Objective To study the mechanism by which a high-intensity pulsed electromagnetic field (HIPEMF) (0.1 Hz,4 T,8 pulses) facilitates the proliferation of neural stem cells by detecting the expression of β-catenin genes and protein. Methods Neural stem cells (NSCs) were isolated from the sub-ventricular zone (SVZ) of neonatal rats and cultured in supplemented,serum-free medium for two weeks. The NSCs were then divided into an experimental group exposed to a HIPEMF for 8 pulses and a control group given sham stimulation. The gene and prorein expression of β-catenin in the NSCs were assayed by RT-PCR and Western blotting on the 1st,3rd,5th and 7th day after the stimulation. Results The NSCs' cloned spheres were round and translucent, and showed red fluorescence after staining with anti-nestin (cy3).The RT-PCR results showed β-catenin genes were highly expressed in the exposed group (significantly more than in the controls). The Western blotting showed that expression of β-catenin protein was also higher in the experimental group, especially at the 7th day after stimulation,a difference which was also statistically significant Conclusion HIPEMF at 0.1 Hz,4 T,in 8 pulse trains can promote NSC proliferation, perhaps through the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways.

HPS1-D, an active polysaccharide, was isolated and purified from Hedysarum polybotrys. HPS1-D was obtained after treated with Savage method and H2O2, and purified with DEAE-cellulose 52 and Sephadex G-100 gel filtration chromatography. Then physicochemical property analysis, GC, methylation, partial acid hydrolysis, and NMR method were used to study chemical structural of HPS1-D. The conformation was primarily analyzed with GPC-MALLS method and Congo red reaction. The anti-complementary activity of HPS1-D was evaluated with the hemolysis assay. HPS1-D was a heteropolysaccharide and consisted of D-glucose, L-arabinose, (7.2:1.3). HPS1-D proved to be a neutral sugar, with 1, 4-and 1, 4, 6-alpha-D-glucopyranosyl residues in backbone ,and 1, 5-and 1, 3, 5-alpha-L-arabinofuranosyl residues in branches. HPS1-D has a random coil state conformation with monodisperse mass distribution in 0.9% NaCl solution. And HPS1-D had triple-helix conformation in concentrate of NaOH solution. Anti-complementary activity of HPS1-D was closed to its positive control heparin.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2014;39(14):2629-2634
Anatomical features of the lamina and petiole of 11 species of Salvia had been compared. The microstructures of 11 species of Salvia were observed by paraffin method, and indexes such as the epidermis, xylems and phloems were measured. The data set was analyzed by principal components analysis method and cluster analysis method. The results indicated that the laminae of 11 species of Salvia were bifacial leaf, and the surface of laminae and petioles were covered with villous. The upper epidermis and lower epidermis of the laminae of 11 species of Salvia were constituted by a dense cuticular layer without stratum corneum. Differences existed in the structure of cross sectio mn of laminae and petioles of 11 species of Salvia. Among them, upper epidermal thickness of nine different micromorphological characters could serve as one of the criteria to identify species of taxonomic Salvia. The identification of genetic relationship of these characters in Salvia were discussed in the paper to provide an evidence of anatomy in Salvia.

Objective To investigate the relationship between MRI rating of white matter hyperintensities (WMH) within cholinergic pathway and vascular dementia in Binswanger's disease. Methods 41 patients with Binswanger's disease undergone inspection of MRI. On 4 selected axial images, the severity of WMH in the cholinergic pathways was rated on a 3-point scale for ten regions identified with major anatomical landmarks. The cholinergic pathways hyperintensities scale (CHIPS) were developed by Bocti based immunohistochemical tracings of the cholinergic pathways. Subjects underwent neuropsychological testing with the Mattis Dementia Rating Scale (DRS) to assess cognitive domains of interest (attention, episodic memory, executive functions). Spearman correlation coefficients were used to compute association between CHIPS score and DRS score. Results The total score of DRS, the scores of DRS attention subscale and memory subscale were 105.6±18.2, 29.5±4.2 and 11.3±3.2 respectively. The score of CHIPS was 35.6±13.7. After accounting for age and education in a multiple linear regression model, the CHIP ratings were associated with impaired performance on the DRS ( r=-0.43, P<0.05).Conclusion The MRI rating of WMH within cholinergic pathway has strong correlations with cognitive performance in patients with Binswanger's disease.

Objective To explore the change of sexual life quality and its influencing factors of premenopausal breast cancer patients. Methods 94 premenopausal breast cancer patients were included. Changes in Sexual Functioning Questionnaire short-form (CSFQ-14) was used and part of its items was changed. Their sexual life was evaluated before and after treatment by using depth interview and anonymous methods. Results 94 cases received face-to-face communication and study. 88 (93.6%) questionnaires were received, in which 81 (92.1%) questionnaires were effective. Their sexual life quality and sexual satisfaction significantly decreased and there was significant difference in the CSFQ-14 score (P<0.001) before and after treatment. The ratio of bad, worse, and worst sexual life were 39.5%, 29.6%, and 14.8% respectively after treatment. 65.4% of the patients had no sexual activity. The reasons included medical related factors, fear of cancer metastasis and recurrence, physical discomfort, poorer body image, partner sexual attitudes changed, life stress, common psychological problems,
traditional ideas and so on. Conclusion Sexual dysfunction was obvious and sexual life quality significantly decreased in premenopausal breast cancer patients after treatment. Patients' physical and mental damage, the change of body image and spouse's attitude are significant influencing factors. It is necessary to give sexual rehabilitation guidance to patients and their spouses.

In this paper, based on the special influence of supramolecular chemistry on the basic theory of Chinese medicines ( CM) , the authors further analyzed the history of meridian tropism and natural origins of CM organisms and explained CM ingredients and the universal regularity of the automatic action of the supramolecular "imprinting templates" hole channel structure. After entering human bodies, CMs, as the aggregation of supramolecular "imprinting templates" , automatically seek supramolecular subjects that are matched with their "imprinting templates" in human meridians and organs for the purpose of self-recognition, self-organization, self-assembly and self-replication, so as to generate specific efficacy in meridians and organs, which is reflected as the meridian tropism phenomena at macro level. This regularity can be studied by in vitro and in vivo experimental studies. In vitro methods are mostly supra molecular structure analysis and kinetic and thermodynamic parameter calculation; Whereas in vivo methods are dominated by the analysis on object component distribution, chromatopharmacodynamic parameters and network chromatopharmacodynamic parameters; Particularly, the acupoint-medicine method can simplify to study the supramolecular subject-object relations. Consequently, CM's'meridian tropism reveals the universal regularity for interactions of macromolecular and micromolecular "imprinting templates" of subjects and objects in natural organisms. As the first barrier for the material base of the CM theory and breakthrough in the modernization of the basic CM theory, meridian tropism plays an important role in studies on basic theories of the basic CM theory.
