OBJECTIVETo investigate clinical curative effects of gluteal muscle contracture release combined with insertion of gluteus maximus tendo-chilles lengthening with Z-shaped in treating severe gluteal muscles contracture.
METHODSFrom 2006 May to 2011 May, 20 patients (35 sides) with severe gluteal muscle contracture were collected, including 12 males and 8 females, aged from 8 to 34 years old with an average of 13 years old; the courses of disease ranged from 3 to 21 years. All patients manifested abnormal gait at different degree, knees close together cannot squat, positive syndrome of Ober, positive test of alice leg. Gluteus contracture fascia release were performed firstly in operation, then insertion of tendo-chilles lengthening with Z-shaped were carried out. Preoperative and postoperative gait, and knee flexion hip extensor squat test, cross leg test, adduction and internal rotary activity of hip joint, stretch strength and motor ability after hip abduction were observed and compared.
RESULTSTwenty patients were followed up for 1 to 5 years. Gluteus maximus were released thoroughly, and snapping hip was disappeared, Ober syndrome were negative. There was significant differences in knee flexion hip extensor squat test, adduction and internal rotary activity of hip joint, stretch before and after operation (P<0.01). Gluteus muscle strength was protected, stretch strength and motor ability of hip joint were recovered well. Among them,31 cases got excellent results and 4 good.
CONCLUSIONFor severe gluteal muscles contracture, insertion of gluteus maximus tendo-chilles lengthening with Z-shaped performed after gluteus contracture fascia release could release gluteal muscle contracture to the greatest extent and obtain postoperative curative effect without resection of normal hip muscle fibers and destroy joint capsule.

Journal of Environment and Health 2000;17(6):359-361
Biochemical oxygen demand of 5 days (BOD 5) was a very important parameter of monitoring ofwater quality. The classical method presented some shortcomings, such as complexity, long period, requirementof high technology and not promptly reflecting the pollution levels of water body, so it was of no significance fortreatment of industrial waste water. In this paper, two rapid methods for determination of BODs, raising incubation temperature and correlative estimation method, were introduced and their advantages, such as short period and simplicity of operation were verified by experiments. Modification of classical method was of certain instructive significance for the practical application to treatment of industrial waste water and forecast of pollutionlevels of water body.

[ABSTRACT]OBJECTIVE To obser ve t he pathological changes of nasal mucosa in rats after instillation of 37℃ normal saline. METHODS Forty-eight qualified rats were given instillation of 37℃ nomal saline 30 times, once per minute. Another 2 qualified rats served as control. After instillation, in the 15, 30 minutes and 1st, 3rd, 7th, 14th, 42th, 28th day respectively, the nasal septum mucosa of 6 rats was observed by light and electron microscopy. The corresponding area of the mucosa of control group was also observed by light and electron microscope. RESULTS Under light microscope, the arrangement of cell was disordered in the 1st, 3rd, 7th days. But there is no damage of vascular gland structure. After 14 days, the disorder recovered. With electron microscope, edema of cells, expansion of perinuclear gap, disorder of cilia and microwilli was found in the 30 minutes, 1st, 3rd day. All these began recover in the 7th days, and completely restored in the 28th day. CONCLUSION 37℃ nomal saline drip can damage nasal mucosa, but the damage is light, which is characterized by disorder and shortage of cilia and microvilli, edema of the epithelial cells. And the damage can recover quickly. It began in the 30 minutes after instillation, reached its peak in the 3rd day. And the recovery began in the 7th day, and completed in the 28 day.

Objective To study the role of gastric mitochondrial DNA cytochrome C oxidases (COX) subunit Ⅱ gene and its expression in diabetic gastric motility dysfunction. Methods Seventy Wister rats were randomly divided into 2 groups: diabetic group (STZ 60mg/Kg intraperitonealy) and control group. The changes in expressions of COX protein were assayed by Westernblot. Mitochondrial DNA COX mRNA was assayed with reverse-transcriptional polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR). Cytochrome C oxidase activity was determined by ultraviolet spectrophotometer. Results Gastricelectric dysrythmia was more frequently delected in diabetic rats, and the COX activity in diabetic rats was 0.41?0.21/min, which was significantly lower than that in normal rats (0.78?0.37/min). The expression of gastrointestinal COX protein and COX gene in diabetic gastroparesis rats were markedly decreased compared with normal rats. Conclusion Cytochrome C oxidases activity was greatly reduced in diabetic rats. Diabetic gastroparesis was associated with down-regulation of the expression of gastrointestinal mtDNA encoding COX gene and protein. These changes might play a key role in pathogenesis of diabetic gastroparesis

Objective To investigate the relationship between mitochondrial membrane potential change and apoptosis of smooth muscle cells of the small intestine in diabetic rats. Methods Seventy Wistar rats were randomly divided into two groups: diabetic group(STZ60mg/kg intraperitonealy) and control group. The gastric empty time and intestinal transit were determined in diabetic rats 2 months after the reproduction of diabetes. Mitochondrial membrane potential in small intestinal smooth muscle cells was determined by the change in the intensity of labeling rhodamine 123 with lasor scanning confocal micrographs, and apoptosis index was assessed with the technique of terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated d-UTP nick end labeling(TUNEL) test and flow cytometry. The changes in expression of cytochrome C were determined by Western blotting. Results The mitochondrial membrane potential of small intestine smooth musele cells was significantly lowered in diabetic rats compared with normal rats. Apoptosis index in diabetic rats was significantly higher than that of normal as shown by TUNEL technic. Apoptosis rate in diabetic rats was 15%, and it was significantly higher than that of normal rat (P

Objective To study the change in cytosolic Ca 2+ in smooth muscle cells in gastric antrum of diabetic rat. Methods Rats were randomly divided into diabetic group and control group. Gastric empty time was determined 3 months after diabetes was reproduced in rats, the apoptosis rate of smooth muscle cells in the gastric antrum was assessed by flow cytometry, and the content of cytosolic Ca 2+ in smooth muscle cells was measured by laser scanning confocal microscopy. Results In diabetic rats, gastric emptying was significantly delayed. Compared the normal rats, the content of cytosolic Ca 2+ in smooth muscle cells from the antrum of diabetic rats was increased. The apoptosis rate of smooth muscle cells in the antrum of diabetic rats was 15%, and it was higher than that in normal rats. Conclusion With the increase in the content of cytosolic Ca 2+ in smooth muscle cells, smooth muscles were damaged and therefore their contraction was also impaired.
