Objective To investigate the effects of combined neural stem cells(NSCs) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) on NOS-positive neurons of basal forebrain of rats with Alzheimer disease(AD). Methods Adult SD rats with left fimbria-fornix(FF) transection received neural stem cells transplanted in the basal forebrain.Then BDNF was continuous injected into lateral ventricle.After 4 weeks,morphologic data and percentages of NOS-positive neurons were measured in basal forebrain by using histochemical method combined with technique of micromeasure and image analysis. Objective To study the level of serum gangliosides ( GM1 and GM3) in patients with gastric cancer and its clinical significance. Methods The ELISA (Enzyme-linked Immunosorbnent Assay, ELISA) method was used to detect GM1 and GM3 content in 40 patients with gastric cancer, and healthy controls. The results were analyzed with statistic software. Results The levels of serum GLS of gastric cancer group were significantly higher than that in healthy group and those in healthy subjects [(815.53±75.56)ng/ml vs (88. 88±32. 73)ng/ml;(765. 92 ±61.09)ng/ml vs (28.03±9.64) ng/ml, P <0.01 ] , patients with gastric cancer after chemotherapy and surgery group, and serum GLS was different between the healthy group and those in healthy subjects, patients with liver cancer after chemotherapy and surgery group. There was positive correlation between GM1 and GM3( r =0. 24, P <0.05).Conclusion Serum GLS of the patients with gastric cancer increased remarkably. Combined detection of serum gangliosides content in gastric cancer will be helpful to diagnosis of gastric cancer,disease progress prediction,and relapse prediction of this disease.

?AIM: To investigate the corneal high order aberrations in adults with myopia and to study its correlations with myopic degree and keratometry.?METHODS: A total of 63 patients ( 126 eyes ) from the ophthalmology department of our hospital were included in this study during May 2014 to June 2015. Visual acuity, intraocular pressure ( IOP ) , diopter, slit lamp examination, central corneal thickness ( CCT ) , funduscopic examination, corneal topography and corneal total higher order aberrations ( THOAs ) were recorded. Right eye was selected. According to the spherical equivalence ( SE) , 63 eyes were divided into two groups, the mild to moderate myopia group (M-M group, SE<-6. 00D) and the high myopia group (H group, SE≥-6. 00D). The correlations of corneal THOAs with diopter, keratometry, IOP and CCT were analyzed. Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test was used for normality test. Independent-samples t test was used for comparison between two groups. Pearson correlation analysis was for comparison between two continuous variables.?RESULTS: Z44 was found a statistic difference between the M-M group and H group (t=2. 51,P=0. 02). IOP was negatively correlated with Z5-3(r= -0. 52,P=0. 01), and CCT was positively correlated with Z4-4(r=0. 43,P=0. 03) in H group. There was no correlation between higher order aberrations and SE in M-M group ( all P>0. 05 ) Total coma aberration ( TCA ) was negatively correlated with SE (r=-0. 57,P=0. 002) and spherical degree (Sph, r=-0. 55,P=0. 003) in H group. Z40 was positively correlated with average K (AK) (M-M group:r=0. 40,P=0. 02. H group:r=0. 55, P=0. 03), K steep (Ks) (M-M group:r=0.39, P=0.02. H group:r=0.51, P=0.01) and K flat (Kf) ( M-M group:r=0. 40, P=0. 02. H group:r=0. 57, P=0. 01) in both groups. Z53was negatively correlated with Ks(r=-0.4, P=0. 04) in H group.?CONCLUSION: The THOAs parameters are influenced by diopter and keratometry. TCA is negatively correlated with SE and Sph in patients with high myopia, and spherical aberration is positively correlated with keratometry.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the changes of parathyroid hormone (PTH) and serum calcium alter total thyroidectomy and summarize the methods to prevent and treat the hypoparathyroidism and hypocalcernia. METHOD: Seventy-three patients with total thyroidectomy in our hospital were divided into three groups according to the scope of the operation. The serum concentrations of PTH and calcium were measured and compared before surgery and after surgery 1 h, 1 d, 3 d and 5 d. RESULT: In three groups, the serum concentrations of PTH and calcium were significantly decreased (P<0. 05) after surgery and low serum PTH and hypocalcemia occured. The severity of low serum PTH and hypocalcemia was as follows: total thyroidectomy with bilateral compartment lymph node dissection (CLND)>total thyroidectomy with unilateral CLND>total thyroidectomy. The differences were statistically significant. The levels of PTH after surgery 1 hour and 1 day were effective to predict hypocalcemia. CONCLUSION Total thyroidectomy can affect the parathyroid function. The greater the scope of surgery, the higher the possibility of postoperative hypoparathyroidism. The reasonable operative procedures and more protection of parathyroid during operation can reduce the incidence of hypoparathyroidism. The level of postoperative PTH can be used as a predictive index of hypocalcemia.

Falling in the elderly is a major health problem and may cause severe consequences. Fall risk assessment is important for preventing and intervening fall incidence. Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) has been introduced to evaluate motion/balance function and fall risk among the older people. Some researches indicated that it might have advantages over the usual tools, and can be used in the hospitals, communities, nursing homes, etc. IMU is a good way to measure gait variability, which may be strongly related with the risk of falls.

Objective To conform the risk factors of childhood asthma and to provide accordance for the healthy management of children with asthma.Methods A cross-section investigation was carried out by multi-stage random sampling in Wuhan city.The investigation included questionnaire and clinic examination.The study population was the infant and children whose age were 0 to 14 years old,and the sample size was 4 132.One hundren and seventyfour children were diagnosed as asthma,and 173 non-asthma children with similar age in the same region were selected as controls.Chi-square test and multiple Logistic regression analysis were used to screen the risk factors of childhood asthma in Wuhan city.Results Family allergy history,allergic rhinitis,eczema,food allergy and drug allergy were the risk factors of childhood asthma.Furthermore,dust mites,mould,anther dust,mugwort,cat/dog hair were main allergize source.In addition,premature delivery,abdominal delivery,mildew stain in ceiling or floor,raise pets especially cat,chemical fiber pillow and blanket bedclothes will increase the incidence,while spontaneous delivery and breast feeding were with protection effect.The results of multiple Logistic regression analysis showed that children who were with allergic rhinitis,familiar allergic history,dust mites positive test,drug allergy and blanker bedclothes were the high risk group of childhood asthma.Conclusions Childhood asthma is high relative with atopy,and these children who are with allergic rhinitis,familiar allergic history and dust mites positive test should be strictly health management.Chemical fiber pillow,blanket bedclothes,raising pet cats and mould in ceiling and floor in atopy children family should be avoided.
