than the control groups ,and their body temperature remained elevat-ed longer than in healthy subjects ,and had a lower performance .External evaporative skin cooling attenuates exertional overheating in HED patients and may facilitate their participation in athletic activities and professional life .

Objective To investigate the effect of ectodysplasin A (EDA‐A1) gene of hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia on pro‐liferation and cell cycle of human umbilical vein endothelial cell (ECV304). Methods Recombinant eukaryotic expression vectors pcDNA3. 1(‐)‐EDA‐A1‐M /W (mutant, M and wild, W) containing the coding sequence were transected into ECV304 cells. EDA‐A1 gene was amplified by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT‐PCR), and the protein was detected by Western blot. Cell viability and cycle distribution were invested by MTT and Flow cytometry (FCM ). Results The EDA‐A1 gene and pro‐tein were detected respectively by RT‐PCR and Western blot in ECV cells transfected with pcDNA3. 1(‐)‐EDA‐A1‐M /W, but not in ECV cells transfected with plasmid pcDNA3. 1(‐) and cells without transection. And also, compared with control groups, EDA‐A1 gene mutant significantly decreased proliferation of ECV cells and its inhibition rate was 45. 70% ( P < 0. 01), whereas wild EDA‐A1 gene did not cause such growth inhibition (P> 0. 05). A significant increase of the G0 /G1 and S fraction was seen in the ECV cells of mutant group, compared with wild group with an accumulation in S phase and a concomitant decrease in G2 /M phase population (P< 0. 05). Conclusion Mutant and wild EDA‐A1 gene may have distinct biological functions on proliferation and cell cycle distribution of cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cell.

Objective To discuss the clinical values of virtual endoscopy (VE) using multislice computed tomography (MSCT) in diagnosis of the aorta and iliac artery diseases.Methods MSCT angiography in 36 cases suspected of the aorta and iliac artery diseases and 40 cases underwent abdominal examination were performed, then all CT virtual endoscopy (CTVE) were obtained at the vessel with suspected lesions on work-station, and the relations between the quality of images and scanning parameters were observed.Results All internal and dual-cavity were seen in 10 cases of aortic dissection; enlarged cavity of aneurysm were showed in 16 aortic aneurysms. Calcification plaques were displayed in 48 cases. One endograft and one postoperative aorta were seen the morphology and the location of stenosis. One case of iliac artery obstruction was displayed obstructive cavity on the image of CT virtual endoscopy.Conclusion The quality of CT virtual endoscopy is related to the scanning technique,scanning parameters, motion aritiact. CT vitrtual endoscopy is the important complementary to maximum intensity projection, multiplannar reformation, surface shadow display, and axial images, and has high value in the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of the aortic diseases

Objective: To analyze the effects of treatment of squamous cell carcinoma of tongue with N 0. Methods: 145 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of tongue with N 0 were retrospectively reviewed.22 cases underwent resection of primary tumor without elective neck dissection (END) (control group).123 cases underwent resection of primary tumor with END (END group).Follow-up was carried out for more than 3 years or till the death of patients.Results:Lymph node metastases was indentified in 33 patients in END group after operation and in 4 in control gruop during follow-up.The total occult lymph node metastases was found in 25.52% of the patients.4 (18.18%) died from neck or lung metastasis in control group and 7 (5.69%) in END group (P

Objective To assess the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of balloon disruption of thrombus by using a deflated balloon catheter combined with intraarterial thrombolysis for the treatment of acute middle cerebral artery(MCA) occlusion. Methods Five consecutive patients with acute MCA occlusion underwent balloon disruption combined with intra-arterial thrombolysis. The microballoon was inflated in the distal carotid artery and then deflated and advanced just distal to the occlusion site in the MCA. Thereafter, intra-arterial thrombolysis of the MCA was applied and the maximum dosage of urokinase was 500,000 U. Results Complete recanalization was achieved in 3 patients and partial recanalization in 2. All patients got favourable clinical outcome. There was no major intracerebral hemorrhage. Conclusion The penetration of the MCA with a deflated balloon catheter combined with an intra-arterial thrombolysis may be a safe and effective treatment for acute ischemic stroke.

BACKGROUND: An important initial step in developing a tissue engineering artificial salivary gland organoid is to find an ideal scaffold. To find other new biomaterials should to be further studied.OBJECTIVE: To obtain an acellular matrix from tracheae of rabbits and SD rats, and to investigate its biocompatibility as a primary step toward developing a tissue engineering artificial salivary gland organoid.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A randomized controlled animal study, which was performed at the Key Laboratory of Transplantation Engineering and Immunology of Ministry of Health, West China Hospital of Sichuan University from February 2003 to May 2005.MATERIALS: A modified detergent and enzyme link extraction procedure was performed to remove cells from SD rats and rabbits tracheae. The histology, topography of inner-surface and biocompatibility were studied on both acellular tracheae.METHODS: Eighteen SD rats were randomly divided into 2 groups. One group was planted acellular trachea of SD rats. Other group consisted of acellular trachea of rabbits. On the third generations, submandibular gland cells were inoculated on two acellular tracheae and cultured on PGA membrane; while, cells in the control group were inoculated on 12-well culture plate, and cell/scaffold complex was cultured at the same time.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The structure and topography of inner-surface of the acellular tracheae matrixes were observed both by light and scanning electron microscopy. The inflammatory response of the tissue around acellular tracheae implanted under the skin of cheek was evaluated at 1, 4, 12 weeks. The numbers of cells grown on the acellular tracheae and PGA film were counted at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 days. At 1, 3, 5, 7 days, the mean values of metabolic activity test and the amylase activities of supernatants of the cells/scaffold complexes were examined.RESULTS: The cells were completely removed from both tracheae. No evident inflammatory response was found in tissues around two kinds of acellular tracheae implanted under the skin of cheek. The number of submandibular gland cells (SSG) grown on the two kinds of naturally derived biomaterials was much more than grown on PGA (P<0.05). The mean values of metabolic activity test and the amylase activities of supernatants containing cell/acellular matrixes were much higher than that of cell/PGA (P<0.05).CONCLUSION: The acelhilar tracheae matrixes made by our laboratory can be used as scaffold in the study of tissue engineering artificial salivary gland organoid.

Objective To study the potential of functional MRI (fMRI) during passive finger extension (FE) for predicting the motor function recovery of hemiplegic stroke survivors.Methods Nineteen survivors of a 1st cerebral infarction in the non-M1 cortex with complete paralysis on one side were selected for study.Within 1 week after the stroke,fMRI was performed while one of the patient's paralyzed fingers was passively flexed and extended.fMRI signals were acquired from the sensorimotor cortex (SMC),the supplementary motor area (SMA) and the premotor area (PM).Fugl-Meyer (FM) scores of arm motor function were recorded one week,one month and three months after the stroke.Results The early fMRI results were used to classify cortex activation performances as type Ⅰ (activation mainly on the affected side,but SMC and SMA activated bilaterally),type Ⅱ (activation of the SMC and SMA only on the affected side) or type Ⅲ (only activation of the SMC on the affected side).At one week after stroke the average FM scores of the three groups were not significantly different.At one month the three average FM scores were 47.1 ± 5.5 points,36 ±6.7 points and 11.2 ± 3.1 points,for groups Ⅰ,Ⅱ and Ⅲ respectively,each significantly different from the others.At three months the average FM ratings of groups Ⅰ (61.1 ± 3.8 points) and Ⅱ (59 ± 5.2 points) were not significantly different,but both were significantly higher than the average score of group Ⅲ (10.8 ± 5.6 points).Conclusion The early stage fMRI characteristics of hemiplegic patients can be used for predicting motor outcomes.

AIM: To study the effect of SCUBE2 on epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in colorectal cancer cells and its mechanism .METHODS:The expression of SCUBE2 in human colorectal cancer cell line HCT 116 and normal colonic cell line FHC was detected by real-time PCR and Western blot .HCT116 cells were transfected with GV144-SCUBE2 to over-express SCUBE2, and then the cell viability, migration, and apoptosis were determined by MTT assay , Transwell assay and flow cytometry, respectively.The expression of EMT markers (E-cadherin, vimentin, and Snail),β-catenin, c-Myc and cyclin D1 in the HCT116 cells was analyzed by real-time PCR or Western blot after transfection with GV144-SCUBE2 for 6 h, followed by the stimulation of 10 μg/L recombinant TGF-β1 protein for 48 h.Additionally, the EMT process of HCT116 cells, which were stimulated by TGF-β1, over-expressed SCUBE2, and treated with Wnt/β-cate-nin pathway activator lithium chloride ( LiCl) or inhibitor XAV93920, was analyzed by Western blot .RESULTS: Com-pared with FHC cells , the expression of SCUBE 2 in the HCT116 cells was significantly decreased .The viability and migra-tion ability of the HCT116 cells were suppressed by SCUBE2 over-expression, but the apoptosis was not markedly changed . Elevated expression of SCUBE2 increased E-cadherin expression, and decreased the expression of vimentin, Snail,β-cate-nin, c-Myc and cyclin D1 induced by TGF-β1.Treatment with LiCl blocked but treatment with XAV 93920 enhanced the effects of SCUBE2 on EMT.CONCLUSION:Over-expression of SCUBE2 may inhibit the cell growth and migration , and suppress EMT through Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway .
